The price does not reflect the quality of the actual product. This is one of the best values in cutley I've ever seen. I own sets that have cost me alot more $$, but NOT of the same quality for the money that I have spent. The edge retention of the steel, as well as the fit and finsh make this set worth every penny invested. If you want a set of cutlery that will withstand daily/home use and continue to give the expected performace you can rely on, this is the answer. On the other hand, if you want "trophy/display" cutlery, keep looking.. and be prepared to spend alot more. If my set were lost, damaged, or stolen today, I would be back on the Net tomorrow reordering this same thing. Even though cutlery/knife storage blocks are usually a sidebar to the sets themselves, this one is well thought out. With the knife slots in a horizontal, instead of the typical vertical position, removal and reinsertion of the knives are somewhat easier and appear to have less of a dragging/dulling effect on the cutting edges. The quality of the wood and the attention to detail make the block worth what I've spent on the entire package (cutlery and block). GJM
No wonder they were so cheap!
The lack full tang steak knives are not a big deal and the block is not great, but for these knives are well worth the money.
They are RAZOR sharp when you take them out of the box so be very careful!
The only con I would add is that they are made in CHINA! Boo!

I purchased this set back in 2006, it is now 2016 and I can say that while the set shows wear, it has survived my husband and teen son using them on cutting down large meat... Read morePublished 13 days ago by GiGi
Bought this many years ago. The knives are still sharp, even though I put them in the dishwasher. I love this set.Published 11 months ago by halfeyes21
This was my first knife set, so quite good for a starter kitchen. However, if you cook regularly, I would get frustrated because these knives don't stay sharp for very long. Read morePublished 17 months ago by Rhea
I bought these for mothers day 4 years ago and they're still used today, every day. They are great quality and come with a steeler to keep them sharp as original. Read morePublished on January 11, 2013 by Harrison Stamathis

KitchenAid should not have their name on this product. They are not dishwasher safe, and who wants to wash every knife by hand? Read morePublished on April 4, 2008 by Steve Kelley

Like several posters have mentioned, these are a great, inexpensive, stylish set.
I give it 4/5 because the steak knives are not one piece knives.
