5.0 out of 5 stars Best Manual Can Opener We Have Found
This can opener works great and is heavy duty for sure. It comes in RED or BLACK.

On the front of the package it says to HAND WASH and DRY ONLY ... I think that most people ruin theirs by putting it in the dishwasher!

So, ours stopped working shortly before a year old and all I had to do was go to the website and hit contact and enter the data...

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete Garbage
This is the worst can opener I (and my wife) have ever used. The $3 ones at the grocery store are better, seriously. It has no stiffness whatsoever and thus cannot grip the inside of the can.

Complete garbage. I guess I will invest in a better can opener.

On the front of the package it says to HAND WASH and DRY ONLY ... I think that most people ruin theirs by putting it in the dishwasher!

So, ours stopped working shortly before a year old and all I had to do was go to the website and hit contact and enter the data on where to send the replacement -- the model number is KTA KG130ER to enter into the form.

KitchenAid responded quickly by email and I had a new red opener via UPS in 10 days.
[...]

My package on the back says Hassle-Free Warranty - Replacement within one year and Life Time if over a year due to a part failure and you return it. See complete wording at the very end.

I did not have to return anything other than filling out the contact form via the website.

So, in summary ... Keep it out of the Dishwasher!!!!! Great Product and Great Company!

Great Replacement Policy and we will hand wash it from now on. I will copy the warranty from the back as follows:

One Year Hassle-Free Replacement & Lifetime Limited Warranty. This fine product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship. For one year from date of purchase, under normal use and care, KitchenAid will replace the product free of charge, if it is found to be defective in material or workmanship. In addition, from year two through the life of the product, any piece found to be defective under conditions of normal use and care will be repaired at no charge, or replaced with the same item or an item of equal or better value. Individual products should be returned postage paid to: KitchenAid Products, Consumer Service Department, P.O. Box 9750, Trenton, NJ 08650-1750. You may have other rights, which vary from state to state.

4.0 out of 5 stars expensive, but sturdy, January 1, 2004

We bought a packaged set of KitchenAid utensils, and this was one of the pieces.

Pros:
1) sturdy handles, easy to grip - no more wrist pain from having to exert too much force to keep the hinge closed!
2) 180 degree range of movement in hinge, which enables easy (and thorough!) cleaning and easy drying - no rust!
3) dishwasher safe
4) blade stands up to frequent use (we have used ours 2-3 times per week for over a year)
5) comes in a variety of colors (as do most of the other KitchenAid utensils) to match your chosen decor or other utensils

Cons:
1) Much like every other can opener I have ever owned, the blade is not "one blade cuts all", but not all cans are made the same, and I am not surprised by this. For particularly tough jobs, just go around the rim twice - that usually does the trick for me (on the RARE occasion that this does happen).
2) This piece is expensive when purchased on it's own, but you can get a better deal if you buy it as part of a set.

Aside from a few minor negatives (which don't really us, but I wanted to point them out anyway), I only have good things to say about this can opener. I would definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong like an ox, July 15, 2002
I didn't really need a new can opener, but after having such great luck with other KitchenAid gadgets I figured I should complete my set. I'm very happy with this opener!

KitchenAid seriously overbuilds all their equipment, and this can opener feels very strong in the hand. Almost no effort is needed to open cans. This is a solid piece of hardware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works for a few months, then it's worthless, February 7, 2005
Works great for the first few months. It starts skipping parts on can after a few months. Even if you try to re-open, still skips the same spots. Now I'm left with 2 parts of the top of the can that are unopen and I have to pry the can open with a utility knife, spraying whatever is in the can all over myself and the kitchen while hoping not to get a shard of metal in my eye. Fed up, going to buy ANOTHER can opener today! Not well made product for Kitchen Aid.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Can Opener!!!, September 16, 2002

I recently purchased this can opener and I love it. I have been suffering for years with a cheap old one and I hated it. I have a KitchenAid mixer that I love and when I saw that they also made a can opener I had to try it. I'm glad I did! This can opener is so easy to turn and very sturdy. Another great product form KitchenAid!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected from KitchenAid, September 16, 2010

This review is from: KitchenAid Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
I LOVE KitchenAid, so when the can opener we got for our wedding got lost in our last move, I grabbed the Kitchen Aid one off the shelf assuming that the quality would be what I had come to expect from the company. I could not have been more wrong. It looks solid enough to get the job done (and in fact, the handle was pretty solid), but there is something quirky with the blade. Either it's misaligned or just not sharp enough...All I know is we hate it and threw it out after realizing we were letting something as stupid as a can opener drive us crazy! We grabbed a cheap one from the grocery store to tide us over until we got a "real" one, and I have to say it it a hundered times better than the Kitchen Aid. This can opener won't ruin your life, but it's not worth the hassle.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KitchenAid Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
For years I'd bought cheap can openers in the small appliance section of the grocery store, only to have them rust out or break after a year. Once I thought I'd be a little extravagant and buy the better grocery store model for about $8, hoping it would last longer. It didn't. I've had this can opener for two years and it's still working amazingly well. I never knew how easy it could be to open a can with a good can opener. And it's still not rusted out, although I do hand wash it rather than running it through the dishwasher. This can opener is worth its price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Superb Can Opener, July 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: KitchenAid Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
This KitchenAid can opener is probably the finest I've ever owned. The handles are large and comfortable, the wheel action is non-jarring and smooth, and it opens cans with the greatest of ease. If you get it gunked up with something messy like pasta sauce, there is a screw that allows you to dismantle the wheel assembly for easy cleaning. This makes it easy to get food out of those normally hard-to-reach areas.

I have for years bought cheap can openers and am usually frustrated by it. So I decided to spring for a bit more. I am so impressed with this one! Once I press the can opener together on a can, it bites into it immediately. Opened all my cans with no problems. Even my husband was impressed with this can opener. I can see the blade is longer than most cheap can openers and the angle is sharper. that is why it can cut so well.
