Most underrated movie I've seen.,
By "ckast2" (Lawrence, KS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kissing a Fool (DVD)
I first saw this movie because I liked Jason Lee's acting in Chasing Amy. While that is a good reason to see it, the movie provides much more. Schwimmer gets to play a role that is the complete opposite of Ross, his character on "Friends." I also agree with other reviewers in that this movie has some of the funniest one-liners I've heard in a long time. Just give it a chance. The bad reviews for this movie usually come from an older crowd. This movie is obviously for a younger audience; people 18 to 30 years old.

What up?,
This review is from: Kissing a Fool (DVD)
This is an absolute treasure of a romantic comedy in which you are sure to love. David Schwimmer is hilarious while portraying his male chauvinist character to perfection. Jason Lee does an outstanding job of playing his best friend, the guy who is asked to hit on Schwimmer's fiance. This twisted comedy is sure to leave your sides hurting. Buy it, trust me, you'll love it.

This movie, hands down, is worth owning. You have a breakout performance by Jason Lee and an always solid second lead by Friends' David Schwimmer. Most importantly, this movie has very clever and well written dialogue regarding a circle of late 20 somethings in 1990's Chicago who are living the ups and downs of single dating life. You have humor, wit, unexpected lover drama and all around good cinema. This movie keeps your attention from the getgo, does not let go--based on its story telling style. I'm in my early 30's and love this film, my girlfriend is mid-20's and loves this film. And yes, even my 63 year old parents thought this film was particularly captivating over a recent family holiday weekend. Buy it. Watch it once a year. It gets better with each viewing.

Classic Sounds from a Great Soundtrack,
This review is from: Kissing A Fool: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This soundtrack and movie was in my opinion highly underrated by critics across the nation. This excellent score mixes in the awesome rhythms of the Mighty Blue Kings with that of the classic voice of Etta James. The Kissing a Fool soundtrack is the perfect sound for that romantic date however, I felt that the monologue included in the album was a bit dampening on the overall success that it should have received. I was also dissapointed to find that the Harry Connick Jr. songs heard in the movie which fit so elequently, we not included on this soundtrack. All in all, this is a good buy for any fan of swing, love, or the movie.

How Did This Movie Get Bad Reviews?!!,

I have no idea how this movie got panned. While I saw it on a whim at a friend's house (i.e., I probably wouldn't have rented it on my own), it was HYSTERICAL. Like "Swingers," mentioned by the other reviewer, it's a "quote" flick--meaning that you'll be spewing the best lines at unsuspecting friends/family for months to come. Sure, Schwimmer is Schwimmer--no great stretch--but Avital is gorgeous and Lee is hysterical.Trust me: after you see this, you'll know what these lines mean: -"That's good, 'cause you suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccked!" -"Whatup, Chicago?" Granted, the premise is somewhat preposterous, but who cares! Pay attention to the opening scene, where Schwimmer/Avital tell conflicting stories about their first date--good payoff!

A Pleasing And Light Romantic Comedy,
By
This review is from: Kissing a Fool (DVD)
Why is it I never heard of this movie before stumbling across it on TV? It's holds it's own against larger budget romantic comedies like "You've Got Mail" and "What Women Want". The DVD image and sound is as clear as a bell. The menus are simple and minimal, but just fine getting to where you want. The story is about trust and the meaning and power of love, all wrapped up with some original moments (but not overall plot structure) and very funny scenes. The characters' personalities are very real and believable; I couldn't help but relate to people I've known in my past. This is a perfect date movie, or for anyone looking for a nice light romantic comedy that will make you laugh out loud a few times -- and smile all the way.

boo to the critics,

What's with the bl***dy critics?! They obviously don't know a good movie when they see one. "Kissing A Fool" is an excellent film. One of the best comedies I've seen in years. David Schwimmer, Jason Lee and Mili Avital play their roles well - they have very good chemistry. I never miss a Jason Lee film - even if it's something as lousy as "Heartbreakers". Because he never let's you down. I rented "Kissing A Fool" a couple of years ago and recently bought it on DVD so I could watch it a million times more.

Potential Classic,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kissing a Fool (DVD)
It has all the elements to being a classic, the funny man with a broken heart, the suave man on the go too busy to have a serious relationship. Then there's the whole best friends and a woman in between, who does she pick? The actors in this movie solidified the storyline to make it into a potential classic. Jason Lee and the sarcastic humor and David Schwimmer playing a non-dorky character was a nice switch that he pulled off magnificently. So buy it or rent it, just get your hands on this movie.

I thought this movie was really funny and not overly sappy.A chic-flick that guys can enjoy too. Does anyone that has seen this know the name of the book(or the author) that Jay gives to Max?With the saying about love not being found where it doesn't already exist.

A meaningful sleeper with an unsure ending.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kissing a Fool (DVD)
I'm not much into the love story thing but this one definately got my attention. I am fully in agreement that true love can't be manufactured or put on in pretense. Just the same, untrue love can't continue without being found out eventually. This was a funny movie that also makes you think. It was not until the last ten minutes of the film that I felt sure of the ending plot, (a rarity in most of todays movies) something I like in a movie. I find it hard to believe that this movie did not go farther in the public. I can surely understand all of the professional reviewers giving it a poor grade. As a general rule, what they dislike, I find to be a good movie and I think the public also. This one slipped by most movie goers.
