When my purchase arrived, I was excited, until I opened the box and found a tiny plastic pouch with miniature supplies; two "blocks" of glycerin are each the size of a regular soap bar (4.2oz); bottles of scent so small I didn't see them at first. The package says "makes 16 soaps" but it fails to mention just how small those "soaps" will be. Doing the math, each "soap" is a tiny 1/2oz if you use the enclosed molds. To add insult to injury, each bite-sized portion costs nearly $1 each! Save your money - if making soap with your child/ren is something you really want to do, buy 1 lb of glycerin...($8), your favorite scent...($2), and a mold of you or your child's favorite shape...($2). For $14 you can have that afternoon and twice as much soap your child can give as gifts or keep for himself. I gave this 3 stars for educational, bonding aspects and overal concept, but this kit just isn't worth it.

This soap making kit is great fun for birthday parties. We used it with 7 8-year-old girls, and they each made their individually scented soap. The soaps are tiny, but it said so in the item description. The girls still had great fun with it, and I like that it is all natural.

I bought this with the intention of having my neices and nephews play together and have something to take home at the end of the day. This requires adult supervision as you will need to microwave the soap bar to melt it and make sure the kids do not burn themselves on it. You mix the scents that's given and pour them into the moulding trays. The heart shapes are actually very small - not big enough to use as an actual soap, perhaps 1 inch at it's widest length. I probably would not recommend this for a 6 yr old or younger, but depending on your child, a mature 7 - 8 yr old that's good with manual dexterity and other crafts would be ideal. Otherwise you pretty much just make a mess and are unable to actually create a successful soap mould as the melted liquid soap needs to be quickly mixed with the scent and poured into the small trays.

My niece ripped open the box before she could finish saying, "Thank you." She got down to business and started making soap right away. The entire family had so much soap and she learned something in the process. I like to give children educational toys/ books/ etc...and this was a winner!

I got this product in between the requested time. It came with exactly what it said, though it would have been better if there were coloring to make this product more fun and add depth to the soap. I knew the molds would be small from another review so I was not disappointed. The soap melted in my home made double boiler with ease though it took a bit longer than it would if I had had a microwave. It froze quickly enough, under 20 minutes! The soap did not crumble when I used it and was surprisingly sturdy for this type of product. However, if you are expecting a spa-like or even store bought lather you would be mistaken. Also, the scents are not strong enough for anyone else to tell what you have just washed with. If you did in fact smell bad I guess it would be decent enough to wash away any odor, however if you wanted the world to know that you smelled like SOMETHING the oils are not strong enough for that. I got this to see if I wanted to get into the big time soap making biz without spending a lot at first and this was decent and easy enough to convince me. Cheap, easy, and makes decent "soap". I like it.

It has all the basics, but for $5 more, I could have got a set with 2lbs of soap, color bricks, 2 2.5 oz scents etc....I am bummed to have to give these as a gift. I will have to spend more money adding to the gift.

I make soap with lye & because lye is harmful if on skin before the PH changes, I thought my daughter would like this kit. She LOVED it. However, the soaps are tiny. About the size of a super ball (or smaller) If your daughter is very interested in soap making, just buy a large amount of glycerin melt and pour soap, some scents and colors. It will be more cost effective. If you just want a 15 minute party project, this will suit your needs. It's really a one time thing and will lead to most parents wishing they had bought other supplies in bulk. However, this kit is nice for its simplicity, my 4 year old was able to make soap with almost no help from me & so I give it 4 stars for its easy introduction into soap making. Minus one star for value. Also, these color ants and scents are NOT natural. They are fragrance oils, not essential oils for one, for 2, the pink and blue colorants are man made. Not clays, herbs, etc. I recommend that they make a truly "natural" kit. Minus one star also for not using essential oils instead of fragrance oils & clays or herbs for colorants.
