Excellent,

This is by far the best children's educational book both me and my wife have read (and there have been MANY). The impact made from the activities has been amazing and the kids can't wait for the next lesson. A must have for parents with young children.

This book has you become more creative with your child and the activities are fun. It allows you to spend time with them and they remember these little ties and have something to show for it instead of sitting in front of the TV.

I am using this book as a loose curriculum for the summer for my preschooler, though it could be used for a full year of preschool. Loaded with games, crafts and ideas! I've only owned for a couple months, and it's already well worn and used! LOVE IT!

This book is a wonderful tool for teaching my preschooler. I love how each section breaks down what will be taught and how to teach the lesson. My son loves doing all the fun projects! I also use this with my preschool class at our church. Many of the lessons can be done with groups of children. I highly recommend this book!

I bought this book for our 2 year daughter. It was a little advanced for her at the time, but I was able to modify some of the activities. More importantly, it got me thinking about how to break activities down so my daughter was able to feel good about what she had done.
Now that she is 3, she loves the learning activities. There is a wide diversity of activities to keep her stimulated and engaged. This book is an excellent resource for helping to productively channel her active, eager mind and hands. It feeds on her natural curiosity and opens new doors for her to consider.

This is a great way to spend quality time with your preschooler. I love that each lesson gives a breakdown of the developmental skills that will be worked on. Watching my son do the activities is the best!

Preschool done at home,

My daughter is a year old right now, but I have begun to look at preschool curriculum for her to complete at home. I was homeschooled in elementary school and loved the experience; I want to share my love of learning with my children.
I have looked at several books and curriculum series, and this book is one that I plan on using. It has lots of great ideas, and while it will take some prep on the part of the parent, the activities are development oriented. The book is divided into themes such as sports, fall, the farm, shapes, etc, and each theme is accompanied by activites to encourage many developmental skills. All units begin with a picture book suggestion (no specific title, only a topic). The activities include letter and number recognition, a few science experiments, matching and sorting, some cooking, pre-reading and pre-writing, cutting and pasting, and many other preschool activities. There is a variety within each lesson and across the units so that you do not feel as though you are doing the same things over and over again. Rhymes and songs and games are included too, so multiple learning styles are addressed. The activities can be spread out over a week or two, depending on your child's level and attention span, or you can spend an hour or two on one day. Anyone interested in home schooling or in supplementing preschool experiences will enjoy this book.

Not Great for Kindergarten Prep.,
This review is from: Kitchen-Table Play and Learn: Activities and Lessons for Building Your Preschooler's Vital Developmental Skills (Paperback)
This is a great book to give moms a programmed way to spend time with a 3 or 4 year old preschool child. I bought this for my oldest as a substitute to paying for preschool the year before kindergarten. Now that I he is a 2nd grader, and my next oldest is just finishing at a professional preschool, I can see that the book is seriously lacking in explaining how to prepare your child for kindergarten. A good preschool will mimic kindergarten by having a routine with the children where weather, numbers, handwriting, reading, fine motor skills (cutting and gluing), large motor skills, and structured play are built in every day. Typically with stations to rotate through. The themes are added in to give meaning to each practiced skill. Each chapter in this book has themes and ideas for exploring that theme, but very little about these valuable routines or what will be expected in kindergarten.
