I find flipping just about everything from chopped potatoes, etc to larger pieces of meat to be quicker and more effective.

The scalloped edges of some tongs, particular steel tipped tongs can cut or rip the food.

This is a great product. I bought these after spending a good while looking at different ones in the store. The scalloped edged tongs seemed to be sharp as were the pointed type. These were perfect with rectangular edges perfectly shaped not to be sharp or hard. They stay closed when you want them closed and open when you want them open. I looked at all brands available in two discount department stores and then traveled to a kitchen specialty store........these were the only kind that filled the bill for me. The size is also perfect for indoors on the stove stirring or serving noodles, veggies, meats and outdoors on the grill. The silicone edge is good up to 500 degrees.
I highly recommend this product and believe me I looked around. Be sure and get 2 to 3 tongs for all your pots and pans on the stove.

I've used and discarded too many tongs to count. All are required to be non-stick pan safe, for my grill pans and Scanpan. I've had the standard restaurant style with the rippled edges. I find this more than normal, frustrating. I've tried a pair that stays closed when you point them up and squeeze, but opens when you point them down and squeeze. This was cool at first, but because a serious pain when I actually needed to grip something up and it locks on me. Let alone the edge that seems destined to chop of part of my finger.

I was surprised that there we no reviews for this product when I came to the page. I'm here to buy two more. I'm getting sick of using my bad tongs when I've already dirtied this one. Not pinch points, the tong closes when you pull the tab on the bottom (no before). It is just a great pair of tongs.

There have been some complaints that these tongs are slippery with some foods, and yes this is true. When I tried to handle a piece of raw steak, it was very slippery, and even when cooked, it was still a little slippery. So for wet or raw meat like this, you would probably be better using a more conventional pair of nylon or steel tipped tongs. For fish filets, those are very delicate, and I would recommend using a fish spatula or turner instead of any kind of tongs to avoid damage to the food. The scalloped edges of some tongs, particular steel tipped tongs can cut or rip the food.

However, now let me highlight a sample of jobs where these tongs work fine or excel at:
- Salmon burger patty (cooking on the grill from frozen, normally would use a turner for this, but just wanted to test out the tongs)
- Small corn tortillas (toasting on the griddle)
- Cooked ground beef (for portioning onto tortillas above for tacos - other loose items like fried onions would be fine too)
- Bratwurst sausages
- Spring rolls
- Gyoza dumplings
- Toasted sub sandwich
- Grilled veggies

Finally there's also a class of jobs that nylon and steel tongs CANNOT touch where these tongs truly shine, and that is manipulation of food containers, i.e. a hot cooking vessel that you can grip by the sides, or the lip/rim. For example, handling ramekins cooking in a hot water bath...these tongs grips them super securely, where as non-silicone tongs have no chance getting a grip. As a test, I gripped a heavy glass beer mug WITH a full pint of liquid inside using these tongs, and at no point did it feel like it was going to slip.

These tongs work great and have a locking feature that makes them easy to store. I like the size because you have no hesitation in using them. Maybe I'm weird, but I hesitate dirtying up large tongs for a quick task. With these, it's a no brainer - they're nice and easy to use and small enough that you just grab for them naturally. The silicone surfaces are top-notch - they take any level of heat and wash off easily. Absolutely no complaints.

These are the best tongs. I get a little uptight cleaning them because silicone always feels like it has residue on it (like olive oil). Besides that small gripe, they are great. We use them all the time and they really make cooking easier. I find flipping just about everything from chopped potatoes, etc to larger pieces of meat to be quicker and more effective. Their grip on heavy items is not as good as tongs with teeth, but they're not really meant for that.

I recently purchased ceramic cookware that requires use of silicone utensils. These tongs are easy to use and big enough for just about any meat! They'll even be great to use when grilling.
