5.0 out of 5 stars Never Mind 'Never Mind' Here's KISS THIS!, September 4, 2000
The "Kiss This" 2-CD set, is, without a doubt, the best Sex Pistols product on the market. It's even a better purchase than "Never Mind the Bollocks..." How can that be? you ask.

The first CD is a nearly complete chronicle of everything the Pistols recorded. It has every track that is on "Bollocks," (same mix, same version, same everything. I mention that b/c it was a question I had before I bought it) as well as each of the four B-sides to their original singles. Those are:

1)I Wanna Be Me (B-side of "Anarchy") 2)"Did You No Wrong" (B-side of "God Save...") 3)"No Fun" (B-side of "Vacant"--awesome!!!) 4)"Satellite" (B-side of their last single, "Holidays...")

This last song deserves mention because it is, as author Jon Savage put it, "the great lost Sex Pistols recording." It's available on other bootlegs, but not this version. "Satellite" has some of the best Rotten lyrics, a fantastic Steve Jones riff, and wouldn't have sounded--well, I was going to say it wouldn't have sounded out of place on "Bollocks" but the truth is it would have; it's that good. Really. I mean it. If you're a Pistols' fan, you have to listen to this song.

"Kiss This" also contains several covers from their earliest days: "Don't Give Me No Lip, Child" and "Stepping Stone." "Did You No Wrong" was one of their first original tunes, and is here; it's a Mod-ish, tough little love song, the likes of which they'd never do again. Following these songs the rest of the "Bollocks" catalog. Always a pleasure to hear this stuff again (and again and again!)

The final two songs are a great bonus: Sid Vicious' version of "My Way," a brilliant/stupid, trashing/celebration of the Sinatra/Presley egotistical classic. Is this Sid's finest moment? It's a phenomenal piece of work, really. The last song is "Silly Thing," sung by Steve Jones after Rotten had left the band. There's a different version of this on the "Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle" soundtrack, but this one is good as well. Is it about Johnny Rotten?

This first CD has a great fold-out collage on one side of the insert, and a detailed commentary about each song by John Lydon, Paul Cook, Steve Jones, and Glen Matlock. An unexpected treat!

Disc 2 is "Live in Trondheim, 21 July 1977," a pretty good recording of a decent performance with Sid on bass. It only has 8 songs, but is a nice extra for the price.

As a long-time, die-hard Pistols fan, I was extrememly happy with this purchase. I was also happy to that it's not a bootleg; it's a fully authorized release from Virgin Records. The sound quality is excellent--maybe even better than the current CD of "Bollocks" from Warner Brothers.

"Kiss This" is an absolutely essential purchase for any fan of the Sex Pistols, well worth the $28. Buy it today, keep the Swindle alive!

5.0 out of 5 stars KNOW THIS: THIS VERSION IS NOT THE 2 CD ONE!, November 14, 2000
By Brent Chapman (Aptos, CA. USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
While this is absolutly one of the best CDs I have spent money on in quite some time, the second disc (live recordings) mentioned in the first review is not included. Imagine my dissapointment.

Aside from that, the Sex Pistols remain the greatest punk band of all time and this disc has just about everything they ever did. There are liner notes for every single song (which actually come straight out of John Rotten's 1995 book, "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs", which is a fabulous auto-biographical recount of the whole mid-seventies maddness. Go read it.)

And if you don't have a Sex Pistols collection, this is it. Learn them, know them, adore and remember them.

Now piss off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just more product., September 25, 2006
By Jack Apple (Big Apple) - See all my reviews
One needs only two Sex Pistols' albums: "Never Mind the Bollocks" and "Rock n Roll Swindle." There's just nothing out there that even remotely resembles the Pistols' version of 'Roadrunner' ("Steve, wait...wait....I don't know the f'n words!") and the pieces by Jones and Cook are excellent, and a great preview of their work together in The Professionals. For those who wish to go deeper, in addition to "Swindle" and "Bollocks," I'd recommend John Lydon's first album with PIL featuring "Religion I & II," ("Fat pig priest, sanctimonious smile...") along with PIL's greatest hits or Metal Box, also any work Lydon did with Leftfield, e.g. "Open Up"; anything by The Professionals is great ("I Didn't See It Coming"), and the soundtrack to 'Sid & Nancy' if only for the atmosphere provided by Pray for Rain and The Pogues. (By the way, if interested, you can probably find a few clips of Steve Jones and The Professionals in action on YouTube. Highly entertaining.) Additionally, the band sounds great on "Filthy Luchre Live" and the two DVD documentaries "Never Mind The Bollocks" and "The Filth and the Fury" are worthy, although the "Bollocks" DVD is superior, in my view, deconstructing the making of the album, featuring interviews with band and producers. Lastly, for Steve Jones completists, check out his stint with the Neurotic Outsiders and his first solo album, "Mercy," which is something of a lost masterpiece.
