I've had some knife sets that have lasted a long time, but when my wife and I got married we got a lot of Kitchenaid tools for our kitchen, one of which was this knife set. The knife set really does a good job, the quality is there but I found that our knives have little rust spots on them after a few years of use. The construction however is touch, we've never bent or broken any of these knives and everything has stayed sharp. Occasionally we will sharpen the knives but for the most part we don't even think about it.

I would have liked to see these knives last longer without getting little rust spots, but overall they held up for a few years and for the price I don't think you can beat the quality. Our knives are approx 4 years old.

I was looking for a reasonably priced knife set for everyday use and liked the look of this one. The price was right so I snagged it, and was very impressed with what I received.

First of all, the block is sturdy and appropriately sized. I've purchased sets before where the tips of the knives came out the bottom of the block, which isn't exactly good for the knives or the counter, so this was big plus for me.

The blades themselves are stainless steal. They polish up nicely and hold a sharp edge. They are not dishwasher safe; but stainless steal never is. I just wanted to throw that out there for those of you who might not be aware.

I knew that the handles were plastic, but I honestly expected them to be chincier. The plastic is smooth, solid and well weighted. My husband's a chef and only uses knives where the steal runs the length of the knife, making up the backbone of the handle. I got these because using his is stressful; he's very particular about their care. But even he agrees that these are decent, and thought I'd paid more than I did.

I think this is a great set and well worth the price.

I bought these on sale from the local grocery store, damaged box only. A great deal at $20.

The knives are really sharp, I know these are only cheap compared to how much you could spend on knives but a good 'intro' set for the beginner. I'd only ever had hand me downs or walmart sets before and the difference with sharp knives when cooking is amazing!

Much more enjoyable.

I've never had a problem with any Kitchenaid product, they are usually built well and good value.

These do rust easily though however someone in our household, who shall remain nameless, did put some of them in the dishwasher and they are the ones that have rusted a little.

Handwash only!

I didn't want to "skimp" on knives like I had in the past, but since they were Kitchenaid and only $30 I figured it wouldn't be the end of the world. I really love these knives! They slice as good as my mother's $200 set. (They cut through chicken like butter!) And if rust does become an issue, Old Dutch or Vim remove it easily. I highly recommend these knives to anyone that does a lot of cooking and doesn't want to spend a fortune. Enjoy!

*** UPDATE: after two months of owning these knives and with proper care, 3 of the knives started to have rust spots. I contacted KitchenAid and, after a few e-mail exchanges + photographs, they sent me an entirely new set. I appreciated their customer service, particularly because I bought the knives from Gilt.com -- not directly through them.

First and foremost, I bought this same set in black not from Amazon, but from a flash deal site after our Chicago Cutlery set was destroyed by our dog chewing on the handles of the knives (yes, you read that correctly -- ugh, don't ask!).

What I enjoy most about this set is its versatility: there are several different types of knives, a set of kitchen shears for chicken/etc, and also a sharpening steel. If you're looking for more steak knives, KitchenAid also makes a 16 piece set that features a longer row on the bottom filled with more steak knives. For me, though, four is the perfect amount. Additionally, it comes with a little sheet that tells you how to best use each knife. Could I look this up online? Yes, certainly, but I appreciated having this in the box as it's easy to reference and, for someone who doesn't know much about what knife goes with what in terms of food prep, it was extremely helpful.

The knives themselves are sturdy and I very much like that their handles are smooth, yet strong. With our Chicago Cutlery set, we had strictly wooden handles and, over time, they did become rougher to the touch. I prefer these and I don't see anything wrong with the handles, unlike some reviews that I've read on Amazon.

I'm quite pleased with this set. I cook frequently, but I'm not a gourmet chef -- I was primarily looking for a set of decently-priced knives that would last several years.

I purchased this KitchenAid set of knives the Jan, 2015. All was good would have given a 5 star review before now .Today the chef knife handle broke in half while cutting a Dairy Queen Ice cream birthday cake. This took less force than cutting a block of cheese. The metal shaft appeared to be off center and closer to the handle surface on one side.

I have not contacted KitchenAid or the seller yet and will post the results of contacting them.
