Product Description

For millennia, the shape-shifting dragon warriors known as the Pyr have commanded the four elements and guarded the earth’s treasures. But now the final reckoning between the Pyr, who count humans among the earth’s treasures, and the Slayers, who would eradicate both humans and the Pyr who protect them, is about to begin.

Haunted by dreams of a lover who takes the form of a dragon, Eileen Grosvenor searches for the truth. She never expects to find a real dragon shape shifter, let alone one who awakens her passion and ignites memories of a forgotten past.

Erik Sorensson is focused on leading the Pyr against the Slayers when a powerful ancient relic reveals itself. Erik tries to retrieve it from Eileen’s possession—and is shocked by a fury of passion. Her presence touches him in unexpected ways, reminding him of mistakes he’s determined not to make again, and Erik is forced to make a choice—duty or love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kiss of Fate- A Joyfully Recommended Title, May 9, 2009
Eileen Grosvenor woke up from a strange dream with wet hair and lily weeds in it. However Eileen is scared of the water and would never go swimming in a river or pond. This dream was even stranger as she seemed to know the man that reached out to her - one she has never seen before. Dreams put into the background, Eileen is running out of time on her project of tracking down the roots of a legend that she is trying to trace. One that tells of a maiden, a dragon and a doomed love.

Erik Sorensson is the leader of the Pyr dragons. On the new eclipse he meets with the Pyr to see who will be meeting their mate this time. Imagine his surprise when it's him and he recognizes something from his past in the woman pictured. Not sure he wants a second chance, Erik knows he can't ignore the firestorm but how it is fulfilled is the question.

Eileen and Erik come together over an ancient relic that both the Pyr and the Slayers want - for very different reasons. Danger follows them through the English countryside and further into the States. Erik needs to keep both Eileen and the relic safe from harm even at the risk of himself. Eileen knows she needs to save Erik and is ready to risk her heart in order to do so. When the final decisions and battles are raged can Erik and Eileen find the trust and love to finish on top?

After losing everything, can a Dragon really believe in a second chance? Kiss of Fate concerns the leader of the Pyr, Erik, and we learn his past and his future. Eileen has been having strange dreams, not only of a lover but also of a much loved baby son. Strange since she is divorced and has no children. Erik lost every loved one in his life long ago and never expected to be given another shot. At first I couldn't believe how cold Erik seemed on getting a mate. But as the story unfolded I learned that it was pure fear in hoping to believe all he wanted would not be lost again. Eileen had so much to overcome and I think the smallest part of that was learning that Erik could shift into a dragon. I watched and read as Eileen faced terror, fears, love and loss only to have more than that in gains by reaching out with her heart. At the same time Erik dealt with fear of hope and more loss, not to mention more powerful Slayers. When Eileen and Erik finally came together and reached out for their future it was perfect not to mention hot. No other words seem to describe it. I felt the love they captured and knew nothing would tear them apart and the Pyr would be stronger for it.

Kiss of Fate dramatically moves along the storyline while telling Erik and Eileen's love story. The deep emotions are felt from the first meeting until the last page. Ms. Cooke's latest Dragonfire book is one I have to Joyfully Recommend as one that you won't want to miss. I cannot wait until the next Dragonfire book.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice addition, May 23, 2009

Definitely enjoyable. In this addition, Eric, the leader of the dragon Pyr, is called to his firestorm. Stragely enough, Eric had already had a firestorm (they're only suppose to happen once in a life time) many years ago that ended badly. Not only did his wife die, but his son turned evil. Now he is given a second chance with his reincarnated wife from the past. She is different and stronger now, but Eric is still afraid of making the wrong choices.

The story centers more around Eric and Eileen's relationship. The dragon's teeth (which the dragons are fighting over) are a subplot to this story. Most of the time I would find this annoying because I like the action, but I think Cooke did a wonderful job on this one. The flashbacks to the past and the complex relationship between Eric, Eileen, and their son was touching. I especially liked the surprise ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - This series really does just keep getting better, March 27, 2009
I wasn't expecting to like Pyr leader Erik as a leading man as he inexplicably gets a second Firestorm which is the rare gift of mating heat in his Dragonshifting race - from the previous books I pictured him as the dedicated old guy (but then again since all of the dragonshifting Pyr have passed the century mark, I guess old is sort of relative). Fortunately Cooke thoroughly overcame my preconceptions. She did an excellent job of turning Erik into a leading man -- gave him a worthy and perceptive mate in his reincarnated wife Eileen and put obstacles in Erik's way which required him to grow as a character -- the result was Kiss of Fate is the best of the Dragonfire series so far.

One of the things that made Kiss of Fate even better than the previous Dragonfire books ( Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire, Book 1), Kiss of Fury (Dragonfire, Book 2)) was that there wasn't some artifice to keep the pair from succumbing to the Firestorm. Erik and Eileen both accepted that their attraction would be taken to its natural conclusion and the events that author Cooke used to delay the eventual consumation of the Firestorm to build the sensual tension between the pair seemed more natural this time around. Another plus was that Cooke didn't just rely on dream sequences to share Erik's painful past. Since Eileen was a collector of supernatural tales, Cooke used 'story telling' by her characters - quite effectively - to tell us of the tragedy of Eileen and Erik's past life together and to allow Erik to share the pieces of the past which were crippling him.

After reading Kiss of Fate I am on a 'series-high'. The third Dragonfire book was really enjoyable, I am hooked on these gorgeous Dragonshifting protectors and now I can hardly wait for things to heat up for Rafferty or Delaney and hope that their destined mates take them by 'storm' as we find out where the prophesy leads them next.
