Interesting, beautiful, and a must-have,

Kiss Kiss is not a very well-known band for a good reason. They are VERY original and experimental, and far from appealing to any mainstream music-goer. This EP is their first release of any sort, and captures those original qualities better than anything released by them since. The only negative (some people may see it as a negative) is that the lyrics don't make much sense, and the album doesn't come with lyrics. But keep in mind that they are a somewhat ambient band. The combination of modern rock with classical styles, shown not only through the violin, but also through the modern instruments as well, offers something completely different, artistic, and again, beautiful. Anyone should give it a try; it's a cheap sample, and if you have an open mind for music, this will expand your level of appreciation for original music in general.

I'm not sure where my 16 yr. old daughter heard about this band, but she put this on her Christmas wish list. She has played this quite a bit since then, so I can't help but listen to it as well, and I actually like this quite a bit."Kiss Kiss" (5 tracks, 21 min.) brings high energy songs that stop-and-go, with a very ecclectic feel to it. The electric violin is featured prominently and officially has made a come-back due to bands like Yellowcard and Kiss Kiss. None of the 5 songs on here is weak as such. That said, my personale favorites are the rocking "College Film" and the 'ballad' "Drifts and Pulls". Singer-lyricist Joshua Benach and voilinist Bob Pyciar, who write all of the band's music, are definitely on to something good, and I can't wait for the proper debut album sometime later this year. Meanwhile, buy the EP, you won't regret it!

Great songwriting, catchy melodies. The Solid and Dynamic drum tracks support the unique, emotive voice of the singer. The music strikes a fine balance between the frenetic and the beautiful, done with a wonderful sense of aesthetic. Synths, violins, noise, all painstakingly composed and played expertly. I've listened to this record many times, and I count it among one of my absolute favorites. This record is a great debut, and shows only a hint of what Kiss Kiss are capable of... Highly recommended. |
