here is the missing guitar piece,
By
This review is from: Kissing Jessica Stein (Audio CD)
I too loved that beautiful piece for guitar that we heard a little over an hour into the movie. And it's not on the soundtrack CD! - So, for all those who'd like to have it, here is the full info on that piece:It's called "The Cathedral" by Augustin Barrios-Mangore. It's a three movement piece and the final one, "Allegro Solemne" was the one used in the movie. I think the version for solo guitar is a special arrangement, but I did find 2 CDs with the full guitar version on Amazon. There is also a version with orchestra. And beware, some CDs only have the first movement of that piece included on the CD!

Great Movie, Great CD...but where's Dave's True Story?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kissing Jessica Stein (Audio CD)
I LOVED the movie & the soundtrack, but was disappointed that the two tracks by brilliant band: Dave's True Story, "Crazy Eyes" and "Sequined Mermaid Dress," didn't make the soundtrack. Both tunes added so much to the story. My solution...buy DTS' cd!

Not really a soundtrack, but an inspired rendering,
This review is from: Kissing Jessica Stein (Audio CD)
Caveat Emptor... The bottom of the CD cover says "music from and INSPIRED by the motion picture", so it isn't really the soundtrack from the film. Yes, some of the songs appear in the film, and many songs from the film are absent. For those seeking the two cuts from "Dave's True Story" (learning to kiss scene), you will have to buy the reissue of the "Daves True Story" CD (available on Amazon.com). Nevertheless, this CD provides an excellent, relaxing score to the single or swing-life in NYC. Liner notes are brief, but it does include the recording dates of each cut (some from the Verve catalog in the 1950s), and most include the names of the well known studio musicians who played backup.

This is NOT the soundtrack,

It's a very nice CD, but it's missing several songs from the film and has several songs not in the film. I felt totally cheated by what was missing. They shouldn't call it a soundtrack if it's not.

cool jazz collection,

This was a smart, witty, and very funny movie and the soundtrack was so cool that I bought it immediately after seeing the movie and listened to it as soon as I got home. You can't ask for a cooler collection of jazz legends doing some great songs. It's the perfect disk for listening to on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

A good jazz soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kissing Jessica Stein (Audio CD)
This is an above-average soundtrack from an excellent movie that makes outstanding and clever use of music. Of the cuts on the disc, those by Blossom Dearie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lyle Lovett are standouts, though I was slightly dissapointed to find that Ute Lemper's "Your My Special Girlfriend" and the inimitable Barry White were left out (along with all of the film's excellent instrumental music and original compositions).

Perfect music for a perfect movie,
By KarenandJack (Southboro, MA USA) - See all my reviews

Okay, so I've seen this movie 5 times and I really love it. This soundtrack captures the essence of the film perfectly. Using the songs and singers that they did, Heather Juergensen and Jennifer Westfeldt managed to make the soundtrack as poignant as the movie. From Billie Holliday to Diana Krall this soundtrack is flawless. Jill Phillips song "That Could Happen to Us" is my favorite on the album and is pretty much what the movie is all about. I would recommend this album to anyone who loves the music from this era and just wants a really great album of great women...and one male (Lyle Lovett singing a GREAT "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You?)...singers.

Where's the guitar??,
By Richard F. Keegan (Torrance, Ca United States) - See all my reviews

Great CD - great songs and performers. However . . . .what happened to the excellant guitar work by unknown artists? There was some great jazz/classical jazz guitar tunes that were missing on the CD, that were in the movie. Is there any recording of this film that has the guitar?

By A Customer
This review is from: Kissing Jessica Stein (Audio CD)
After much searching I have concluded that the name of the dinner song "Sky's Blue" is a song called "Lucky Dayz"...The artist's name is Adriana Evans and the song was featured on the 1997 "Hoodlum" soundtrack...Hope this helps!
