Brand switch from Cuisinart to Kitchenaid,
By
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I decided to buy a new food processor when the bowl on my Cuisinart food processor broke and I found out how much a new one would cost. After reading reviews on various websites I purchased a Kitchenaid 740 processor. So far I have been very pleased. I love the small mini-bowl for chopping small portions and its ease of cleaning. The machine is quiet and has worked well. The reason I am rating it 4 instead or 5 stars is because of the the following issues: one is that the the slicing blade makes fairly thin slices, and two is that you cannot put more than inch of liquid in the bowl-- a problem if you are going to make soup. These issues can be lived with and I am enjoying my processor.

Good Kitchenaid product,

I have had this since March and liked the look of the food processor. I chose the KA over Cuisinart b/c the KA looked more sturdy. The KA is very heavy, which is a good thing and the 9 cup is the perfect size. Not too big and not too small. It shreds an 8 oz block of cheese in 3 seconds. I have used it for shredding cheese, carrots, and grinding grahmn crackers, bread crumbs, and chicken. I haven't actually learned how to make it so the food processor doesn't completely pulverize the food to little pieces.

My mother bought me my first food processor some 20 years ago. When it finally gave up the ghost, I decided I needed to replace it. I spent some time reading the reviews of various models online and was impressed with the comments about the KitchenAid 9-cup processor. Since I have a KitchenAid power mixer, I am familiar with the quality and strength of this product. When Amazon.com offered me an unbeatable deal on the 9-cup processor, the choice became easy to make!Am I ever glad I chose this model! It is stylish, powerful and operates quietly, purring like a kitten as it effortlessly shreds cheese, kneads biscuits or chops veggies. It cleans up like a dream, too! Just a quick swish in warm soapy water and it looks just like new. The outer housing wipes clean with a swish of a sponge. It looks great on my countertop and makes meal preparation a breeze! I recently prepared a favorite zucchini casserole. I was amazed when I sliced 8 zucchini (in perfect slices, I might addd) in under 30 seconds!! I can shred an 8 ounce brick of cheese in about 3 seconds. I can make perfect pie crust in about 30 seconds. This machine does it all! I love the pulse feature for chopping veggies. The chopping bowl does not stain or retain food odors, so I can chop tomatoes, garlic, and basil for fresh tomato sauce and then I can rinse it clean and make a pie crust and there is no carry over of flavors. The dough blade makes fabulous biscuits and scones, too! I spend a lot of time in my kitchen...or at least I used to! My kitchen time has been greatly reduced since I "hired" my new "sous-chef" to do all my food prep for me. I think I'm in love!

I own a 12 cup kitchen aid processor and I was so happy with it that I thought my mother could use one on a smaller scale. I purchased the 9 cup model for my mother. After using my mother's I realized I could have save myself quite a few bucks because unless you are cooking for a crowd the 9 cup model is perfect size.

love it!!!,
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I bought this to replace my cuisinart duet (the gear box on it kept breaking - but blender worked great). I absolutely love it. I use it almost daily for everything from shredding cheese to combining dry ingredients for pancakes, etc. (works a lot better than trying to stir or sift). Its overall footprint isn't too large, so it doens't take up too much counter space. It feels sturdy - just like a Kitchenaid should! Between this and my Artisan standmixer, Kitchenaid has earned a loyal customer!

Poor value for money,

It took me about 2 days to realize that this particular model was a bad bargain. I wanted a medium sized unit with versatility so I thought that the two sizes of workbowls included with this model would constitute a nice middle ground. Boy was I wrong!Kitchen Aid really needs to wake up when it comes to meeting the needs of customers who don't need or want large scale appliances. The housing of the KFP740 isn't any smaller than the one used for the 12-cup models so takes up just as much counter or cabinet space. On the other hand, it has only a standard mouth and a thin (2mm) slicing disk. I discovered that I could either could pay less money and get the larger model with a wide mouth cover, more discs, and a storage unit or pay $65 extra to get standard 4mm slicer and the wide mouth cover for this unit. Even considering the return shipping charge, I decided that a 7-cup competitive unit with both the wider mouth and a medium slicing disk was a better bargain.

Very short lifespan,
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I bought the KitchenAid 9-cup food processor KFP740 in December of 2005. I have used it carefully, kept it clean, never dropped or damaged it, and not used it all that often actually. Fourteen months after I purchased it, the large plastic bowl began to deteriorate. Little pieces started breaking off it. I wrote the company, and they said they could do nothing except tell me where to take it for repairs. Now, 20 months after I bought the food processor, it has totally died. The handle came off in my hands, and as I examined it, it crumbled into dozens of plastic pieces. The machine is completely unusable now. It looked nice and ran well as long as its cheap casing lasted--but beware if you want this to survive beyond warranty.

So I did much research before purchasing this product. I read tons of reviews, went to the store to look at it up close and personal. I have to say, I have had it only a month or so, but it is everything I could have wanted in a food processor. It is easy to clean, the blades are sharp (careful!), the speed is perfect, and the attachements/slicer blades work well too. Here are some helpful tips that others (reviewers) complained about:1. Please have some COMMON SENSE, meaning: this is a food processor not a blender. Do not use this to make soup. Buy a blender or hand blender for that. If there is too much liquid in the bowl it will spill out onto your counter. 2.people complained about getting the mini bowl out of the large bowl, easy: use a spoon or knife and put it between the 2 at the top and it will pop right out. 3.yes it can get messy. but thats what cooking is all about (well not all about....)dont over stuff it. its not perfect, no machine is. I cook everyday- from scratch. This machine is amazing. I couldnt cook without it. There is nothing it cant do (except for soup!). 5 stars!

Nice but could have been Great.,
By Elaine Farris "Elaine" (Caddo Mills,TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
This food processor is really quiet just like it promised in the write ups. Nice and heavy, it can handle just about anything. The problem I have with it is I bought it because I wanted the big 9 cup but you really don't get to use the full 9 cups if you have liquids you are mixing. The design is such that the spindle lifts off to accept the mini bowl which then completely covers it. If you take the mini bowl off, there is no top on the spindle and liquids can go down inside of the unit. Bad design. I did not buy this to only use dry foods in it but it looks like that is all I will be able to do with it. Other than that, it does perform very well. It does take up counter space and it is heavy but the motor is so quiet it is worth it.

Opening in bottom of bowl,
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I would not have bought this item if I realized that you can only put a small amount of liquid in the bowl. The blade sits on a shaft that is open and therefore liquid will leak out if you try to remove the bowl from the processor. This was not the case with my last processor so I never realized I needed to worry about this. I can't believe anyone would design an item like this.
