Book Description

July 2007
Note: This is NOT a book for single women on how to find a man; it is a guide for women who want to find their truest selves and celebrate them. As the author of the daily meditation book for teenage girls, Be True to Yourself, Amanda Ford's message of fierce individuality and even stronger identity has grown up with her audience. In her new book Kiss Me, I'm Single, Ford exhorts single women not to get lost in the pressure to be in a relationship (single women's mantra: Any relationship will do!) and not to lose themselves in a relationship. The bottom line is that the most important relationship they can have is with themselves.

True love is an inside job and begins with you. It is a basic fact of life that in order to be truly happy and fulfilled with another person, you must be truly happy and fulfilled on your own first. A good relationship can enhance life for sure, but it cannot take what is just "okay" and turn in into perfect. In Kiss Me, I'm Single Amanda Ford urges readers: "Get off your derrieres and get to work on yourself. Go inward and be relentless in your search. Discover what is in you that you must do in order to bring joy into your own life." Refreshingly honest, ruefully witty and wise, Ford has also dug deep down and done the work she recommends. From her soul-searching sojourn, Amanda Ford brings back news that will empower all young women: "Love has nothing to do with another person; it is a condition of your own heart."

"This book is a charming, poignant, witty, and wise take on singlehood. Reading it was like spending time with a close and cherished friend." --Bella DePaulo, author of Singled Out

5.0 out of 5 stars this book is a treasure, August 21, 2007

This review is from: Kiss Me, I'm Single: An Ode to the Solo Life (Paperback)
Kiss Me,I'm Single is for absolutely everyone who lives and breathes and longs for something more than the fairy-tale, miniscule and limited horizons we are led to believe are our due. Do not be fooled by the title which refers to being single, this book is a treasure awaiting discovery! Amanda Ford is brilliant. She asks all of the right question and she gives you answers without ever once telling you she knows or setting herself up as the authority. in the guise of a young person(could this author really be only 26??) and with fantastic wit she touches your heart. This book could be in the Philosophy secton or sitting next to the ageless wisdom of the seekers/masters.
Everyone, male, female, young and old, alone or in relationship, here, there, everywhere needs to read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kiss me, I love this book!, August 12, 2007

This review is from: Kiss Me, I'm Single: An Ode to the Solo Life (Paperback)
"Kiss Me, I'm Single" should be required reading for every woman, regardless of relationship status. Poignant lessons on embracing love in every form and being true to yourself ring from every page. The personal anecdotes and heartfelt stories make you feel like you're having a heart-to-heart with your best friend - a best friend who just happens to have timeless wit and wisdom. I read it cover-to-cover in one night and will be keeping it close at hand for future evenings when I want a smile, a pick-me-up, or just the heartwarming sense that, oh yeah, someone else has been through that. "Kiss Me" is a rare gem: an easy-to-read that's meant to be embraced and shared with friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for single women, for (even married) dudes too, July 26, 2007

Inswichlicuor (Stuttgart, Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kiss Me, I'm Single: An Ode to the Solo Life (Paperback)
Let me just say I am not a single woman, but rather a long-time married man. This book was recommended to me as I was going through a challenging period of my life and I must say it was marketed poorly, because this book is for ANYONE reexamining their lives!

Amanda has written a stunningly honest bit of philosophy and self-examination, one I think many people can gain a lot of affirmation and life strategies from.

Some highlights for me:
You have to love yourself before you can truly love someone else (so true for me, and something that's very much helped my relationship with my wife)

In striving at work, when are you "there"? There is no "there", and so you continue to sacrifice, never happy with where you're at.

Quiet is an incredible luxury to give yourself (like many, I tend to give myself sensory overload with television, ipod, computer, etc. A little quiet reading now feels like a vacation)

Cooking the old fashioned way is a luxury that grounds you and creates a sense of enjoyment

Seriously, this is an inexpensive book that has really helped me see the important things in my life, and has helped me to put my life into a new perspective. I really recommend anyone going through a period of self-examination take a look at the "search inside" feature on Amazon and see if her words speak to you as clearly as they did to me.
