5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic price, EXCELLENT kitchen appliance!
I finally decided to take the plunge and buy this item when the price dropped to $115 and shipped for free. "You cannot beat that deal, on this mixer!"

2.0 out of 5 stars Performance not as expected
I bought this KitchenAid mixer because I expected a quality machine that would be a lifetime investment. However, it quit working after a year and a half of minimal use. I have sent it to the factory for repairs and I don't know the exact problem, except when I turned it on, it would make a strange noise and the blades would not turn. Since it has only a one-year...

I finally decided to take the plunge and buy this item when the price dropped to $115 and shipped for free. "You cannot beat that deal, on this mixer!"

The mixer itself is HEAVY and not exactly something that you can easily take on and off the kitchen counter and store in any cabinet. Check out the dimensions and make sure you have room for it... or make room; like I've had to do.

When using the mixer you really don't need to even scrape the sides of the mixing bowl. Good thing... there's not much room to do it! The bowl and the mixing device (whisk, dough hook, and beater are all included) both lock easily into place and the instruction book is very straight forward and has several recipies for you to try.

Using this mixer makes me realize what I've been missing. It's got power, and with all of the available attachments it's versatile too. The design is superior and the price is right.

Bottom line: BUY THIS ONE!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why pay more?, May 19, 2005

It's built like a tank, could last forever and cost $119 (well it did when I wrote this in 2005). Other than a shovel or a hammer, I can't think of anything else this inexpensive I could pass on to my children. Sure, you could pay more to get this with a larger bowl or a designer color, but why bother?
Once you start using this mixer, you will wonder how you did without it. It makes an excellent gift for anyone who cooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very versatile appliance, June 15, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid K45WSSWH Classic Series 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer with Spatula, White (Kitchen)
This is, without a doubt, one of the best things I have ever purchased in my whole life. The price is unbeatable. With the Amazon promotion code, was $114 and free shipping. You can't beat that. Now I see they are offering it for just 99 dollars!!! It's a no brainer! Was shipped and received on time, very well protected.
You need to have a space to put the mixer, since it's really heavy and not too easy to take on and off constantly. The instructions book is very clear. Once I had the mixer with me, I used it right away. The results have been more than satisfactory. The speeds work beautifully with any kind of mix, the three attachments are the most important to have, from my point of view. Maybe other useful attachment would be the pouring shield. Usually we use it to mix batches of cookies, cakes and pies. What's wonderful is the mixing bowl has a coating that allows al mixes to slip without scraping the bowl. Certainly the bowl could use a handle, but it's not really necessary if you know how to work with your hands. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I ever thought it would be!, June 28, 2005

I had been looking at KitchenAid mixers for many years, and just balked because of the prices. When my husband needed "just four more dollars" to get the free shipping here at Amazon.com... guess what got added to the shopping cart?!

I won't repeat the reviews already written; I agree with them. The mixer is heavy, sturdy, seemingly indestructible. For $114, it was impossible to pass up.

When my mixer arrived, the bowl was not ssecured to the base, so the "neck" and base of the mixer itself had two worn, silver spots (one at the top rim of the bowl, one at the base of the bowl). Of course, this won't change the mixer's performance, but I was a little disappointed that it wasn't "perfect", and wondered for a moment if it was a factory second (due to damage).

When I began to make my first batch of cookie dough in the mixer, I was absoloutely fascinated and amazed at how quickly and smoothly it creamed the butter/sugar and incorporated the flour. I did not need to scrape the sides of the bowl by hand, even though the flat beater doesn't actually touch the sides of the bowl.

The only issues I have found so far: it is a little tricky to add ingredients (flour) to the bowl while the mixer is running, since there is little clearance between the edge of the bowl and the mixer head (probably why they made the pouring shield), and this is extremely picky - the flat beater head can maintain a tiny pile of flour on its' flat top edge, even while the mixer is running (this is very minor, but just an observation).

The recipes in the instruction manual are a great introduction to the mixer's functions; it tells you when to add each ingredient, which speed the mixer needs to be on for each, and for how long.

I actually did not believe I needed a stand mixer until I used this one! Now I can not imaging going back to my little underpowered hand-held toy-like mixer! I hope my mixer lives up to KitchenAid's reputation of quality for many years to come. So far, so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars This item will outlast you, your husband/wife, and probably even your kids..., July 14, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid K45WSSWH Classic Series 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer with Spatula, White (Kitchen)
This is one sturdy machine. I inherited mine about 20 yrs ago from my aunt, who had used hers forever before I got it. Mine doesn't have the splash guard, but it has everything else and looks the same as this model, even though it was made long ago. I guess they're smart enough at KitchenAid to not mess with a good thing.

My mixer has been used countless times for everything from meringues to ganache and it has never let me down. The thing will outlast all of us, and possibly inherit the earth along with the roaches at some point. :) OK, perhaps that's a slight exaggeration. :)

I take exception with the Product Reviewer's idea that this is not a machine you'll want to wipe off and put away. I have done that with mine every time I've used it, it may weigh a few lbs., but how long are you lifting it, like 10 seconds? I think it's doable, and it keeps it from cluttering up my counter tops and I think it keeps it nicely over the years, too, rather than having it sitting out on a counter top to be exposed to kitchen oils, sprays in the air, dust, etc. So don't think you need to have a huge kitchen, just store it like you do any other appliance you do not use on a daily basis, clean it well after each use, and it will last, seemingly, forever.

This price right now of $119.00 + Free Shipping is unbeatable. I just purchased 2 of them at this price, one as a wedding gift for a wedding that's still months away, and one for my daughter the newlywed, because I know I won't find it at this price again anytime soon. If you're looking to get one at some point, I'd grab it now, I don't know when you'll find a price this low again on an item that will outlast your car.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Question Answered, June 9, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid K45WSSWH Classic Series 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer with Spatula, White (Kitchen)
Very interested in this mixer, but I wondered how it differed from the K45SS, which seemed the same except for the price. So I inquired at KitchenAid.com; it seems the two are identical, except that the K45WSSWH was made for Walmart and includes an extra spatula. Same mixer, added accessory, lower price = 1 on order.

After getting frustrated creaming butter and sugar with a hand mixer (it just takes the fun out of baking!!), I started price shopping for a stand mixer. I looked at Kitchenaid first because my mother has had one for over 20 years and it's a tank. When I saw the price on this one at so far below retail, plus the extra cash off for the promotion, I couldn't resist (and linked it at techbargains for everyone to share! ;) ).

I made my first batch of cookies on it last night and am very pleased, it's so easy to use. I hardly had to scrape the bowl at all, the mixer is so efficient at getting everything. This model is a tilt-head, not a bowl-lift, but the bowl turns clockwise and locks in very securely. The coating on the beater helps sticky ingredients to scrape off fairly easily, and the included spatula is quite nice. As other reviewers have noted its pretty quiet as well. The pouring shield I don't really care about, it's easy enough for me to add ingredients from the side, but I wish that the bowl had a handle, it's a little hard to manage without it.

This is a great mixer for a phenominal price! It'll really put the fun back into your baking/mixing and let you focus on the result instead of the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best!, June 19, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid K45WSSWH Classic Series 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer with Spatula, White (Kitchen)
I have had my Kitchenaid mixer for about 3 years now. I love it so much that when we recently updated our kitchen we bought a Kitchenaid dishwasher too. This mixer is the best money I have ever spent. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone and everyone! You don't know how useful it really is until you own it. I can't imagine my kitchen with out it! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Update it is now April 2009 and my mixer is still going strong. Made bread last night using it. I still say this is the best thing ever!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get better than this, June 20, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid K45WSSWH Classic Series 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer with Spatula, White (Kitchen)
This mixer sells for $200 just about everywhere. If you see it here for less go for it! This is the ultimate kitchen helper -- you'll never mix by hand again. I'm much more inclined to bake homemade cookies and whip cream, because this appliance makes it so easy. I've even purchased the meat grinding attachment -- it works well and has already paid for itself, since larger cuts of meat are cheaper than buying ground meat in the supermarket.

I bought my KitcheAid mixer here at Amazon almost two years ago. It was a refurb and only $99. I can't find anything wrong with it, so have no fear.
