Cate credits her favorite childhood authors--including J.R.R. Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey, Nora Roberts, Guy Gavriel Kay, and James Herriot--for her love of fiction, great characters, and a rich imagination. Writing became a force in her life when clever elementary school teachers assigned weekly creative writing projects. She wrote through high school, particularly when bored in class. (Rumor has it those early pages consisted of fantasies about Duran Duran, but she is silent on the issue and keeps those notebooks from prying eyes.) She put fiction aside to earn a Ph.D.--but her muse, even while stuffed in a dark closet, never shut up. Now she and her muse and her story people get to play every day. (There might be strawberry mojitos involved, but again, she's not saying.)

I love modern takes on classic fairy tales. Although Kiss That Frog is of the shorter variety, it is full of charm and feel good romance. It was a very satisfying, easy read, which can be hard to do with short stories.

It's really cute how Sophia seems cynical and guarded, yet she starts opening up to this pet frog she's petsitting. Even in his frog form they have this connection that pushes past Sophia's walls she's so carefully built.

Kiss That Frog is perfect for a fun, quick read, for those days when you need a little charm to perk you up.

This story is just adorable--it's the perfect little fairy tale about a lonely artist who reluctantly agrees to pet-sit her niece's toad, and accidentally discovers he's a bewitched 19th-century prince (and, as it happens, quite charming indeed. Not to mention sexy.) There's humor, and also a believable breaking-down of the emotional barriers the artist has used to protect herself.

The story's quick and sweet and satisfying, like sneaking a fresh-baked chocolate-chip cookie before dinner.

I thought this was a cute short story. It was very short it took me about 30 mins from start to finish. I thought for the length it was a pretty good book., Great read for me While I was waiting to pick up my Kids from school.

So you got Prince Alex's father the king and he is having a house party trying to get Price Alex to choose a Bride. Prince Alex is not ready and is trying to dodge all the girls, but one Mama is not having it Jesynne mother the Duchess is also a witch and she gives the Prince a chose either marry her daughter or else. Well the Price choose or else and........200 yrs later Los Angeles U.S.A. you got anti-soical painter Sofia who gets sucked into watching her 7yr nieces pet frog for a week. While watching the frog Sofia slowly starts to talk and touch the frog. At one points she says she wished the frog would turn into a real Price like the fairy tale stories and she kisses it and........... nothing happens just her luck. She takes a bath and when she comes out a strange handsome man is sitting on her couch dressed like a freak.

I thought this was a cute story I would recommend it to people who would like a quick read to pass the time.

4.5 Stars for what is a cute read! Kiss That Frog, A Modern Fairy Tale by Cate Rowan gives a new updated grown up version of the classic tale. The story is a perfect mix of enjoyable plot, some ridiculously funny scenes, and wonderful romance. Expanded it would make a very funny movie. I would pay to go see it! My only reason for not giving it five stars is the bad language used by Sofia. I get that she is a housekeeping challenged “cynical Los Angeles artist” but the language did not fit with the image pictured in my mind of her. Honestly, in this case it did not move the story along or give me any insight into the character. I guess I just don’t believe any one so committed to their young niece would use those expressions so casually. This is my opinion as someone who is only a reader not a writer or someone just out of date with the rest of the world. Still I liked the story and the characters very much.

Sophie just wants time alone to paint, but her niece needs a frog sitter.

This is a quick, cute, and sweet modern rendition of The Frog Prince or The Princess and the Frog.

Characters are authentic and compassionate.

Overall, a touching read.

This was really funny and adorable especially for a modernized fairy tale! I loved Sofia's character and the way she took to Toad the frog eventually. It is almost a lesson in keeping an open mind and learning from your surroundings :) It.was short and sweet and a very good read. Easily read in one sitting and would probably be good for a rainy day or a day at the beach! I would recommend this story to romance enthusiasts and fantasy lovers alike.

This is a great but all too short grown up take on the fairytale about a frog patiently waiting to find the princess to turn him back into a human prince with her kiss. Only it's modern times, so the 'princess' is an introverted artist reluctantly pet sitting for her niece. It's a cheerful romp that will bring a smile and have you thinking twice about the next frog that might pass your way!

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have a confession to make. This is the first novella I have ever read. I think it was a pretty good introduction into the style of novellas. This little tidbit of magic was delightful and left behind a nice warm fuzzy feeling. Would recommend for a quick cozy read. I am interested to see what else Ms. Rowan has to offer!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. 3.5/5
