5.0 out of 5 stars A great budget roasting pan!
I snagged this pan a week before Thanksgiving after searching at Target and other big stores. I needed something that included the roasting rack, as well as handles, but was non-stick and reasonably thick, as I didn't want a messy cleanup job, nor did I want the pan warping in the hot oven. I also wanted some sort of "lifters," that I could use to lift and turn the bird...

2.0 out of 5 stars Size not as indicated
Just received this pan. It looks great and feels like a high quality pan, especially for the price. I tried to ascertain the exact pan size from both Amazon customer service and KitchenAid customer service BEFORE ordering it. I was told by KitchenAid that it was 19" long. I measured the pan - it is only 15 1/2" long. I am very disappointed. Will most likely return...

2.0 out of 5 stars For serious cooking - Keep Looking, February 22, 2009
This review is from: KitchenAid Flat Floating Rack Roaster with Lifters (Kitchen)
There are few-if any-good roasting pans to be had in this price range.

I've used this pan but 8-9 times for chicken, turkey, roast beef, and for roasted potatoes. Unlike most others, when the rack is inserted it is suspended above the pan bottom so as to not scratch the coating. The coatings on pan & rack are effective as both clean up easily after use.

The main issue to be addressed is whether the coating integrity will pass the Pan Gravy Test: Regrettably it didn't. I made pan gravy in it on the stove-top four times, and the coating degraded with each event, until it no longer made sense to keep the pan. How much Teflon would you want in your diet?

Since then I locally purchased a stainless triple clad roasting pan(much like the Cuisinart MCP117-16BR)sold under the house name of our local Wegman's grocery chain. I've used the new one for roasting both beef and turkey, along with the appurtenant pan-gravy exercises. The pan performs brilliantly and (thankfully)it cleans up easily. The lesson here: spend a few extra dollars and get a pan that'll last a lifetime.

I snagged this pan a week before Thanksgiving after searching at Target and other big stores. I needed something that included the roasting rack, as well as handles, but was non-stick and reasonably thick, as I didn't want a messy cleanup job, nor did I want the pan warping in the hot oven. I also wanted some sort of "lifters," that I could use to lift and turn the bird (or ham) if needed, that weren't flimsy, and would last over time.

When I received the product, it was boxed properly with no exterior damage, it wasn't in a fancy box or anything of that sort, simply a pan, the rack insert, and one set of 2 lifters. The pan was a good non-stick surface, as was the rack, and the rack sits down on these solid notches so it isn't in *direct* contact with the pan bottom--another plus, for me at least.

Turkey day came and the bird was prepped, along with the oven preheated, and this pan was put to its first use, and one and only test. It was my first oven bird, so it was a bit of a test for both of us.

To make a long review short, the pan, rack and lifters made Thanksgiving preparation so much easier, with a lot less cleanup than was expected! I originally gave the product 4 stars, but while writing the review, bumped it up to 5. I now remember that I didn't just use the pan for turkey--I've used it for a ham, as well as cornish hens. Cleanup is a breeze with the non-stick surface, and the lifters don't have to be used for just this pan. I've used the lifters while smoking meats outside, like pork loin and brisket (they're perfect for getting "under" meats easily, while not poking holes or potentially tearing the meat), without issue.

Overall, the pan is well worth the (what I think to be) small price tag. 5 stars!

3.0 out of 5 stars Non-stick? I think not., December 23, 2009

I've had this pan for a few years, and have generally found it to be a serviceable roasting pan.

However, this year the non-stick interior coating (which has been babied - no aggressive scrubbing) has ceased its function. After an overnight soak and 30 minutes' scrubbing, we've decided to donate it to Goodwill and invest in something more durable.

I didn't really need another roaster but this one has a couple of great features. First, it's non-stick and cleans up in a jiffy. Second is its unique rack mounting scheme. Most racks have feet that sit on the floor of the pan. This one sits on rivets that are near the handles, on the side. That means no scratching. The rack is flat and not a V-shape, so your roast won't be marked as deeply as a v-rach does and the roast sits lower, meaning it takes less height in the oven. The downside of the flat bottom is that the v-racks hold a roast still, so it can be positioned on its side.

Very well built.

The one negative is that the loop handles for the rack stick out. They look like handles and I could see lifting the whole pan by these handles in a moment of inattention, which would be a serious error, likely to result in a hot, messy spill. So pay attention -- those loops go to just the rack, not to the pan!

The stick-out loops have another liability: They mean the pan won't fit my smallish 17"-wide oven. Happily, the pan does fit diagonally.

Purchased as a gift for my mother-in-law. She only wishes the pan was a little deeper, but other than that everything is great.

This roasting pan was perfect for the fresh Thanksgiving turkey I prepared for my family. It was just the right size, and the lifters made handling the large bird easy. I would definitely recommend this item.

I haven't used this pan yet but it is a very sturdy quality looking product. Besides the lift out tray, it even came with two large prong forks to lift the roast or bird. Very nice!
