5.0 out of 5 stars Chick-lit You Can Sink Your Teeth Into
Pick up a paperback copy of "Kiss Chase", and you're likely to be surprised by the weightiness of it. The book is 808 pages long, printed in fairly small type - definitely not chick-lit in its usual form.

It took me a while to get into "Kiss Chase". The book starts off with so many characters and interlocking stories that it's hard to keep track of them all...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'd buy this used, if you must buy it.
I've read four of Fiona Walker's novels and truly liked three (French Relations, Well Groomed, and Snap Happy). To be honest, I had a very hard time slogging through Kiss Chase. The basic premise is just too, too far fetched and I really doubt that anyone would actually act this way. I will admit that Walker redeems herself in the last 50 pages - too bad she couldn't...

5.0 out of 5 stars Chick-lit You Can Sink Your Teeth Into, March 15, 2005
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Mass Market Paperback)
Pick up a paperback copy of "Kiss Chase", and you're likely to be surprised by the weightiness of it. The book is 808 pages long, printed in fairly small type - definitely not chick-lit in its usual form.

It took me a while to get into "Kiss Chase". The book starts off with so many characters and interlocking stories that it's hard to keep track of them all. Characters are constantly moving back and forth from London to the English countryside to Paris to America, and the narrative skips around between people and places without offering any buffer zone. However, after about the first 100 pages everything starts to click into place, and the plot gets much easier to follow. This is the point at which everything falls into place, and the main plot takes off.

Saskia Seaton, a once beautiful actress, is in shambles. Her fiancé, Felix Sylvian, dumped her in a terribly cruel way, and she's been a wreck ever since - going so far as to try to kill herself. Saskia's discovered that he's done the same thing to other women, and she vows to get revenge. She begs her friend Phoebe to help her give Felix a dose of his own medicine - make Felix fall in love with her, and then dump him in the cruel way that he dumped Saskia. After some coercion, Phoebe agrees, but of course things don't work out exactly as planned.

The book isn't perfect - Felix has done some horrible things to women that made it hard for me to like him at first, and Phoebe was having an affair with a married man, which made me dislike her (there is a lot of adultery in the book, so be warned if that is something that bothers you). But ultimately Phoebe and Felix are so wonderful together that you can't help falling in love with them and hoping that they will be able to get past everything that's in their way. The cast of supporting characters is mostly very likeable, and the unlikable characters are that way for a reason.

If you're willing to slog through some of the more difficult parts of this book, you'll find yourself with a very enjoyable read.

It was my mother who first gave me a Fiona walker noel only a few weeks ago and since then I have read all of them, "Snap Happy", "French Relations", "Well Groomed" and "Kiss Chase". I can't wait for the next book to come out. Does anyone know of a contact address for Fiona Walker? I would definately recommend all of her books to all those who love a good romantic comedy

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Cheers for Fiona Walker, April 19, 2000

This review is from: Kiss Chase (Hardcover)
This girl can write. Her books are WONDERFUL. Funny, charming and so easy to fall in love with. You won't be sorry. She's a little bit hard to find (check out Amazon.com/UK) but, so worth the time and effort. She's wonderfully creative and seems to capture a romantic comedy perfectly. Great books. All of them...and, I can't wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, January 23, 2003
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Hardcover)
This book is way up there with French Relations and Well Groomed being Fiona Walker at her best.

Its a big thick read (as usual). Not long winded and very readable. Sort of chaotic romatic commedy. I liked most of the characters and I like the writing style.

Will Phoebe end up with Felix?(who has a history of breaking hearts) or will she break his heart (on behalf of an old friend as part of a revenge plot), sounds mad but its great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!, August 16, 2000
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Hardcover)
This book has to be my all time favourite! Its got everything- a plot that grabs you from the first page and doesn't let you go till the last, a bewitching sharp humour that makes the whole thing a joy to read and most of all characters who are so real it is a tragic surprise to find when closing the book they are not in fact your close friends. Magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best feel-good books ever, September 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Hardcover)
I picked up "Snap Happy" one day because I had run out of things to read and it was the only book at the time that looked decent. I simply couldn't put it down, so when I finished I bought all of Fiona Walker's books on Amazon.com. I think "Kiss Chase" is definitely my favourite, mainly because it satisfies the old "Hell hath no fury" idea, yet manages to leave you with such an incredible feeling of gooey happiness at the end. Freddy is an incredible woman and Felix - well you can't help falling in love with him, even though you want him to pay for what he did.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Awe..Best Book I've Read In a Really Long Time, January 30, 2012
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Mass Market Paperback)
I read a lot. Lately I've been reading just to pass time and haven't really been getting into my books. Kiss Chase changed all that.

I was hesitant to read this book at first because of the cheesy title and the adultery but I'm so glad I did. How could such imperfect characters be so perfect?

Phoebe is the most fantastic heroine I've read about in a long time. Attractive in a quirky ways but has her good and bad days, never perfect. Not a genius or particularly successful but her love and loyalty, her humor and intelligence and her bravery all make success seem paltry in comparison. I was disappointed in how she let Staskia treat her though I think the author tried to delve into the mechanisms of bullying relationships tinged with rivalry and insecurity.

As for Staskia, I hated her. I was not convinced by her redemption but the book was so fantastic that I just kind of ignored it. The things she did were just terrible.

And last but not least, Felix. He is a real bad boy and not one of those beautiful, confident, successful jerks who immediately turn good after meeting the heroine. He was screwed up and it showed. His childhood and lack of real and meaningful relationships outside of one dorky friend crippled him emotionally. He does treat Phoebe badly at one point but she doesn't take his crap and I love that. I loved him despite or more likely because of all his faults and him and phoebe had off the charts chemistry (although I do wish there had been more detailed love scenes, *wink, wink*).

Pheobe's adultery is off-putting though I think she really did love Dan before he hurt her and he did pursue her relentlessly. But I did love Phoebe and her character is so well written that she came across more as a good person in a bad situation than a homewrecker, scarlet woman etc. I wish Dan had gotten his comeuppance though.

All in all, anyone interested in romance, fiction, complex characters and relationships should READ THIS BOOK.

I'm sorry this review isn't very well structured or detailed but I'm in a rush and just needed to purge after that emotional roller coaster.

Happy Reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars The latest great read from Fiona Walker, October 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Hardcover)
After finishing Kiss Chase I have now read all four of the novels published by Fiona Walker and enjoyed every single one. I stumbled over her first novel while on holiday when I wanted a good relaxing read and annoyed all my family by refusing to put it down until I finished and then going out to buy two others in the shop. The novels are fun but very very human. Anyone who can have characters who run out of clean laundry, get all brave when they have had too much to drink or makes wrong choices over partners gets my vote. Can't wait for the next Fiona Walker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Kiss Chase (Hardcover)
I loved this book, and as with Fiona Walkers other books, i didn't want it to end. Phoebe was an unbelievable character, no one else could have got away with nightclubbing in a candlewick bedspread and a sports bra, and when she gave Felix his cricket jumper back i was in stitches. Brilliant!! I'd read it again if I could prise it away from my flat mates. I can't wait for her next book 'Between Males' in November.
