5.0 out of 5 stars Great garlic press!
This is by far the best garlic press I have ever used. It doesn't leave behind half the garlic like most of them do, only a small amount of 'skin'... Very well made gadet, I was surprised at the weight.

2.0 out of 5 stars It was good, until it broke.
Did a good job pressing the garlic, until it broke where the plastic met the chrome on the handle. Use caution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for big hands, solid, weighty, August 1, 2003

Its a garlic press... what can you say. It is a solid metal press, fairly large, which is good for my big hands. I found it easy to clean, but the cleaning tool certainly gets the holes cleaned quicker. No need to pull skin off the bulbs. While the cleaning tool is plastic and may break or get lost the press itself should last. I don't know about shallots or small onions as one reviewer mentioned. They would need to be smallish shallots and cocktail onions or pre-sliced chunks.

This garlic press is very well made. It is heavier to hold yet is easy to use. I love this one.

The handle broke off and I called Kitchen-aid and they are sending me a new one. I love when companies back up their products.

1.0 out of 5 stars looks sturdy - isn't, August 27, 2009
This review is from: KitchenAid Garlic Press, Black (Kitchen)
Given as a gift, the handle broke as mentioned by other folks. I wrote to kitchenaid, and they graciously replaced it... with the same flawed design. Broken again. Now I'm hear shopping for a decent, solid garlic press. Could potentially be dangerous.

I have had this press for about 3 years, and used it quite frequently. It does an acceptable job at squishing garlic, but a far better job if you take the time to peel it first. I too had the handle break where the plastic meets the metal. The design is junk. You can get a better one at Wally world for $5, save your dough.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good press...until it broke, February 1, 2008

Like a previous poster, it worked fine until the handle broke. I would say I am a stronger than average woman, but I am no body builder. Was great and then the plastic portion where it meets the metal portion on the top snapped.

Disappointed, I have to say. I am sure I could get it replaced, but I need something more sturdy. I will have to try the one the previous poster suggested.

3.0 out of 5 stars A perfect press - until it breaks., November 4, 2007
I'm a bit of a freak about my garlic presses; I know just what I want to see coming out of it (I also tend to slice the garlic off with a sharp paring knife as it comes out when I want very fine particles - try that without having three hands!) I was a happy puppy when I got my Kitchen Aid; it did the job with aplomb, and the large bowl made it easy to clean quickly. But... my wife managed to break a handle off when crushing. My wife is not, for the record, a professional wrestler or oil-rig worker (she's an anthropologist). Upon closer inspection, it's clear that the plastic handle (which inserts into the metal "head") simply sheared right off. A sad day for me, but I just ordered the Kuhn Rikon -- anyone as intense about their garlic press should have the BMW of presses, right? Right!

I bought this garlic press on the recommendation of my gourmet cook daughter. It worked very well, cleaned easily, and seemed sturdy enough to last a lifetime. Try a scant few years--we each have had to throw it away because of broken-off handles rendering it useless. A new design is in order. Not worth the money.
