A Great Read,

Mr. Ducker's book, "The Kiss that Caused My Slice". is a collection of poems that are witty and wonderful. I loved it almost as much as I love to play golf!

Witty and entertaining - even for non-golfers,
This review is from: The Kiss That Caused My Slice (Paperback)
As a consummate golf widow, I wasn't really sure how I would feel about this book, but I picked it up and couldn't put it down. The humor and passion in Ducker's poems are pure and the laughter contagious. Whether you golf or not, you will be able to relate to the emotions - from the rivalry of the sport to the solitude and camaraderie. Putting Out brought tears to my eyes, and I couldn't stop laughing at Raising the Ante. After reading the poems, I felt like I had a little better understanding of why my husband spends so much of his time hitting a little white ball across acres of green. Strongly recommend this book for golfers and non-golfers alike!

much like the game itself (at its best),

The poems have a nice easy swing, but w a surprising (and satisfying) whack behind them. And to steal a phrase (Updike, I think) the poems seem to live in that happy "dream time" that defines playing well.

As I quickly become an old man my birthdays are less and less enjoyable, gone are the days of late night of partying with friends replaced by enjoyable but predictable celebrations. This year proved no different with a gift of an overpriced T-Shirt (I knew I could never wear and hoped could be returned). Imagine my surprise when my daughter gave me Ducker's book!! This was easily the most unexpected and exciting gift I have been given in a long time.
While I certainly am not an accomplished golfer I do enjoy the time with friends. Ducker's poetry brings back many of these enjoyable days with great color and humor. I also found I could relate too much of the poetry in regard to my other pastimes- skiing, windsurfing, fishing etc... I really enjoyed the poetry and find myself coming back to it often!

Top of the Gift List,
By N Duncan (england) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Kiss That Caused My Slice (Paperback)
This book is going to the top of our gift list for golfers this year. The humour will make your chuckle quietly as you read. Golfers will sympathise with the emotions in the poems -- surely Hole Countdown captures the agony of every round (though my personally bogeyman is the 15th). And every married person, golfer or not, will understand Upping the Ante. Good entertainment when you can't get to the links.

I really enjoyed the book - the author captures the spirit and camaraderie of the game. As you read it is easy to imagine the sights and sounds of a walk down the fairway.

A great read,
This review is from: The Kiss That Caused My Slice (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed Ducker's poetry. Ducker captures the aspects of golf that I love the most: friendship, competitiveness and timelessness. It's a great read. If you've ever basked in the glow of a late summer's light walking down a fairway knowing the ball you just pumped O.B. doesn't matter because your buddy's buying, you'll love this book.

The Kiss That Caused My Slice,

A great golf book that captures the spirit of the game. I really enjoyed how the poems touched on the aspects of the game that I really appreciate and enjoy like the matches, swing challenges, bets, and friendships. I think it was the first time my wife actually also enjoyed anything I have purchased related to golf. She mentioned that many of the poems talk about many aspects of life through golf. Either way, I highly reccomend The Kiss That Caused My Slice. My personal favorite was Tempo and Balance which reminded me of a great golf trip with some good friends.

A Must Gift,
By Book Nut (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Kiss That Caused My Slice (Paperback)
This book is a must gift for any golfer, for anyone who lives with or wants to live with a golfer, perhaps for anyone who wants convincing to move out from a golfer, and for anyone who wants to do a golfer a great favor. The poems are full of humor, pathos, whimsey, and drama--indeed they give you all of the sensations of a good round with friends, without having to pick up a club or strain your back.

A charming read and perfect gift,
This review is from: The Kiss That Caused My Slice (Paperback)
This book is a delight to read, and you don't have to be a golfer. It would make a great gift for any golfer, or at the reasonable price a wonderful favor for participants in a golf outing, or as corporate gifts. As I was reading it, I kept wishing someone were with me to share it with.
