4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy for the occasional chef
I bought this for mother's day for my mother, a breast cancer survivor (6 years in 2007), despite the fact that my father does most of the cooking. About six months later, I visited them and made them a gourmet meal with these knives. I was shocked (pleasantly) when my dad said that their ceramic sharpener had broken, and they hadn't replaced it in over a year... so six...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cook For The Cure?
Having bought EVERY pink item in the last several months. I was dismayed to discover that none of the money was going to CFTC just because I had bought them. Seems that in VERY small print on the hang tag, there is a disclaimer. You have to go online and register the product. Only then will KitchenAid fork over the Money...... Yes for something as small as a set of...

I bought this for mother's day for my mother, a breast cancer survivor (6 years in 2007), despite the fact that my father does most of the cooking. About six months later, I visited them and made them a gourmet meal with these knives. I was shocked (pleasantly) when my dad said that their ceramic sharpener had broken, and they hadn't replaced it in over a year... so six months later, and these knives still were quite sharp. While they aren't the same quality of my normal wustoff knives, they certainly do the job "in a pinch". If you don't do a lot of cooking, but want to have something better than a box-store $10 butter knife, something along these lines will do perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Set of Knives, January 27, 2008
By
This review is from: KitchenAid Cook For The Cure 5-Piece Cutlery Prep Set, Pink (Kitchen)
This is a great set of basic prep knives. The size and weight are perfect for me because my hands are somewhat small and the grips seem to be just right for petite hands. The textured grips provide an added measure of support. Blades are sharp and do the job well.

These are very good knives. They are sharp and are of good construction. As a bonus they are pretty and look great on the counter.

4.0 out of 5 stars very satisfied, March 31, 2008

I've only used the knives a couple of times as I'm saving them for when I move into a new place, however when I have used them I've been impressed. The only thing is they are a little smaller than I imagined; however, this works for me because I have small hands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice set of knives, August 11, 2008

I got this set as a birthday gift and have had them for nine months. They are very nice and sharp and of course the color is awesome. One word of caution though, do not leave them sitting in or near water for any length of time. I left the largest knife in the sink with some other dirty dishes for two days and there were four little rust spots tha popped up on the blade. Some steel wool took care of it but now I make sure the wash and dry them as soon as I finish using them. The serated edge knife is hard to wash - the teeth bite into the scrubber I use. I wish the teeth were not so close together but it is a great knife for bread. Other than that I love these - I have almost the whole KitchenAid/Cuisinart pink collection. This is one of the better items.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Basic Set of Knives, March 31, 2009

I did a lot of research before I bought a knife set, and the KitchenAid knives seemed to have the best "bang for the buck." I will say that if you're looking for a "do-it-all" set of knives, this isn't it...BUT if you don't require the perfect knife for every job or have very little space for a larger knife set, this is a great little set. We've been using these knives for a little over a month now. I was thoroughly impressed with these knives from the moment we took them out of the box. I had only had a cheap set we had gotten for our wedding YEARS ago. While they still "worked," the blades were flimsy and flexible and starting to show their age (rusting, spots, etc). Wanting a good set that didn't break the bank, I decided to try these our because they had some of the basic knives of the larger set, but didn't have the high price of the full-sized set. I wasn't willing to spend the money on the larger set without trying them out first...which led me to purchase this set.

I love the weight of the knives. They're much heavier than my cheap [who knows what brand they are] knives, without being too heavy and awkward to use. The blades are not flimsy and cut through whatever I tried with little problem. The handles were very comfortable...although time will tell if the silicone handles hold up to use and washing. I have not put these into the dishwasher...as the care instructions suggest hand-washing, so I don't know how they react to that process. The block is also sturdy and looks very nice on my counter.

The only problems I have encountered so far is that I have had a bit of "water" spotting on the blades, mainly because I got distracted and didn't wash them right away after use...as will happen with most people from time to time. The bread knife was also a bit difficult to wash as it kept wanting to tear whatever I used to wash it (sponge, scrubby-pad, cloth). But I have had similar problems with other serrated knives...these serrations are deeper, so I would naturally assume that washing them would be a little more difficult. However, these problems are not worth giving this little set less than 5 stars.

Like I said, this set is not meant to be a full set for the gourmet kitchen, but a basic utility set for someone who doesn't need the perfect knife for every job, or doesn't have a lot of space for the larger knife block. For the price, the quality is akin to the more expensive knife sets. After purchasing this set, I'm definitely ready to invest the money in the larger set. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to find the larger set in pink. :-)

I got this set for Christmas from my mother-in-law a few Christmases ago, and I really like the set. I only wish it was a bigger set. But the knives are easy to sharpen (I like mine very sharp), and the chef's knife is perfect for a lot of chopping tasks. Overall great just wish there were more. I have used them almost everyday for about 2 years now and haven't had any problems with them at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Equipment for A Great Cause!!!!, February 8, 2009

I love this set of Knives!!, Not only are they pink but they are very well balanced. Now although they could have been sharper for my tastes right out of the box(easily fixed) they were sharp enough to use right away, hard cheese, steaks, prep work, a snap!! And the block has a nice weight to it. The button on the block is stainless steel that is secured very well. I do want to say this about a previous review!!
SO WHAT you have to register every thing you buy for the CFTC benefit, how are they gonna keep track of the items sold, I mean all you have to do is go to a web site, So please every one remember to keep your tags and boxes till you do. Think of every one you love that CAN be afflicted with this disease.
