2.0 out of 5 stars Not for longterm use
I bought this blender a couple of years ago and loved it at first. It handled everything I threw in it beautifully, though I didn't use it very often. Recently, the jar began leaking through the bottom, which hurt the motor, and now the blender is a total loss. I spent a lot of money on the blender thinking it would be my last one, but same sad story.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Far, So Good, September 6, 2009

Like many others have mentioned regarding Blenders, my main concerns were function, durability & ease of clean-up.
The stainless steel container, I believe is beneficial to both glass or polycarbonate plastic. Both for health & safety concerns. Glass in that there is the fear of breaking & shattering, and polycarbonates concerning the use of plastics and the potential for leaching into foods over time. Stainless steel aleviates all concerns. Haven't had it for more than a few months and use it about 3-4 times a week, so hard to talk about durability. It has 2 settings, ON & PULSE. No need for too many buttons. A cool feature is that when turned on, it starts out slowly for a few seconds before going full steam ahead. This way, the contents don't go flying out of the container. Very powerful, and it seems like it will hold up over time. Very easy to clean-up with the 1 piece , all in container. We use it mostly for shakes & smoothies, and in that regard it does a great job. Crushes Ice nicely. Recommended for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong and quick motor, November 22, 2009
This review is from: KitchenAid KCB148SGR Blender, Commercial
I've been using this blender for two weeks now. It's extremely fast, so it causes quite a bit of foam if you add too much water to your smoothie. Use the minimum amount of water initially when blending then add and pulse more water near the end. I do get a slight burning smell when I blend too long so I try not to blend for too long. I like the simple two speed button and the metal jar makes it easy to clean and not as heavy as glass jars. It's difficult to see how smooth the smoothie is through the lid, but the blender blends it so fast that it takes seconds to know your smoothie is done. I have no problems blending frozen fruits and huge chunks of fruits because the motor is so powerful. Overall I'm pleased with this very good looking blender.

Minus one star for the burning smell. What's up with that?

Edit: I'm giving it an extra star. The burning smell went away after a few uses. I love that fact that the steel blender hides any scratches or yellowing that you get with plastic containers.
