Product Description

Amazon.com Review

KitchenAid food processors enjoy an unsurpassed reputation. This top-of-the-line model demonstrates why. It's big: the main bowl holds 11 cups. It's powerful: a 670-watt motor guided by an electronic sensor provides smooth, consistent speed. It's remarkably easy to use: precisely fitted parts assemble and disassemble quickly, and the flick of a fingertip controls the on/off and pulse switches. It's also flexible: a 4-cup minibowl with its own blade fits inside the big bowl for smaller jobs.

As another plus, it's strikingly beautiful, a sleek embodiment of functionality. For a cook, operating this processor is a thrill--like driving a luxury car. Make no mistake, this is a substantial appliance meant for busy cooks preparing big meals. With a solid metal base providing countertop stability, it weighs 24 pounds and measures 14.8 inches high by 8.7 inches wide by 10-1/2 inches deep. The cord is 4-1/2 feet long, with permanent storage beneath the base for nearly 2 feet of that. But, despite its size, it's easy to care for: the base wipes clean with a sudsy cloth and all parts are dishwasher-safe.

Included with this model is a whip for egg whites and cream, a dough blade, a thin (2 millimeters), reversible disc for slicing and shredding, and medium (4 millimeters) shredding and slicing discs. All are stored in a plastic case (10-1/2 by 7-1/2 by 7 inches) with a white bottom and clear top. A video of tips and recipes is also included. Should the processor fail during its first year, KitchenAid's "total replacement" warranty means another machine will be delivered. Other than in that unlikely eventuality, no cook would part with this machine. --Fred Brack

Editor's Choice: KitchenAid's 11-cup food processor is our choice for the best food processor under $300. It demonstrates why the company's processors enjoy a great reputation. It has a 670-watt motor (with one speed and a pulse function) and an 11-cup plastic bowl. It comes with a whip for egg whites and cream, a dough blade, a thin (2-millimeter) reversible disc for slicing and shredding, and medium (4-millimeter) shredding and slicing discs--all of which are stored in a plastic case.

Product Description

The next best thing to having your very own sous chef, this machine will have those veggies sliced, diced, or shredded in next to no time. And that's not all it can do: use this multi-purpose equipment to knead dough and purEe soups too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, July 19, 2000

I was going to buy a Cuisinart but the reviews from Amazon customers convinced me to try the Kitchen Aid. The KFPM650 comes with 3 discs, a general purpose blade, a dough blade, an egg blade and a minibowl with blade. It also comes with an instruction/cookbook and a video.

I haven't watched the video. The cookbook gave a lot of good ideas for using the processor.

As for the processor itself, amazing! It made short work of veggies. This was the first time I was able to make Cajun food without spending a half hour chopping vegetables first. I ran som onions through the large slicer. While they were caramelizing I had more than enough time to slice the celery and peppers. Slicing bell beppers is fun. Just quarter them vertically and drop the pieces into the running processor. Don't blink or you'll miss it.

I'm really looking forward to putting this thing to good use for sauces, marinades, doughs and more. I don't know how I was able to live without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best thing since sliced bread, September 14, 2000

My wife and I bought the KFP650 about 3 months ago and I must say it has been the best thing since sliced bread. We decided to spend a little more to get the KFP650 rather than the KFP600 due to the metal construction of the KFP650. Best decision we ever made.

The KFP650 is like a tank and the motor works like a charm. We never feel uncomfortable pressing the pulsing button over and over again. The unit never heats up or slows down even when processing frozen beef.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a very welcomed addition in our kitchen!, April 9, 2002
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP650 11-Cup Professional Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
While I wouldn't get rid of my other kitchen appliances, this food processor does a lot and saves a lot of time!

The pros:
It is wonderful for chopping vegetables and shredding chicken! It is a huge timesaver. It is very easy to clean by hand or throw in the dishwasher. It gets used almost every day.

Plan on loving this machine if you chop large amounts of food at once. I think if you are preparing food for just yourself and perhaps a spouse it might be just as easy to chop by hand. But if you've got a lot to chop this machine will finish it in an instant.

The cons:
I still find that I use my hand mixer for some things, and that the blender still does better with drinks and liquidy stuff. The food processor's shallow middle hole means that it can't hold a lot of liquid even in the largest bowl. So don't throw out those extra gadgets, just plan on using them less.

I've tried using the egg whip once, and didn't have luck getting the egg whites whipped well enough. Maybe it was just me, but the machine didn't seem to whip them hard enough to get a stiff peak.

In summary:
This machine is lovely! I waited a few months before writing a review so that I would have some experience with it. I wish I'd bought it much sooner!
