We decided to get a toaster oven to save heating up the large oven. We cook quite a bit, and were willing to buy what we wanted. Ended up looking at about 25 online and maybe a dozen in the stores. We were leaning toward the Hamilton beach model due to it's larger size and convection feature. We ended up with the kitchenAid due to the toaster and warmer feature. I think I would have been happy with either. The KA is quite heavy for it's size and seems well built. It is larger inside than it looks. It will easily hold a 3 quart casserole dish. It makes good toast, although it does take about 4-5 minutes. At least it does 6 slices at once. It is perfect for baking. It preheats in 5 minutes(the Hamilton Beach was reported to take up to 15 minutes). I have read about heat concerns on most toaster ovens so I put a thermometer on the outside and it gets to about 130 degrees when baking at 350. I thought that was within reason. I have to say it is a really good looking appliance. I can't speak to the durability, but if it holds up, I will be really happy.

April 2013. Selection control selector stopped working. Part not available.

I never bother writing reviews, but feel compelled to with this product. After returning the first toaster to the store because of a crooked door that kept hitting the side of the unit, we obtained a second toaster from Lowes, no questions asked. It worked flawlessly for three months, then stopped baking (and then stopped toasting). We are gentle but daily toaster users - it was just a piece of junk. Contacted Kitchenaid for warranty replacement ( good for 1 yr), and when I was told that a replacement unit was back-ordered with an undisclosed arrival date, I asked about other options. Even after pointing out that we have purchased a Kitchenaid oven, dishwasher, stove, and mixer, they were unwilling to make any other arrangements. Frankly, I don't think the product deserves a third try - I just want my money back! Save yourself the time and frustration, and go with another company's unit. And I love my other Kitchenaid stuff!

Lasted a little over a year. Doesn't heat no lights. Traced the problem back to a PCB timer, but can't buy the parts anywhere. This oven was no better, possibly worse than a cheap $25 model. When it did work it took forever to make toast.

This oven does NOT live up to the usual KitchenAid standard of quality. The oven door design is flawed. It opens and stops at an upward angle so that if you pull out the rack to remove an item your fingers will be caught between the rack and the burning hot oven door. A potholder does not protect you from this burn danger, only an oven mitt will do that but the bulkiness of a mitt makes your grasp less secure. Another problem is that the numbers on the dials are not lighted and are barely visible in certain ambient light. The numbers were so invisible I thought they had rubbed off but it was the artificial light of the kitchen during the evening. The numbers are clear in the daylight. Even a flashlight does not bring clarity to the numbers so you have to guess the temmperature and settings. My oven does not bake on the bottom at the same temperature as the top so I have to cover the top of dishes at some point to allow the bottom to finish cooking. This oven is crap. I had this for only six months and am tired of having to work around the flaws. This oven went into the trash today. That was a hundred dollars down the drain but I wouldn't give this piece of junk away so someone else can get burned.

Well, first impression was good, but that was it. After a week it made awful toast. Toasted so slow that it dried out the bread making it rock hard. Truly, over 10 minutes to make toast? I figured, oh well, I'll get a toaster. Well, now after only a month the ENTIRE OVEN IS DEAD. No power, nothing. I went to KitchenAid website and that, too, is down. At least the product registration, live chat, and the link that goes to their actual phone numbers are all down. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER KITCHEN AID PRODUCT. I had one of their high end dishwashers several years ago, and it was loud and didn't work nearly as well as my $350 Kenmore does. Honestly, I think KitchenAid has just gone down hill in quality and I will not consider them again for anything. I've learned another lesson, don't write a review until you've had a chance to use the product for a while!

OLD REVIEW AFTER FIRST USE ONLY:

I just received this oven for a Christmas present. I tried it out this mornig re-heating my egg casserole. It heated up quickly and was so much better than re-heating it in the microwave. Then I made toast. My first toast was toasted only on the top, so I tried all three rack levels. You have to make the toast on the bottom rack, then it comes out PERFECT. The entire piece of bread was evenly browned on both sides. I'm a HUGE toast lover, so this was important to me. I hate heating the big oven for small items, so I'll be using this a lot I think. Since I have only used it once, my review is not really complete. I'll try and check in once I've used it for a while, but I think this is going to be a great item.
