Book Description

July 29, 2003
Dark, Rich, and Beautiful

Nicole Summers Benoit is stunned. She has inherited the mega-profitable Summers Security firm from a late uncle she never liked. But she's a sister with brains as well as looks, and she's determined to prove she's got the goods to run a major company. First, though, she needs to convince vice-president Marcus Reed -- a man so fine he makes her knees weak, but with a chip on his shoulder as big as Mount Rushmore.

Marcus is proud to have worked his way out of the 'hood and up the corporate ladder -- and nothing riles him more than pampered Black-American Princesses. And now one's been handed the CEO position that was rightfully his! Nicole is one smart, sexy boss lady, however -- and soon he's working hard to create some serious heat with her after business hours rather than hoping to see her fail. But when a crime wave hits Summers Security and Marcus is targeted as the prime suspect, not only is the company's future in danger, but a hot new love could freeze up as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kiss Entertaining Hello, August 8, 2003

This review is from: Kiss Lonely Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
Nicole Summers Benoit is rich, beautiful, spoiled and carefree. Carefree, until she inherits Uncle Hosea Summers' security business. The last thing Nicole wants is to be tied down owning a business, but she gives it a try for the sake of the employees. Marcus Reed, is a long time employee of Summer's Security. He is a brother that knows his way around both the boardroom and the hood. He scratched, fought, and earned every opportunity he has received. Including a promise by the late Hosea Summers to make him the next CEO. Imagine Marcus' shock when he finds out Uncle Hosea double-crossed him. Couple Nicole's desire to show everyone she is capable of handling a business, with Marcus' desire to succeed and you have drama. Add a little sexual tension and you have the makings of an excellent plot.

I found this book to be a fun read. I enjoyed the antics of Nicole and I loved the no nonsense character of Marcus. Emery created just enough sexual tension without going overboard. She also did an excellent job of developing each character's personality. In addition, the events of the plot unfolded at a timely pace. If you find yourself bored and in need of something fun to read, I say Kiss Lonely Good-bye.

4.0 out of 5 stars engaging boardroom romance, August 4, 2003
This review is from: Kiss Lonely Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
In Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, family and a few employees attend the funeral of Hosea Summers, CEO of a security systems firm, a person, known for his caustic Don Rickles like personality. Whether he did this to keep his business afloat long after his death or as a final insult to his two adult children and his number two person Marcus Reed, he shockingly names his niece Nicole as chair of Summmers Security. The deceased's angry adult children, though they inherit a fortune, will protest the will. Because of their attitude and the belief by her father and other uncle that she is incapable of doing the job, Nicole reluctantly agrees to take charge.

Nicole moves to Houston where she meets doubt from the work force, opposition from the board, and animosity from her male cousin. She also finds herself attracted to Marcus who reciprocates the feeling as he finds her intelligent. However, someone is using the security systems to steal from clients, placing Nicole in trouble if she fails to uncover the identity of her adversary.

This engaging boardroom romance stars two delightful African-Americans and an eccentric support cast, whom readers will cherish. Though Nicole's successful move right into top management (with no supervisory experience) seems stretched; fans will enjoy her efforts as the CEO. Marcus is an intelligent hunk and though his street loyalty to a friend hurts the business and his relationship with the boss, fans will value highly his devotion to his pal and to Nicole though the dualism pulls him in different directions. Fans of contemporary tales will want to read Lynn Emery's fine tale.
