I found this item (the large size) at Ross for around $5. The idea is great, the execution not so much. It "adjusts" to let you choose the thickness of the patty. But adjusting the patty size, and "dispensing" the patty once it's formed, are almost impossible for two reasons: (1) the two plastic cylinders "stick," and do not move smoothly against each other and (2) your hands get SLIPPERY in the process of forming the patties (even with lean ground turkey) so you can't get a good grip on the two plastic cylinders. So, concept 5 stars; execution 0 stars. I just put mine in the garbage. /:o[

2.0 out of 5 stars Easily broken, December 16, 2011
This review is from: Kitchen Art 2-Piece Adjust-A-Burger (Kitchen)
The design concept here is outstanding. The quality is lacking, however. There are very small plastic "pegs" which hold the serving size disk in place. I have barely used this, and already two pegs have broken off, rendering it totally useless. I really liked it, too. 'Would love to see a stainless steel model. This one is junk. Don't bother. It won't last long. For those concerned with getting the burger out, I never touch hamburger when making patties. Try this: Spoon the burger into a fold-top baggie. Form the ball inside and place in the press. The burger will fill out inside the baggie and will be ready for the refrigerator or freezer. No fuss, no muss. Just pick a different gadget from this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, October 6, 2011

I've tried other patty making products, and this is my favorite so far.

I have no trouble at all making it work. I just slide a knife or spatula a little bit behind the burger to encourage it to drop.

It's nice having the two sizes. But, and this is why I didn't give it five stars, the small is small and the large is large. Neither is a normal burger size.

I'm a vegetarian and use it exclusively for homemade veggie burgers. Definitely an improvement over mashing them together by hand, and over the other two burger presses I tried.

I'd buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT MAKES GREAT PATTIES!, July 16, 2011

Kitchen Art 2-Piece Adjust-A-Burger, I have it for over two years now I don't eat Red Meat so I make Turkey and Veggie Burgers. The Big Adjust-A-Burger, has three choices of thickness 1/4 Lb., 1/2 Lb. and the one I like to make 1/3 of a Pound Patties. Turkey meat is very Sticky, I put a drop of oil on the Adjust-A-Burger and spread it on the top so the Patty will release without any problems, but you know, my favorite is to use a knife and peel the Patty right off because the oil is too messy.

The small Adjust-A-Burger has also three choices of thickness 1 oz., 2 oz. and 3 oz. I prefer to make 2 oz. Patties and it works just like the Big one, The Burgers are 3 Inch wide and I make many Mini-Burgers

I never had a problem I am so used to it and make Patties very fast, you can Check my Posted Pictures and see what I mean. The Big Adjust-A-Burger makes 4-1/4 Inch wide Patties and that is Big enough for me, I make many of them. Once I filled the Top with Meat I smooth it out with a spoon or knife and I release the outer clear ring off the chosen socket 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 sizes and guide the little peg into the main straight track, it has to be free for the next step, the outer ring is not going anywhere it is held by the meat and your fingers, which by the way are clean and Not "Slippery" at all because I touch the Meat with the spoon Not with my Fingers and the Adjust-A-Burger is Dry.

I use Parchment or Wax Paper Squares and I Flip the Adjust-A-Burger filled with Meat onto the Paper Square I push down on top of the unit with my thumbs as I'm holding down with my fingers the outer clear ring to compress and make the Patty even, as I'm pushing down (not too hard) a tiny bit of juice will ooze out around the ring, that translates into a good job done the Patty is shaped then I release the outer clear ring by pushing it up and the patty should stay on the Parchment Paper if it does not, use a knife to peel it off from the Adjust-A-Burger, that's what I do when I make Turkey Burgers the meat is very sticky.

The Adjust-A-Burger makes Perfectly shape Patties. I am Not Associated with any of these Companies, no one is telling me what to say or paying me, I do it because I have this Gadget for a long time and I know Exactly how it works. I am giving it Five Stars because for me it works Great! ...I think it is just a matter of learning and getting used to it. Check my Pictures, Thank You

Don't waste your money on this. I ordered it thinking it would be good to help make sausage patties and uniform hamburger patties. First tere is no opposing surface to flatten the patties. You are stuck using your fingirs or the counter top to flatten the patties. Second the ajustable peg and groves dont work. Thgey are so shaloloww that the won't hold in place and you end up constantly hving to readjust the setting. Third, if you press hard enough to flatten the patty, it oozes down the inside of the tube, making a complete mess. Lastly, after you have pressed the patty on another surface, repeated had to readjust the thickness setting, made sure you don't have it oozing inside, the entire thing is greasy hard to hold and almost impossible to get the burger off of the bottom of the press. It sticks to it. when you get it removed, it no longer resembles a patty and you could have doe the same thing with your hands and got better results. The only redeeming factor is that it is dishwasher proof. Over all, a piece of garbage
