3.0 out of 5 stars Kiss of Deceit
Jillian Gallego has just been murdered, and LeAnne McVeigh, the detective on the case, is sure that the victim's husband, Marcus, or Snake, is the murderer. After she arrests him, she starts to doubt her conclusion and is shortly proven wrong when the woman he slept with that night comes forward to provide him with an airtight alibi. LeAnne is in a race against time...

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense at its best!, April 14, 2003
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (Paperback)
In the small quiet town of Henry County, Ohio, a young woman is found strangled, her pale and beautiful body tied to the bed. All evidence leads the police to believe the victim's husband, Marcus "Snake" Gallego, to be the killer.

Homicide detective LeAnne McVeigh arrests Snake, though his claim of innocence, as well as his demonic good looks, somehow weakens her determination.

Her theories prove wrong when, suddenly, another young woman is murdered in the same gruesome way. Snake is soon released, and LeAnne finds herself with the dreadful task of hunting down a serial killer on the loose.

In spite of her engagement to County Prosecutor Chad Baker, LeAnne is more than ever powerfully and dangerously attracted to Snake, the feeling heightened by her guilt for having been responsible for his unjust incarceration.

As the mystery evolves and reaches its climax, suspects are interrogated, more innocent women are murdered, and Snake joins LeAnne in trying to find the killer. But his proximity proves disastrous... In fact, being with Snake proves almost deadly.

Queen of suspense Patricia A. Rasey has another winner here. With seemingly effortless skill, this author has created an original, keenly suspenseful and deeply entertaining thriller that will make your heart skip and your pulse race to dangerous levels. Superb characterization, razor-sharp dialogue, and an excellent knowledge of police procedurals are only some of the fine qualities which make this a first-rate novel. The beginning will hook you. The middle will enslave your hands to the pages. The climax will leave you breathless. Definitely five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended, February 3, 2001
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (CD-ROM)
KISS OF DECEIT, another racy romantic thriller by Pat Rasey, will keep the heart pounding, the blood boiling, and the most hardened of readers entertained. Combining extremely sexual and sensual moments with the pursuit of a ruthless killer whose parting kiss means murder, this novel is a must read.

Erotic asphyxiation -- the cutting off of airways during sexual play -- leads to murder. The vicious game of power and control becomes a murder weapon in Henry County, and now it's up to homicide detective LeAnne McVeigh to find the killer. The murderer begins with stripper Jillian, but soon targets the wife of a prominent doctor, with apparently nothing in common between the victims -- and no clues at the crime scene except a motive to punish the adulterous.

The death of Jillian brings her grieving biker husband Snake into Leanne's sedate, peaceful, private world. LeAnne is ill-prepared to deal with her overwhelming attraction to this extraordinary man. Cops and bikers just don't have relations hips, but neither of them can fight the powerful heat. Unfortunately, LeAnne's fiance Chad Baker, Henry County's prosecutor, may have something to say about his soon-to-be bride's interest in a biker.

KISS OF DECEIT takes a unique walk on the wild side, exploring the world of bike rs and deceit. Combining political intrigue, murder, and raw sexual power, KISS OF DECEIT will certainly satisfy fans who already loved Pat's first novel, DEADLY OBSESSION.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kiss Of Deceit Review, January 10, 2001
By
Janice Wagner (Calgary, Alberta CANADA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (CD-ROM)
Someone is playing judge, jury and executioner with the attractive yet so very unfaithful women of Henry County. Just when Homicide Detective LeAnne McVeigh thinks she's solved the crime of murder with the arrest of Marcus 'Snake' Gallego, husband of the first victim, another death happens.

Soon LeAnne is caught in a web of lies, deception, a stack of dead bodies, pressure from the department and the community to solve the case, a growing attraction to the ever so sexy Snake and her own doubts about her engagement to Henry County prosecutor Chad Baker.

Patricia Rasey delves into the dark side of sex in KISS OF DECEIT. Erotic asphyxiation and bondage play a key role in the killer's make up. The characters are complex, true to life and push the story along at a face pace that leaves you breathless yet wanting more. Just when you think you have figured out who the killer is, you are thrown into another direction altogether. The suspense and romance of it all keeps you mesmerized to the very last page. Patricia takes you on a thrilling and romantic ride of a lifetime as her verve and talent as a story teller captivates, in this up-all-night, detail packed read.

Without a doubt Patricia Rasey proves in Kiss of Deceit that she is an author to be reckoned with as she makes a name for herself in the suspense field. I impatiently anticipate the sequel to this book, as well as other fine works from this best selling author. This book is definitely a five star read........

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, a definite must read, April 4, 2000
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (CD-ROM)
Marcus 'Snake' Gallego is accused of killing his beautiful, but unfaithful wife Jillian. All evidence points straight to him. Naturally he claims he is innocent, but who is going to believe a Harley riding biker with no alibli? Especially since there are witnesses that heard him threatening to strangle his wife that same day.

LeAnne McVeigh, Homicide Detective for Henry County, is positive that she has arrested the right man for the murder. That is, until she hears what he has to say and takes a really good look at him. Now, against all odds, strong doubts are entering her mind. Did she really arrest the right person for this crime? Or did she give into the pressure of getting this case solved and overlook something?

Suddenly, another woman is found strangled to death. And although this murder is different from the first, she is convinced it is the same killer. This time though, it couldn't have been Snake, he was sitting in jail when it happened. Suddenly without warning, LeAnne finds her life turned upside down. She is doubting her abilities as a Homicide Detective, having major problems with her fiance, who is the county's prosecutor, and if that isn't enough, she also finds herself attracted to Snake, who is definitely from the wrong side of town. As LeAnne struggles to keep herself together and solve the two murders, more bodies start turning up and she begins receiving death threats.

KISS OF DECEIT keeps you spell-bound right to the very end. Patricia Rasey has done a masterful job at concealing the identitiy of the killer until she is ready to bring all the pieces together. She gives you a handfull of suspects to think about, any one of which could be the murderer, but she gives you nothing that will reveal the true identity of the killer. This is definitely a book that a person will want to read over and over, to see if possibly there might be a clue in there that they might have missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unlikely hero and heroine make for sizzling tension, April 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (CD-ROM)
What do you get when you mix an attractive female detective with a Harley-riding biker accused of his ex-wife's murder? A sizzling tale of heart-pounding suspense and romance, that's what. After all, who would have thought a tattooed rebel nicknamed "Snake" would become not only a likeable and sympathetic character but a commendable leading man? Not me, that's for certain, but believe it or not, Patricia A. Rasey pulled it off...in spades. The murder mystery brims with suspense from chapter to chapter and, along the way, the love between Snake and LeAnne gradually develops, making the second offering from this talented author a totally enjoyable read. I'm just praying for a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars terse thriller, August 11, 2003
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (Paperback)
Marcus "Snake" Gallego accompanied by Egan "Villain" Tate and Ginny Summers returns to Henry County, Ohio to try to keep the woman safe from her biker friends. If the California based Lord's Chief Randy Craig learns where Ginny is he will kill her and probably former member Villain too as no one quits the gang.

Someone kills Ginny in the same manner, tied to a bedpost, in which Snake's wife was murdered two years ago. Homicide detective LeAnne McVeigh investigates the murder that brings her former lover Marcus back into her life. Though she loves Marcus, LeAnne is angry with him for deserting her without a look back. Serving as temporary coroner, Doctor Whitney Montgomery also works the case, but finds an attraction with the aptly named Villain. While LeAnne and Whitney wonder if the one each of them loves is the killer, the Lords are coming to town. Randy does not mind running over the innocent if it enables him to get to Egan, who knows that his beloved doctor is such a target.

EYES OF BETRAYAL, the sequel to the taut KISS OF DECEIT, returns two strong characters from the first novel. The story line starts at a dark rapid speed and never slows down until the climax. Readers will wonder who killed Snake's wife and Ginny, whether the biker gang will murder townsfolk including the two women, and will either or both couples stay together if they survive. Fans of terse thrillers will want to read this one, the previous one, and what one phone call from the grave sets up the next Patricia Rasey's chiller.

4.0 out of 5 stars tremendous police procedural, November 14, 2002
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (Paperback)
In Ohio homicide detective LeAnne McVeigh brings in for questioning Marcus "Snake" Gallego biker husband to the first female victim Jillian, dead of erotic asphyxiation. However, soon other women soon follow with the only connections between them apparently being that they cheated on their husbands and that the serial killer relishes his deadly power trip.

LeAnne continues to investigate Snake and his cronies, but is shocked how enticing the big biker is though she is engaged to prosecutor Chad Baker. Other suspects surface, but the killings continue placing Henry County under the terrorizing grip of a dangerous serial killer. LeAnne thinks Snake is innocent and actually a good person hiding inside his biker garb but Chad has no doubts he is the culprit. His fiancee wonders is that unprofessional jealousy talking?

KISS OF DECEIT is a tremendous police procedural with enough romance that will entice romantic suspense readers too. The story line moves faster than Snake's Harley can go, but insures that he and LeAnne come across as real people. On the surface the lead protagonists seem opposite one another as he lives for the day in his grassroots lifestyle while she looks to the future yet both have deep senses of loyalty and duty. There are plenty of suspects with motives provided for each one. No deceit, this is a winner for those fans who enjoy a taut mystery with plenty of racy tension. Strongly recommend also reading Patricia A. Rasey's backlist to include FAÇADE, DEADLY OBSESSION and THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN as this reviewer intends to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kiss Of Deceit, January 20, 2012

Ladies, if you are looking for a great romance mixed a great murder mystery, you can't beat this author.

I'm a fan of many: Linda Howard, Sandra Brown, Nicole Jordan, Kat Martin...

Patricia doesn't only write a sexy love story, but she will keep you anxiously trying to figure out who did it - and I bet she'll surprise you in the end. Besides that, she's then going to have you anxiously waiting for a sequel - she has the most wonderful way of ending her books... see if you don't believe me.

Patricia has got to be one of the best authors I've read. Now that I've found her, she can't possibly write fast enough for me :)

Give her a try and see if you agree with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, fast-paced Romantic Suspense!, December 6, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kiss of Deceit (Paperback)
The story focuses on the LeAnne McVeigh's hunt for the killer of Jillian. Jillian's husband, Marcus "Snake" Gallego is the first and most logical suspect. But things start happening fast and furious, clearing Snake of the murder, but leaving the cops with more dead women and clues that lead toward a dangerous climax.

But there is more to this story-particularly in LeAnne's characterization. She is struggling on a personal level, with the murders, political pressure, her fiancée, her attraction to Snake, and most poignant of all-her own upbringing that makes her hauntingly vulnerable as a woman. A man like "Snake" riding his Harley straight into her well ordered life forces LeAnne to re-evaluate what looks good on paper and what is real.

If you like romantic thrillers with solid plotting and good characterization wrapped up in a sensual package, this is the book for you!
