Grade 7 Up-This is just the kind of lighthearted guidebook that teens and preteens love to devour. Schreibman defines different types of kisses, a brief history of the act beginning with the ancient Romans, kissing games, humorous first-kiss memories from real girls and celebrities, an "Are You Ready to Kiss?" quiz, and lots more trivia on the subject. The author lets readers know that not everyone is ready to kiss at a certain age. The chapter on French kissing is especially good with its nonjudgmental attitude toward this "step beyond." Readers will appreciate the laid-back, breezy tone of the lively narrative. Kissing is a much better treatment of the topic than Caroline Plaisted's Love Lines (Element, 2000). Although there are no illustrations, this is a fun book on a popular topic.
