Good looking - poor performance,

Looks nice, pretty colors, solid, heavyweight. But, after a few months my opener began to function poorly, the mechanism seemed to have loosened and it wouldn't open some cans. Now it doesn't work at all and I've thrown it out. I'm disappointed in this expensive, good-looking, but, unexpectedly poor performing product.

This can opener is sturdy, and works like a charm. I purchased 2 (you never know if one might be misplaced). I even gave it to my parents for Christmas. I have had no problem opening anything. It seems pricy for a can opener, but it is worth it.

I have ordered and returned twice and my third one they sent has the same result. After a few uses it seems to twist off stroke and stays that way.

I purchased this handsome can opener in June 2004. Feels & looks substantial and promising. It worked ok for a couple of months, and now it's useless. I'll return to using my zyliss opener, and throw this in the trash.

Feels Great, Works Terrible!,

I was very excited about this opener since it would be easy to get in and out without taking up the space on the counter or in the drawer. It feels great in your hand and very heavy-duty and easy to use. AT FIRST! After only a handful of uses, it seems to have slipped off track and will not grip a full turn giving a cut, uncut, cut, uncut can. I can't say that the blade is dull because it won't cut and cuts so inconsistantly. I have to go around the can multiple times and even then I sometimes give up! I will not waste my time returning it because so many others have had problems with it that I think I will just get the one that fits on my mixer instead and save my sanity!

Kitchenaid can opener,

It's hard for me to get excited about kitchen products, but I adore this can opener! When I make spaghetti sauce I use a lot of tomato sauce and tomato paste. My other can openers frustrate me as they catch, and I have to press down hard to latch onto it. After opening all those cans I'm not frustrated with this opener nor are my hands sore with grip marks from pressing down hard. This is a smooth cut all the way around without a lot of pressure. The weight of the product helps too!! I love it! I have very long nails, and the turning knob doesn't catch them as it's very large. I don't know what took me so long to purchase this! Maybe the $15 was too daunting a number for a manual can opener???? I'm very pleased I bought this item. The same day I bought a kitchen aid whisk. It works better then my pampered cheif whisk that I had thought was the bomb! I've finally discovered what it means to USE kitchenaid, and it's not often I get excited over little kitchen gadgets. Diamonds on the other hand........ lol

The pros: Great styling, nice feel in the hand, sturdy mechanism. The cons: Sometimes it loses its grip on a can. I'm not sure why sometimes it will open a can fine and other times it keeps slipping off as the can is cut. This doesn't happen with my other can opener, something I paid similar money for at a grocery store a number of years ago. This KitchenAid can opener definitely works better than truly cheap can openers, but I agree with the previous reviewer who wrote that there are better can openers at this price point in terms of functionality.

Works like a dream - we actually prefer it to our electric model. Very sturdy. The turning mechanism is metal but doesn't pinch the fingers.

No longer functioning,
This review is from: KitchenAid Can Opener, Blue (Kitchen)
My entire kitchen is comprised of KitchenAid appliances and utensils. This can opener is the only KitchenAid item I have been disappointed with. After about three can openings, the screw holding the two handles together broke apart rendering the can opener useless. I'm working to get KitchenAid to provide a replacement can opener.
