Easy to use and clean up.

This grinder will not break down all the "chunks" of bean to produce an even fine grind.

This is the best coffee grinder I have ever owned. It is powerful...which makes the grinding go quickly. I have always had a mess with grinders as you transfer the grounds to the lid to then put in the coffeemaker. Then, when you put the lid back on, big mess! This one, the grinding "cup" just lifts out...the lid never gets grounds in it. Fantastic! It's also large enough to grind enough beans for a full 12-cup batch of coffee...and I drink strong coffee so I use a lot of beans. Seriously, best ever.

This is the best dry grinder that I've ever owned. It is very attractive, compact, well designed & does the job. The cup can be removed to empty the ground item, and can be put in the dishwasher. This is a big plus. Also, the cup is much larger than the other spice mills that I've had.
I use this grinder to grind spices, flax and black sesame, and it does a great job with each and every one of these. The plastic grinders are unsafe, since over time the plastic is damaged (gets cloudy) by the hard coffee bean and spices, and particles of plastic is getting in your food.
I searched for a stainless steel grinding bowl for safety reasons, and found this. This is a little gem. I only wish that kitchenaid sells extra cups.

Let me begin with a confession: I'm not a coffee goar-may. I don't ask much of my coffeemaker and grinder beyond a good cuppa in the morning.

Having said that, I do grind my own beans daily. I've owned the Krups unit for several years. It was reliable and easy to use. I was happy with it. It was happy with me. We raised our cups of coffee together. But as we advanced together beyond what could be comfortably called middle age, I got an itch for a nice little grinder with more pizazz. My relationship with the reliable little Krups got stale.

I picked up this little KitchenAid unit up on a website. KitchenAid looked hot, in tune with the times, and built like she could deliver. And boy, can she deliver. One of the things I like about her is she's quiet. If you have company sleeping in, there's no racket to embarrass you and rouse the guests sleepy-eyed and groggy out of the guest bedroom wondering if someone is getting killed. Krups was a screamer.

And trust me, KitchenAid has all the moves down. If you push the right button, she'll grind your beans to a state of perfection.

No, Krups and I are finished. It is so over. She gave me the best years of her life, but all good things must end. I hope she can find a new home. I don't have a single pang of regret that KitchenAid has moved in, and my beans have never been in better shape.

I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this coffee mill. Even the expensive brands seemed to have poor reviews and the two main complaints in those reviews (not grinding all the beans and leaving chunks, and being too messy because there was not a removable cup) are NOT an issue with this model as far as I can tell. I've owned this about three weeks and couldn't be more pleased, in fact it exceeded every expectation. When I saw the blades for the first time, I assumed it was going to also leave some chucks of unground beans in the receptacle. Never has it done that. The grind is perfectly even and fine. I was also surprised that it is relatively quiet when grinding. This unit is VERY easy to clean and not messy because the receptacle lifts out and you empty that into the coffee filter rather than turning over the whole unit. Plus, both the grinding receptacle and the lid can be washed so you could easily switch from grinding coffee beans one day to grinding some peppercorns the next. You could never do that with a coffee grinder that didn't have a lift-out receptacle that you could throw in the dishwasher because there would be residual flavor in the receptacle. I have not tried grinding spices with it, but judging on how well it works with whole coffee beans I think it would do fine. I expected to like this unit, but thought I would have some of the same issues that other folks had experienced like the receptacle being somewhat difficult to lift out, or the lid getting covered with grounds. Honestly, each time I have used it the receptacle has been a piece of cake to lift out, I've had zero trouble with that. And even when I fill the receptacle full to grind a lot of beans I have yet to get the clear lid dirty with grinds.Read more ›

I bought mine on amazon and it works just fine. All the frustration in other reviews indicates people don't know how to use it. First, the name of the item is "coffee grinder". It is not a pepper grinder and it is not a nut grinder and it is not a spice grinder, so don't use it as such. Second, it is a spinning blade grinder. It is not a burr grinder so it will not produce perfectly uniform grinds and it is not suitable for expresso. If you want good expresso you have to spend at least $250 on a high quality burr grinder, or around $50 on a low quality burr grinder that also does not produce uniform grinds and replace it every few months. Coffee grinds shooting out the top? You put too much in! This grinder works just fine for for drip, perc, pour over and french press coffee. You don't need perfectly uniform grinds within a batch; you just need repeatable batches and spinning blade grinders are fine for that.
