Really great blender but..., August 28, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100BU Hand Blender, Cobalt Blue (Kitchen)
I bought this hand blender to make home-made baby food and protein shakes. It works extremely well IF you use the container that comes with it. When trying to use other containers, whether larger or smaller, pieces of food are missed, causing a mess and great inconvenience.

Excellent tool, October 23, 2005

You first have to understand what an immersion blender is. It is a blender blade on the end of a wand which has a power cord. If you're making soup, instead of pouring the soup into a blender to puree it, you simply put the immersion blender into the soup pot. 1. Is this potentially messy? Yes, you have to be careful (you immerse the device before turning it on). 2. Does it do as thorough a job as a blender or food processor? In most cases, probably not. You can search for missed chunks, but the blender is designed to funnel the contents through the blade; your soup pot is not. Of course, you can move the immersion blender around. 3. Is it more convenient than a blender? Absolutely. There is less to clean and no pouring of hot ingredients from one container to another. Having said this, the Kitchenaid is a very good immersion blender. It is sturdy and has variable speeds, and the detachable blade is handy. Before this we had a Braun. Apart from the fact that it finally gave out, it never did as good a job. However, it was purchased years ago.

Also a great whip, May 25, 2006

I already had two diffrent brands of hand blenders (both house warming presents) and they worked fine. However, I bought this for the purely frivolous reason that it matched my other KitchenAid appliances (stand mixer, food processor, and blender). When it first arrived I noticed it was a two piece unit, which concerned me. In my experience, switchable parts make for a weaker tool. However, it has held up just dandy. It blends with the best of them, but what I really love is the whip attachment. It whips cream and egg whites in half the time of a hand mixer and its much more convenient for small quantities. Just make sure to use a deep bowl to avoid spatter because even at its lowest setting it kicks up quite a wake. The small bowl of a Sunbeam or Oster mix master is perfect.
