Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This bedtime romp, first published in Australia in 2005, was named a 2006 Honour Book by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. Its familiar scenario, which puts a comic spin on the nightly conflict of getting ready for bed, will speak loudly to children elsewhere as well. Baby Bear is cranky and wants none of the bath, bed, and beyond stuff. He gives his mother a bedtime kiss, but steadfastly refuses Father Bear’s entreaties, even as Father cleverly moves Baby up the stairs, into the bath, and into bed—all the while showing how other baby animals might kiss their dads. Legge’s rounded, glowing, comforting illustrations cleverly embed images of a variety of animals into each scene—a crocodile soap dish, a koala stair decoration, mouse ears on Baby Bear’s bedpost—making each page a delight to study. A satisfying kiss and bonus hug make a fitting end. --Connie Fletcher

The art work in this book is really stunning. We have ready a lot of children books to our son but this is one of our favorites. The colors and story line pull everything together very nicely.

Nice board book. Sweet cute story about a daddy bear getting baby ready for sleep. Just too wordy at the moment for my 15 month old.

It was a fun father and son book. My 10 month old son loves books. He turns the pages and looks at the pictures. He has had the book for 2 months and it looks brand new despite all the teething and little hands turning the pages.

this is a cute book and my daughter who is 16 months likes to read it with my husband. It's a little wordy though and he has to abbreviate the story so that it doesn't lose her attention.

Our daughter loves this book! It is her favorite! Her father reads this to her almost every night. There are times when she even recites it!

This is my son's absolute favorite book. It has beautiful drawings that are rich and really jump off the page. The repetitive nature of the story is great for language development. My son has this book memorized so he "reads" it all the time - multiple times a day - and it is a must-read before nap and bed. The daddy character is sweet and silly, and it allows for lots of playing with voices and pretend kisses during reading time. I've purchased this book for many of my son's friends as birthday gifts, and my son's last birthday cake was even based on the book he loves it so much. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy interactive reading with your young child!
