Book Description

After what can only be described as a momentous year, vampire bounty hunter Morgan Bailey is looking forward to a nice, quiet birthday. But fate has other plans. Instead of gorging on cupcakes and enjoying a private party for two with her sexy new boyfriend, Morgan is hot on the trail of a sidhe—a subspecies of fae—who’s run amok in Portland. But this is no ordinary fairy; he is as powerful as he is psychotic. And considering the supernatural nutjobs Morgan has dealt with in her time, that’s saying something.

To take him down, Morgan forms an uneasy alliance with the Fairy Queen and embarks upon her most outrageous adventure yet. But in the midst of the chaos, Morgan realizes there is more to this sidhe than meets the eye. And if she fails, if he achieves his endgame, it will trigger devastation unlike anyone—or anything, human or otherwise—has ever seen.

About the Author

Shéa MacLeod spent most of her life in Portland, Oregon, before moving to an Edwardian townhouse in London located just a stone’s throw from a local cemetery. Such a unique locale probably explains a lot about her penchant for urban fantasy post-apocalyptic sci-fi paranormal romances, but at least the neighbors are quiet. Alas, the dearth of good doughnuts in London drove her back across the pond to the land of her birth. She is the author of the Sunwalker Saga and Dragon Wars series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good book, bad ending, superfluous "novella" February 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am enjoying this series. However, I was quite disappointed by the brevity of this book, and the cliff hanging ending. With more than a quarter of the space still pending in this book, it was filled with another "novella" that didn't interest me. This seems to be a trend on Kindle books lately, and I don't like it. A kindle book should be at least 95 percent of the story you bought!

4.0 out of 5 stars Short action packed installment to a great series January 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've only recently discovered Shea Macleod and the Sunwalker Saga, but I have to admit I'm thoroughly impressed. This third installment is much shorter than the first two, but even so, it's action packed and perfunctory in its style. I think one of the reasons I like the series so much is because the writing style is all down to business with the storyline and not a lot of time is spent on reflection, descriptions or anything else that doesn't push the story forward. Having said that, if you haven't read the first two, then you definitely need to go back and read them, but they're so fast paced and funny, you can't go wrong.

Morgan Bailey continues to acquire new powers after realizing she's capable of bringing forth darkness and fire. As she helps her brother solve a mysterious paranormal murder where nothing makes sense, she finds a new ability in smoke or rather air. She can barely manage the first two abilities when the smoke breaks from her like a tsumani and she fears she's losing control to these elements. With no time to worry, her investigation leads her to the world of the Fae and the possible brink of war between humans and the Djinn, but while she may manage to avert one war, it may just lead to another.

Although this installment is filled with events and we get an inkling that there are at least three more powers that Morgan could potentially acquire, it seems like it is mostly stage setting and informative for what's to come. Almost all the previous characters are in this book or at a minimum referenced and I have to wonder how it's all going to tie together. Inigo is breathtakingly by Morgan's side every step of the way in this book, but Morgan seems to be wavering on her feelings about Jack.

3.0 out of 5 stars This one wasn't as good as the others January 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read this author's other books and enjoyed them a lot, but this one just didn't quite meet the bar. The writing is still well-executed, until the end.

This book stops in what feels like the middle of the story without any warning. You turn the page, and suddenly, where you expect the next chapter is a short story. I can see why the author thought the book was done, but she didn't spend any time wrapping up the climax. It was jarring to say the least.

Secondly, I don't like how boyfriend crazy the Hunter's become. It's cute, up to a point, but it doesn't really fit the character's personality, or at least my impression of her personality. Granted, this particular concern pales in light of the previous one.

All in all, I was a huge fan of the series, but I'm not sure I want to go through another book only to have this happen at the end again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, disappointing ending place January 12, 2013
By Kat V.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked this book as much as the other ones, but I have to agree with the general sentiment about the ending. The other two books left more to the story but also left it at a place where you were comfortable with stopping. This book basically ends at the climax, which is just irritating. I was planning on buying the next book when it came out before I finished this one, but now I don't know. I really don't like to reward that kind of writing.

Also, some other reviewers mentioned an included novella, but my Kindle book included no such thing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the Vampire book i am used to. September 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The hero is okay as a person but for someone who is supposed to be genetically changed to fight vampires she has a surprising lack of super strength and speed to even keep up with the weakest monster.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rushed plot, sucky ending September 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
As in her previous books the the overall plot was pretty good, until the end. Not only was the action and interactions between characters rushed, the ending (where lots of really important stuff happens!) cramps so much into the last couple pages that there's no time for the reader to form any attachment to the characters. On top of that MacLeod kills off her best character. I gave this one two stars because the ending was that bad.
