5.0 out of 5 stars A fun romantic short! July 10, 2012
By Elisa
Format:Kindle Edition
This story is just adorable--it's the perfect little fairy tale about a lonely artist who reluctantly agrees to pet-sit her niece's toad, and accidentally discovers he's a bewitched 19th-century prince (and, as it happens, quite charming indeed. Not to mention sexy.) There's humor, and also a believable breaking-down of the emotional barriers the artist has used to protect herself.

The story's quick and sweet and satisfying, like sneaking a fresh-baked chocolate-chip cookie before dinner.

4.5 Stars for what is a cute read! Kiss That Frog, A Modern Fairy Tale by Cate Rowan gives a new updated grown up version of the classic tale. The story is a perfect mix of enjoyable plot, some ridiculously funny scenes, and wonderful romance. Expanded it would make a very funny movie. I would pay to go see it! My only reason for not giving it five stars is the bad language used by Sofia. I get that she is a housekeeping challenged “cynical Los Angeles artist” but the language did not fit with the image pictured in my mind of her. Honestly, in this case it did not move the story along or give me any insight into the character. I guess I just don’t believe any one so committed to their young niece would use those expressions so casually. This is my opinion as someone who is only a reader not a writer or someone just out of date with the rest of the world. Still I liked the story and the characters very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Review March 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Sophie just wants time alone to paint, but her niece needs a frog sitter.

This is a quick, cute, and sweet modern rendition of The Frog Prince or The Princess and the Frog.

Characters are authentic and compassionate.

Overall, a touching read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming and fun February 13, 2014
By april
Format:Kindle Edition
I love modern takes on classic fairy tales. Although Kiss That Frog is of the shorter variety, it is full of charm and feel good romance. It was a very satisfying, easy read, which can be hard to do with short stories.

It's really cute how Sophia seems cynical and guarded, yet she starts opening up to this pet frog she's petsitting. Even in his frog form they have this connection that pushes past Sophia's walls she's so carefully built.

Kiss That Frog is perfect for a fun, quick read, for those days when you need a little charm to perk you up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough story for a real review April 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

Kiss That Frog was a very short retelling of The Frog Prince. It was just ok for me, possibly because there wasn't enough time to really get a feel for the characters. Sitting at about 40 pages, it felt like this was only an introduction to the story, even though the tale seemed to have run its full course. The story wasn't bad, I just wish that there had been more to it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A sweet, quick read. March 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't have a whole lot to say about this novella.

I don't normally read a lot of romance, so it was a little out of my comfort zone. But it was sweet, simple, a little bit funny, had dialogue which was cute and a little witty, and gave an overall feeling of warmth.

There were clichés, oh boy were there, but I didn't find the story dragging at all, and I liked the feel of the piece.

After reading this story, I might be inclined to purchase some of the author's other works if the chance arises, where I probably wouldn't have even thought about it before.

I would recommend it to someone wanting a fairytale more grounded in the real world than in fantasy, and for a quick and happy read.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wish it had been longer. March 12, 2014

Book Review- Kiss That Frog by Cate Rowan

Alexander of Nemere refused to marry the daughter of a Duchess who happened to be a witch. After telling the Duchess he would not marry her daughter, she lets loose her wrath and magic.
Sofia is an artist living on her own. She adores her niece and gets talked into caring for her niece’s frog while they go out of town. Sofia is not thrilled to have the frog in her apartment and hopes it stays in its home and out of hers. However after time she becomes comfortable with it. She paints and talks to the frog. He even becomes her muse for her paintings.
One day she has a moment of feeling sorry for herself and the frog. She picks him up and kisses him. Wishing for a prince, she kisses the frog again. A bit disappointed she continues with her day. Her shock is evident when she finds a strange man in her apartment claiming to be the frog.
This is a modern day fairytale. My favorite part is when Sofia walks into the living room and comes face to face with Alex aka the frog. She completely freaks out. It was quite comical.
I do wish it would have been longer. Everything happened so fast. One minute it seemed Sofia was afraid of getting hurt then she wasn’t. I give it a 3 out of 5.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brief Princess and the Frog Contemporary Interpretation February 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
A very brief but adorable princess and the frog interpretation. The novella has a good build-up, but the ending is over too quickly. The male MC is quite the gentleman and the lead female is likeable. A cute story, I just wish it was longer!
