My wife and I had a home built in May of 2013 and we chose to have Kitchenaid stainless steel appliances installed. This microwave was the only option in that package. We have the microwave installed above our oven, in the cabinet wall. It makes it look like we have a double oven.

On the outside and inside, this microwave is all stainless steel and high quality. It is very easy to clean as long as you take proper care of it. I use a specially designed cleaner/polisher that was sold to me by an appliance company that puts almost like a wax layer on the metal so it repels fingerprints and food particles.

The touch panel is very responsibe. The buttons include: Quick Touch cooking (popcorn, baked potato meal reheat), and Meal Prep (Reheat, Cook, Defrost), plus standard buttons like Cook Time, Power, Select, Keep Warm, Add a Minute, and of course Start and Cancel. My household enjoys popcorn, so we frequently use the popcorn button and it makes perfect popcorn all the time. We have never used the baked potato button, and the meal reheat always seems to over-reheat the food.

The main way to add time to the microwave is by turning the knob. This is both helpful and irritating. I am used to having a microwave that allows you to type the cook time, but with this you have to spin a knob. The knob starts off as increments of 5 seconds, then 15 seconds, 30 seconds, etc. The longer you cook your food, the higher the increments go. After 6 minutes, the increments are by minutes. So, if you want to cook your food for 6 minutes and 20 seconds, you have to turn the dial when it gets down to 5 minutes and 40 seconds. Very frustrating!

Also, I hate the reheat, cook, and defrost options. The "codes" are inside the door.

We purchased this product in Dec of 2013 and it has stopped worked twice - command module shorts out. We did not buy this from Amazon but rather a local dealer who has refused to honor our three year extended warranty. We went to a local repair company and they told us that this product is known to have major problems - it would cost about $500 to fix it and most likely would happen again. We were advised to buy a different unit so we purchased at Amazon a Bosch unit. In the year an half of owning the Kitchenaid unit it was only in service about 8 months. As the first reviewer noted, it is a reasonble unit when it worked and we loved the broil feature. But cleaning the glass touch screen was always a problem in that it would go ballistic - we learned to turn the ciruit breaker off in order to clean the screen - what a hassle. We really like our Bosch much better and I will be writing a review on it once we have used it for awhile.

This is a high quality microwave that is not your typical "Made in China" swing open unit. This Swedish made model looks and feels much sturdier than its competitors. I've had mine for seven trouble-free years. The 'standard' unit it replaced last half that long. The only issue I've run into is a burned out automotive style glass fuse five years in that was easily replaced by sliding the unit out to access the fuse on top. The dial timer is a little different at first but you get used to it quickly. It cooks food nicely and has a built-in turntable. It is truly a built-in microwave and looks more like a conventional oven vs. a big box microwave bolted above your range.
