Real jazz played by real artists, December 9, 2006
The working relationship between Harold Mabern and Eric Alexander has been long-running. Alexander features Mabern on his solo releases-- now the fiery pianist returns the favor on this Japanese import that is brimming with straight-ahead enthusiasm. Everyone is on top of their game-- particularly Alexander and his long-time stalwart Joe Farnsworth on drums. Listen to Dexter's "Cheesecake" and you instantly hear how Alexander's round, warm tone, attack and approach are highly influenced by LTD, the master. Not a bad mentor, indeed. The level of musical maturity on this album is extremely high and this recording is highly recommended.
