My son-in-law is a dedicated amateur wine maker. He shares his hobby with friends. He gave his copy of this book to a beginner but soon found it had to be replaced as a ready reference. He asked me to order it for him. Paula

These books contains a lot of helpful information and serves as a great reference for making wine from kits. I don't think it is required reading though.
Truth is, most kits come with fairly clear instructions on how to make wine from the contents. As long as you follow the instructions, you should come out with a pretty good wine in the end. This books does help to fill in some information that just can't be covered in the short, in-box instructions. It is useful as a reference.
If you have to choose between this book and a piece of winemaking equipment, go with the equipment. If you are looking for a little extra reading to make the hobby more fun and your wine kits a bit more successful, pick up this title.

I've always wanted to try making wine, and a friend suggested "kit wine making". This book shows step by step instruction, and the kits make it super simple. I can't wait to get a kit for Christmas, and get started!
