5.0 out of 5 stars An extra bowl is a great idea
Having an extra bowl (or two) is a good thing. So many recipes call for beaten egg yolks and whipped egg whites to be folded together. Without two bowls you have to take the time to pour the one you whip first into another bowl, clean the Kitchenaid bowl, and then whip the next ingredient.

3.0 out of 5 stars Handle not as good as the 5 qt bowl; broke off
I bought this as a spare bowl and have had it for about 2 years. Recently while removing it from the mixer with cake batter in it, the top of the handle suddenly broke off from the body. Luckily I didn't end up with cake batter all over my feet but it was a close call! I called KA Customer service to see if the warranty covers this, but was told that the warranty on the...

Having an extra bowl (or two) is a good thing. So many recipes call for beaten egg yolks and whipped egg whites to be folded together. Without two bowls you have to take the time to pour the one you whip first into another bowl, clean the Kitchenaid bowl, and then whip the next ingredient.

I often make a couple of batches of bread at once. The extra bowl allows me to mix the batches of bread and leave them rise right in the Kitchenaid bowls.

Some cakes have a separate filling and a frosting. Two bowls makes that "a piece if cake."

The handle is especially good when the bowl is wet or greasy.

I cook a lot. The extra bowl I have is well worth the price. I'll be buying another (3rd bowl) soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a spare bowl, what more can you say?, March 7, 2003

If you already own a kitchenaid mixer, you know what this bowl looks like. (If you don't own a kitchenaid mixer, why are you ordering this?)

If you're considering this versus the 3 quart spare bowl: the 3-quart nests in the original 4.5 bowl that comes with the mixer, which this one doesn't. This one has a handle though, which matters more than you may think when you're twisting the bowl out of the socket.

If you're considering this for storage, consider also the plastic storage lid, also available from Amazon[.com]. (They conveniently come two to a package).

5.0 out of 5 stars kitchen-aide extra mixing bowl, January 18, 2008

This was exactly what I was looking for, an extra mixing bowl with handle for our classic Kitchen-aide mixer. It's a well made stainless bowl that should last a long time. I wasn't sure when I ordered this if it would be the right bowl to fit our mixer. Pivot head mixer threw me off as that is not mentioned when you look at the different mixers. But it does screw into the base of our classic mixer.

I needed a bowl, and gosh darn it, this fit the bill nicely. An added bonus: makes a great piece of headwear in a pinch.

5.0 out of 5 stars What could more helpful?, November 13, 2001

When you are cooking, and in a bit of a time crunch the extra bowl can be so helpful. I use mine when I am making cookies, sometimes I make two different kinds at once, and I am good to go. Or when I am making a cake, and I want to prepare everything at once, and come back and frost the cake later. I hate to stop what I am doing to wash one bowl to use it again. If you do a lot of cooking and you are short on time this might be a good purchase for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice as an extra, December 13, 2005

This is a smaller size bowl than the 5 qt. one that came with the mixer...it's a good extra bowl for making icing, or some other smaller portion. However, I"m not sure why Kitchenaid made the handle so flat and uncomfortable...my 5 qt. bowl has a rounded/contoured handle that fits well in your hand, so it doesn't make sense that the smaller bowl would have such a silly little handle...

I bought this as a spare bowl and have had it for about 2 years. Recently while removing it from the mixer with cake batter in it, the top of the handle suddenly broke off from the body. Luckily I didn't end up with cake batter all over my feet but it was a close call! I called KA Customer service to see if the warranty covers this, but was told that the warranty on the bowls is only 1 year (as it is on the mixers) so I'm out of luck. There's no way to reattach the top of the handle, so I'll be replacing this bowl with the 5 qt model which has a more substantial, more comfortable, and hopefully better-attached handle. But I wouldn't buy this one again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I hoped It Would Be!, June 5, 2010

For several years I've been thinking how much easier it would be to pour cake batter, etc. from my Kitchen Aid mixer bowl -- if only it had a handle. Well, I decided to order one. It arrived on time in great condition! I have already made a birthday cake with it and pouring batter was almost fun. :-)

I have had a KitchenAid mixer for over 25 years. It is a wonderful machine, well made, versatile and easy to clean. The only flaw was the bowl, which is sometimes hard to handle when it is full. With the addition of this handled bowl, this product is about as perfect as a mixer can get. While the cost may seem a bit pricey, Amazon had the best price (it was $49.99 at Best Buy) and the bowl is well made and SO much easier to use and pour with a handle. Just be sure you match this accessory to your mixer model number. There are at least two different model sizes, and there is a handled bowl that fits each of them. You can call Kitchenaid and ask; they will gladly tell you the part number.

This is a very nice bowl. It works perfectly with my Artisan mixer. Very fast shipping with Amazon Prime and it was well packaged, not damaged at all. Great bowl for the money :-)
