Biography

Johannes Linstead, a master of the Latin-guitar, calls his latest album Tales of a Gypsy for several reasons. “I travel around the world sharing my music, and each of my compositions is like another tale to be told. I feel like I am following in the footsteps of the original gypsies who traveled wherever they wanted and spread ideas, culture and art as they went. I also think of planet ... Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Johannes Linstead is a Canadian-born guitarist with a European-sounding name who composes and performs music best described as Latin lite. Linstead, a native of Toronto, plays an easy-on-the-ear brand of flamenco music that will likely frustrate genre purists but will endear him to listeners who enjoy flamenco's sunnier side, minus its earthier traditions. Linstead's capable playing, backed by polite percussion and, occasionally, piano and wind instruments, is clean, colorful, and spirited, and his sense of melody, tinged by pop instincts (most evident on "Mezza Luna"), yields an easy-listening, feel-good atmosphere that never really lags from start to finish. Make no mistake, any listener searching for flamenco music brimming with bold ethnic flourishes is advised to look elsewhere. But for people in the mood for a friendly, melodic approach to flamenco played with style and respectable panache, Linstead's music makes a nice choice. --Terry Wood

5.0 out of 5 stars One of best instrumental CDs ever! September 24, 2002
Format:Audio CD
You must acquire this CD if you receive any enjoyment from Latino and/or guitar instrumental music. It is clearly one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars spine-tingling rhythm with his fiery fretwork! January 10, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I first heard "La Serpiente" on this CD on a Bose Demo CD player with Bose Headphones and was hooked!! Couldn't stop foot tapping and finger snapping-felt like a Mexican jumping bean! I was already a fan of Otmar Liebert's flamenco music but "Kiss the Earth" brought me one step further into music heaven!! Once you listen to his music, you'll want to buy all of his CD's!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this CD! January 9, 2005
Format:Audio CD
My first Nuevo Flamenco CD and it's AWESOME. Very upbeat and expressive. The CD is great to work to because it's soothing yet catchy. I caught my boss humming along with the CD while he was working...I own all of Johannes Linstead's CD's and still feel this is his best so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic Fire! December 20, 2000
By Mike
Format:Audio CD
My wife and I recently saw Johannes in concert and purchased Kiss The Earth after the show. The show was spectacular, with percussion, Flamenco and Latin dancing, and of course, Johannes' fiery guitar playing. We were pleased that that same energy and passion was present on the album as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD - BUT NOT HIS BEST September 22, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I would probably rate this CD much higher if I did not own his debut CD. I first discovered this artist by buying his debut CD "Sol, Luna, Tierra" after listening to it in a bookstore. I was so impressed with this style of music that I purchased at least one CD of practically all of the artists that play this type of music (Ottmar Liebert, Jesse Cook, Armik, Luis Villegas, Nova Menco, Lara & Reyes, Govi, Bendetti & Svoboda, etc.). Some of them are quite good, but Sol, Luna, Tierra still remains my favorite. Kiss the Earth is enjoyable to listen to, but it lacks the originality of Sol, Luna, Tierra. Each selection on that CD has its own unique style and character and they reach out and "grab" you. The selections on this CD seem to kind of fade together (with the exception of a few) and sound similar to other artists.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the best December 2, 2005
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Although it depends on my mood, I think Kiss The Earth is Linstead's finest collection. Having been introduced to his music only a few weeks ago, I now own five of his CDs and they all represent money more than well spent. No other artist in my life has earned my full appreciation so quickly. The many moods and accompanying instruments are so varied that the subtleties gain more appreciation with each playing. They just get better and better.

Easy listening at its inimitable best for the guitar fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! September 9, 2004
Format:Audio CD
This CD was playing in a small shop in Galveston, TX. I couldn't stop myself from tapping my foot to the beat! Now it's a staple in my car.

5.0 out of 5 stars El Maestro! January 7, 2001
Format:Audio CD
There are some musicians that can play one note and make it sing. Johannes' sense of melodicism is very emotive, ranging from sublime to passionate. Each song has a uniqueness which keeps the album intriguing. The track "Ritmo De Amor" really gets the blood pumping and makes you want to put on your salsa shoes! I'm looking forward to the next one!
