Since there isn't a photo of this food tray, I'll first describe it to you. It's made from the same white plastic that the rest of the kitchenaid attachements are made from. It's about 10 inches long, The same width as the food grinder tray. The lip is about an inch deep. It slides over the top of the food grinder tray providing a pretty good fit. It's not a water...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I was expecting
It works fine except that the juices from the tomatoes leak out. Good for dry things but not for juicy items.

It's not a water tight fit however.

The tray is nice when you are laddling in things to be ground up. It helps keep the items from falling into the bowl of already ground up stuff. If you are into large batches of apple sauce or meat, its worth getting.

If you are grinding a soup up it keeps the splatter out but the seal with the food grinder is not water tight, so you can't really overload it.

I like it, its well made, if you are a careful cook you can live without it. If you are looking for a gift for a cook who has it all, it would be a good present.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for big jobs, March 20, 2002

This tray makes big jobs easier. You can get by with the smaller one that comes with the grinder, but if you're gonna be making large quantities, save yourself some stress and buy this tray, it helps a lot.

I need this for the attatchments for my "KitchenAid" mixer, but it gets three stars mostly because of price, too expensive. It could be deeper and wider as well. Canning tomato juice and paste for a family of eight requires bigger. For such a powerful mixer, the attatchments are under-sized.

3.0 out of 5 stars Really nice but leaks, September 24, 2008

This is a great attachment if you are going to process sloppy items through the grinder or fruit and vegetable strainer. The only down side is if the item is really juicy, it may leak between the seams. I used this for making fruit nectar/juice and processing tomatoese and it did great but I had to keep a towel handy to keep things from getting to messy. The leaking was minor but enough that with the juice being hot, it could have gotten out of hand, however I couldn't have gotten the canning done without this attachment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sloppy Fit but necessary item, April 9, 2010

If you're going to use your Kitchenaid strainer attachment (KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder for Stand Mixers) for anything more than a cupful of food at a time, you'll need this attachment too. However, it is seriously flawed and there isn't much you can do about it but put up with it because you really need this part.

Frankly, this food tray should be built into the fruit & veg strainer attachment hopper and not a separate item. Because it's separate, if you don't have the tray shoved firmly against the hopper of the strainer you will have liquid leaking out and down the head of your mixer. You have to constantly keep alert so the easily bumped out of position tray doesn't cause problems. It's a poor design overall, but better than nothing.

If you're going to to the trouble of setting up the fruit & veg strainer you're probably going to process a bushel of tomatoes or a pot of cooked apples into sauce, right? Messy jobs, and this design of separate parts is bound to make the job even messier.

I am not at all impressed with the Kitchenaid system for fruit & veg strainers. I used an Oster mixer for 30 years, with all its many attachments, until the plastic parts just fatigued out. The Oster's strainer system was far superior in capacity and simplicity. But I do like my new Kitchenaid mixer better... just wish the fruit & veg strainer system could be sent back to the drawing board.

I'm seriously considering using aquarium grade silicone glue or something to permanently attach the tray to the FVSFGA hopper.

5.0 out of 5 stars KitchenAid Food Tray Attachment for Stand Mixer, September 27, 2009

This is really a must have for anything you want to do with the KitchenAid regarding grinding meats/making sausage or with the strainer attachment for fruits and vegetables. The food tray that comes built into the grinder simply is too small to accommodate any quantity of product and leads only to frustration. The food tray comes in the usual excellent KitchenAid quality: durable, easy to use and easy to clean. I have avoided making tomato juice for years. But with the combination of a juicer/steamer and the KitchenAid grinder/strainer with the food tray attachment it is very efficient.

This is a must if you have the KitchenAid Fruit/Veggie Strainer and Food Grinder attachment. The tray simply slides on top of the strainer attachment and provides a larger area to pour in whatever fruit or vegetable you are working with.

I bought this along with the sausage stuffer attachment to use with the food grinder that I already had. It is easy to slide on to the grinder tray and helps with large batches of food going into the grinder/stuffer. It's not a must have, hence only four stars, but it does what it is supposed to do.

I bought this because I make a lot of tomatoe juice and I wanted to separate the skins and seeds from the juice. The juice leaked all over where the tray connected to the smaller tray. I wish the connection had a tighter seal.
