Kindergarten-Grade 4-Jack Rabbit boasts idly without much consideration for how he might actually accomplish the feats that he brags about. One day he goes a little too far-claiming he's so graceful that he can dance with a rattlesnake "without getting bit" and so brave that he can kiss coyotes and live to tell the tale. With that last boast, his desert friends have had enough and they challenge Jack to do so. Just when he thinks he has gotten away with kissing three sleeping coyotes, they wake up, and chaos ensues. How Jack makes good on all of his claims results in a funny, adventurous folktale, and Vaughan's folksy narrative keeps the story flowing. Spengler's computer-enhanced illustrations are vivid with the colors of the desert. Jack's friends, a Gila monster, roadrunner, and fox, are friendly and energetic. The art is action-packed and larger than life, adding to the robust story.

This book rattles your socks with a hilarious adventure in the desert with Jack Rabbit, coyotes, skunk, road runner, gila monster and hawk. It is a great source of entertainment with its own unique communication style which my family loves. We read this in our child's class and the teacher insisted on getting a copy for the school library.
