5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Appliance, But Flimsy Handle On Work Bowl
Just got mine in the mail! One thing you must know before buying this appliance is that it weighs about 15 pounds or so- heavy. This makes it difficult to store away when not in use. No problem if you have lots of counter space, but I prefer my small counter to be free of appliances. I wasn't prepared for it- my old one weighed only about 5 lbs and I could easily whip it...

3.0 out of 5 stars worth it, July 24, 2008
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I purchased this about four months ago after another food processor died. My major qualm is the space a food processor can take up, since i have limited space in my kitchen. I liked the fact that the bowl is on top of the motor instead of to the side, which to me means that it takes up less counter space. I also like the fact that- like many of their products- there is a smooth surface where the operating buttons are, which means this can easily be wiped clean.
This is able to handle most of what I throw at it. I only cook for two, so I don't really need a mega capacity one. It comes with the basic blades I need with the grating and slicing, as well as the chopping blade. I had a huge zucchini in the garden- i have memories from when I was a child grating mountains of zucchini with a box grater for my mom and killing my knuckles. This made short work of the zucchini in about thirty seconds.

My gripes. Like most food processors the space on top of the disc blade where food can get hung up and not processed. No biggy.
Then there is plastic construction. I had a little part on it break on the handle tonight that prevented it from locking it into place. I am a careful person and was not doing anything unreasonable when it broke right in the middle of dinner prep.
I got on the phone with kitchenaid and they are going to send me a new bowl free of charge.
So theres the happy ending. When you buy kitchenaid, you may spend a lot up front for a unit, but most times if something breaks, it can be replaced, whereas a lot of lesser units would trash the whole thing and buy a new one.

That being said, it looks great on the counter. It is a nicely designed product, inside and out. Easy to clean, not too big or too small.

7/14/09 UPDATE: I am still in love with this appliance! I use it all the time.

12/10/10 UPDATE: The bowl handle broke and now I am replacing it for $30. I've been dangerously rigging it with a chopstick for several months and now I can't even do that. The handle just won't hold up. This work bowl needs major design improvement!

4.0 out of 5 stars good item, January 9, 2009

KitchenAid 7-Cup Food Processor - White
I'm happy with this compact item; it compares well with the Cuisinart and takes up less space.
It chops and purees well, and the size of the chopped pieces can be controlled by the pulse button. The model with the small cup included might have been useful but the sale price on this item dissuaded me from buying that one. Have not yet used any liquids in it so can't comment on that. Caveat: the blades are really sharp- use caution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, October 11, 2009
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
How many ways can you say "love it"? I bought this because my small 3 cup chopper was just too small these days. It had been such a good little machine for so many years I decided to go with it's big brother and I'm glad I did. It is simply perfect. It's incredibly quiet, chops quickly and easily. I use it every single morning of my life to finely chop a variety of fresh produce to feed parrots. It gets a workout. You won't be sorry if you buy this model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from the KitchenAid KFP715 food processor!!!, April 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
UPDATE: Dec. 8, 2011. The replacement workbowl finally came in a couple of weeks after I wrote the below and all worked well until 3 weeks ago when the latching mechanism started hanging up again. Today it gave up the ghost - broken again! The mechanism is sooooo cheaply made and is way too delicate. This thing is NOT worth the trouble! My wife is in the kitchen preparing our supper with the old KitchenAid Pro 670 (GLAD I kept it!!!) Like I said - this thing is hand-washed, never goes in a dishwasher. We are just two people to prepare food for therefore a really light load on this KFP715. Ideal conditions for any kitchen appliance. We'll call KitchenAid again and go through the hassle of getting a replacement AGAIN - I just wish we had not bought this in the first place. WE DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS KITCHENAID KFP715.

April 11, 2011. First of all - we are huge KitchenAid fans - we had a KitchenAid Pro 670 food processor for years. Having a big family, using LOTS of fresh veggies and scratch-cooking all the time put a huge and constant load on it. It was soooo easy to clean up afterwards because it was dishwasher friendly, too.
After many years, the workbowl lid finally started cracking, eventually getting bad enough that it fell apart so we bought the KitchenAid replacement lid. Another several years and the workbowl itself started breaking apart.
The replacement bowl from KitchenAid was soooo pricey that we decided to downsize to this KitchenAid KFP715 food processor. With all the kids grown and out of the house, it was the perfect size - we use it only a couple of times per week and then only for small amounts of food. Also, we downsized to a house that didn't have a dishwasher so this thing gets handwashed - no more drying in the dishwasher.
Even with what would seem to be close to ideal conditions, after only nine months, the workbowl lid safety switch totally broke off, making it absolutely unusable. And talk about cheaply made!!! It comes with a one year warranty so I called KitchenAid in March to request a replacement. No problems except they can't keep them in stock.
I just called again today (April 11th) and was told the exact same thing as before - out of stock, going to ship to me as soon as they receive them and it will go out in the order they were placed.... Sounds like KitchenAid has a need to re-design the safety mechanism. Us? We are TOTALLY disappointed in KitchenAid and this product. We are now thinking about buying the replacement bowl for our original, AWESOME KitchenAid Pro 670 though it is waaaay overpriced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy clean, easy set-up, December 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
The base of this process has no crevices to catch food. Wipes off easily. Blade, bowl, and cover sort of "snap" in place. Base is heavy, sturdy. Grater/slicer attachment actually allows you to process almost the entire piece carrot, cucumber, etc. without leaving very large pieces. Happy with this Kitchen Aid processor.

4.0 out of 5 stars I turned to Kitchenaid after bad exp with Cuisinart and glad I did, September 22, 2010
I spent extensive hours last year trying to pick the best food processor since I am an avid cook, but 80% of the time I do so for only 2 adults and a child. Decided first to go with a Cuisinart 11 cup food processor (newer models not the "square" base ones). Paid lots of money, bought lots of extra discs. Too much space in my counter and too much space for extra parts stored in cabinets. But BOY was it versatile. Unfortunately the motor burned out after only 3 months of use. Cuisinart's customer service is beyond horrible. After being treated like I was asking them for a handout when you just expect them to fulfill their warranty promises and having different overly priced appliances fail me in less than 3 months time, I am anti-Cuisinart. Yeah, they claim to have the "longest warranty of products in the market", but they try to squirm out of it, treat you like a criminal, and make you pay for shipping (no less than 30 dlls for food processor each way).

Kitchenaid, on the other hand, also has a few quality issues. 6 months use and the top of the handle where the locking mecanism is broke. However I just called, gave them my address and place of purchase, and presto! I get a new bowl within 10 days. Very courteus and effective.

If you are looking for a reasonably price appliance that doesn't take up too much counter space and cook for a small family, I think this one is perfect for you. The extra blades are easy to use and take care of your most common needs. I do wish they had extra blades for the 7 cup size, or that the slicer had adjustable thicknes/shred size. It would be PERFECT.

2.0 out of 5 stars For the price of a replacement bowl..., January 10, 2011
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
As others have noted, the bowl is the weakest link in this product's design. I bought the KitchenAid after a long-lived RobotCoupe bought the farm. Loved it, all 4-6 times I used it, until the gadget at the base of the handle -- the thing that makes contact so the motor will run -- snapped off. I *never* put this bowl in the dishwasher, and never used it for anything more strenuous than making pesto. I went to the store and did some comparison shopping. Come to find out that virtually all food processors on the market today have the SAME design "feature" -- a little plastic piece at the base of the handle, just itching to break off!

Soooo... spend the extra money on a Braun K650-CombiMax. It's designed to make contact at the top of the bowl, not the base, with nothing to snap off (just like my poor old RobotCoupe, or like older Cuisinarts). Depending on where you buy it, it'll work out to be about the same as one KitchenAid, plus one replacement bowl. The Braun also has many more speeds and a bunch more features. Quieter, too.

1.0 out of 5 stars how DID this make it to market??, March 26, 2010
On the good side, it works well. However, the way they designed the handle is completely idiotic! There is an opening where water and goo can enter the handle, yet there is no way to open it to clean it out. After a year of use, I have to throw this thing away strictly because it is completely disgusting! The mold and crud that collects in the handle is nicely visible through the clear inner portion of the handle. What kind of research and development folks do they have working there that could make such a stupid mistake??

1.0 out of 5 stars broke easily, June 12, 2010
This review is from: KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
bought this processor in september and with light use it is now useless in June. plastic pieces began breaking off the drive shaft and the handle broke apart making engagement of the processor impossible. fortunately it has a 1 year warranty. We will never buy this product again. also agree with the other review which states that the processor leaves chunks of the item to be shredded in the areas above the shredder. not good. consumer reports rated this processor highly so I am now highly skeptical of their processes for evaluation.
