Great Gingerbread House Mold!,

This Gingerbread House Mold was very easy to use.
I used the recipe included in the kit to make the dough. The taste of the end product was okay. I'm sure you can find better tasting recipes if you plan to eat it; but the nice thing about this recipe was that it was portioned to make one house. So you can make just one house or multiply it according to however many houses you desire. My 2.5 year old had fun helping make the gingerbread house. She would press the dough in each area and I would go over it with a rolling pin. I chose to move the pieces to a separate cookie sheet instead of baking them in the mold. This allowed me to bake all the necessary pieces at one time. This is definitely something my girls and I will be using every year.

Cute Houses, Good Quality Mold - Wish it had 2X the Pieces,

I throw an annual Gingerbread House Making Party and was looking for something to make it a little easier to bake the pieces for 10+ houses. This mold worked pretty well - here are the pros and cons:
Pros: Nicely sized houses - not too big and not too small Heavy, well made mold - it feels high quality and will last a long time Two patterns to choose from - both the "log cabin" and the "brick house" sides are cute Cons: Need 2 rounds for 1 house - the mold produces half of one house, so you need to do it twice. You can get around this like another reviewer said by using it more as a cookie cutter than a baking mold, and putting the pieces on a cookie sheet. If you're going to do this, be sure to spray the heck out of the mold and dust it liberally with flour or powdered sugar to make it easier to get the pieces out without mutilating them. That also works better if your dough is cold and stiff - so if it gets too warm as you're working it throw it back in the fridge and be patient. So, overall I think it's a great product, I just wish it had twice the pieces that it does.

I am not a regular baker and I before I bought this, I had never made a gingerbread house before. I am reviewing this from the point of view of a novice baker/gingerbread house maker. The mold came with complete instructions and a recipe for making the gingerbread which I used to make the house. The mold will make one half of a house so you need to either bake the mold twice or use it as a cookie cutter so that you have enough pieces for a complete house. I opted for the cookie cutter approach.
Overall, I thought the instructions and recipe were very easy to follow. The mold feels very sturdy and well made and I see it lasting for many many years. I did not follow their recipe for icing, I used the royal icing recipe from Joy of cooking because I felt safer using an icing recipe that heated the egg whites. We used our gingerbread house as our Christmas dinner centerpiece and then ate it after dinner. My only problems with this product are very minor. First, the instructions direct you to dust the mold in flour when you are using it as a cookie cutter so that the pieces come out easy. This didn't work for me at all. I tried spraying the mold with PAM and that worked beautifully. Second, the mold for the little gingerbread men was pretty tricky to use. They also bake a lot faster than the house pieces so if you do not watch them, they will burn on you (we decided ours were tan from a Cancun vacation). I would definitely buy this again and making the house was a lot of fun!

I just got to use it for the first time yesterday. I was pretty much satisfied. I actually made 3 gingerbread houses with this and found that it was easy to make after the second and third one. You need to make sure to put enough flour on the molding before putting the dough so that it can easily come off. However, it was hard to mold the gingerbread man.. you are better off using your own gingerbread man cookie cutters.. I ended up using my own cookie cutters (reindeer, snowman, and christmas tree) to decorate the house.
Have fun!

This mold does just what I want, lets me bypass the purchased gingerbread house kits to make my own vegan version. Lots of fun for kids.

I love to make candy houses for gifts and this mold was perfect! Light weight, does not rust, and cools quickly. The candy comes out of the mold easily and is very easy to use. Clean up is a breeze!
