A good reason why one review is not enough.,

I couldn't stand by and let this album get 1 star from just one reviewer.I bought this album when the video for K.I.S.S.I.N.G. first showed on (I think it was on BET.) Yes, it is heavy on drum machines and the like, but then, so was much of what Michael Jackson was doing at the time. The songs on this album are as catchy as any MJ song. Siedah Garret has a naturally "growly" voice. Her voice is similar to Irene Cara from the movie FAME, but way better. The true test of an album is whether or not you would buy it more than once. I wore the original cassette tape out, then bought it on CD and made a tape for my car from the CD.I still listen to it. It might not be a 5-star album but it's definitely not a 1.

the magic of music!,

For those of you who are old enough to remember; I first saw this lady on soul train singing the tune "don't look any further"with former Temptation Dennis Edwards and was sightly smitten by her vocal abilities;this was in 1982, I was all but eleven years old but I still knew great talent When I saw and/or heard it. Do any of you music buffs remember a mid 80's late night video show called "new york hot tracks" ? Well this was the second time I caught a listen to this very talented lady, she had a video out for a hot club number entitled "do you want it right now"! This song was from the motion picture soundtrack to the movie "fast foward"! Well my fascination grew and I've been spellbound every since. From then on I started seeing her name on various cassettes that I would get as a background singer and finally I decided to do the imposible and try and contact this exceptional artist and struck gold! Not only did she send me an autogaphed picture;she called my house to let me know that the picture was on it's way! I was'nt at home at the time but she talked to my mother and sent her a little "post it" note on the picture that she sent to me! How's that! Anyway I have been a fan of this lady's talents for so long and I am so happy to finally get "kiss of life" on cd. I still have my cassette and it still plays well. You must take care of the classics no matter what form they're in.That's exactly what "kiss of life" is. If "groove of midnight" does'nt lift your sexual spirit then you are numb from the ears down. Another great track and possibly my personal favorite is "baby's got it bad" produced by the great rod temperton; and as you will see it gives you the same effect as micheal jacksons' "off the wall" and is just as good! It's one of those songs that you wish didn't have an end! And if rod produces a song you are going to "SING" it! And fnally "refuse to be loose", a funky "L.A. and Babyface" produced and penned classic. Try lstening to this tune while riding on public tranportation. (smile) All in all this is a great piece of ear candy as "siedah" calls it. Well worth a listen and many listens to come.and "SY" if you are reading this come on wit some new stuff girl!

Siedah was hot then, sings hot and will always be hot...The album never got the recognition that it deserved. Her voice is unique and she and Rod are fantastic writers, making so many good artists great...I will always be die-hard fan, love her...lee*

Garrett's Greatest,
By

I had Siedah's cassett tape for what seems like 10 years now and it is worn to a frazzle so I upgraded to the CD. This CD has the ability to make you bounce to the its up tempo songs like "Kissing" and "Refuse to be Loose" and mellow down with the song I feel launched this album "Nobody Does Me (Like You Do)" and "Innocent Side". "The Legend of Ruby Diamond" well lets just say once you hear it, you'll find yourself humming that tune all day long and wanting to meet Ruby. This album is definately one to add to your collection.

Bubbling, Bubbly Brown Sugar...,

...her latest vocal assignment has been with the group the Brand New Heavies, and she was involved lately as one of the producers to the many songs in the Elmo in Grouchland soundtrack... She put out this lone album for the Quincy Jones production machine in the late 80s and it lent many arguments as to who influenced whom or was it that much of a well oiled production that you couldn't tell the various parts from the sum...? Anyhoo, the cut "Kissing" got moderate airplay, but THE jam was the bent over backwards soulful Temperton slow tune "No One Does Me". Ummmm-Huuuummm! Garrett, see, has always been a favorite of mine waaaaay before she was made famous with MJJ. Remember? On that Dennis Edwards cut "Don't Look Any Further"? (she musta been, what?--10 years old when she recorded that...) Can't wait til baby girl's got another CD on the racks!

The Best R&B of the 80's,
By
This review is from: Kiss of Life (Audio CD)
I have had this on cassette, when it wore out I had to purchase the disc. Before I found it on CD, I bought the vinyl copy. I believe that this is a really good albumn for the 1980's. I used to listen to it, and dance. I am glad that she made a second CD, however it is not as good as this one is. The second CD is alot of reproductions of old songs. But it is definitely worth having if you enjoy Siedah Garrett.. Sit back and relax and enjoy Ruby D...

If you do not know siedah, you're missing one of the best dance divas of the 80's!!,

Hi everybody!!!I just wanted to say that I bought this CD back in 89, with the infamous " K.i.s.s.i.n.g" which to me was a good dance song. To all of you who do not know Siedah or heard of her, you'll find her at her best with " do you want it right now" which to me is one of the best disco-funky song of the mid 80's. If you liked shannon, or electric dance music, you sure will be pleased with "do you want it right now". Her voice echoeing like thunder is just too much to take, that you cannot help but move. Unfortunately not many people know that she was the first to sing " do you want it right now" before it was covered by taylor dayne and Biti of degrees of motion. This song was played in the club 3 years in a row from 85 to 88, a favorite of NY and Miami's DJ's. I still have it and still listen to it, still feels the same. If you love 80's dance music, " do you want it right now" would take your heart away. try for yourself and see. A Fan!!

Another Looked Over Artist,
By
This review is from: Kiss of Life (Audio CD)
Kiss of Life by Siedah Garrett is one of the Best Albums I have ever heard. It is well written, emotionally sang, and musically the most diverse album to date. Nothing on this album sounds even similiar to the accompaning counterparts. Siedah has done, as always, a fantastic job a delivering what I would say are top notch vocals on every track. I bought this album from it first release. Now I am buying it again because the songs have never left me. Siedahs writing techniques are immpeccable. Rod Temperton is the absolute best at what he do and coupled with Siedah and all that she brings to the table, this masterpiece will live on forever. There are so many artists that fall into the Overlooked and Underestimated catagory. Siedah is one that always comes to mind. Another artist is Cherrelle. Siedah has always been and will always be my Female Artist of the My Life time. My hats off to you Siedah..........

A wonderful CD! I still have it on album. I really want a CD. Side one is just pitch perfect! There is not much to add to what has already been said. She is also the cowriter of "Man in the Mirror" dueted and toured with micheal on "Cant stop loving you", and more recently nominated for an oscar for "Love You I do" from the movie "Dream girls". Some lesser know gems that she wrote are "All Caught up in Love" by Roberta Flack on the "oasis" cd, and "As a matter of Fact" by Natalie Cole from the "Good to be Back" cd. She also was the recorded "Ever Changing Times long before Aretha and Michael McDonald did.

Seeing the Quincy Jones's executive production and the Rod Temperton's production I had believed in something different. Yes, Quincy's usually musicians do they're usually terrific work, but the songs have nothing special. The best are tracks 3-7-8, written by Siedah, and track 9 by Rod Temperton (which remebers Rock with you of MJ). Tracks 1-4-5 are danceful and track 6 is a Groove of Rod Temperton. Track 2 is written by a young Babyface.
