Really great blender but...,

I bought this hand blender to make home-made baby food and protein shakes. It works extremely well IF you use the container that comes with it. When trying to use other containers, whether larger or smaller, pieces of food are missed, causing a mess and great inconvenience.

You first have to understand what an immersion blender is. It is a blender blade on the end of a wand which has a power cord. If you're making soup, instead of pouring the soup into a blender to puree it, you simply put the immersion blender into the soup pot.
1. Is this potentially messy? Yes, you have to be careful (you immerse the device before turning it on). 2. Does it do as thorough a job as a blender or food processor? In most cases, probably not. You can search for missed chunks, but the blender is designed to funnel the contents through the blade; your soup pot is not. Of course, you can move the immersion blender around. 3. Is it more convenient than a blender? Absolutely. There is less to clean and no pouring of hot ingredients from one container to another. Having said this, the Kitchenaid is a very good immersion blender. It is sturdy and has variable speeds, and the detachable blade is handy. Before this we had a Braun. Apart from the fact that it finally gave out, it never did as good a job. However, it was purchased years ago.

I already had two diffrent brands of hand blenders (both house warming presents) and they worked fine. However, I bought this for the purely frivolous reason that it matched my other KitchenAid appliances (stand mixer, food processor, and blender).
When it first arrived I noticed it was a two piece unit, which concerned me. In my experience, switchable parts make for a weaker tool. However, it has held up just dandy. It blends with the best of them, but what I really love is the whip attachment. It whips cream and egg whites in half the time of a hand mixer and its much more convenient for small quantities. Just make sure to use a deep bowl to avoid spatter because even at its lowest setting it kicks up quite a wake. The small bowl of a Sunbeam or Oster mix master is perfect.

Only negative is that there are other attachments (whisk and a chopper) which add a lot of value to this item that are not discussed or offered and have to be located through KitchenAid directly (and are much more expensive as a result). Otherwise, the blender is excellent, arrived timely and in great conditions, is easy to use and a welcome addition to the kitchen.

KitchenAid has made a fantastic hand blender. I love its multiple speeds and tough and sturdy feel. I think I'll have it for a very long time. This blender really packs a wallop - I like to make smoothies with ice cubes, and a few seconds of blending is all it takes for a frothy, perfectly pureed drink. Conventional blenders usually leave me with unblended ice chunks, but not this blender!
The only thing that surprised me about the KitchenAid KHB100BU Hand Blender is that it is huge - it's longer than my entire forearm, from fingertips to elbow. So storing it is not quite as easy as I had anticipated, but it's totally worth it!!!

I love this hand blender. It makes great smoothies. I use all frozen fruit---berries, bananas, peaches, etc. I just make sure that the berries are not whole, and the blender works just fine. The plastic mixing container is the perfect size. Also, the detachable bottom half of the blender makes it a breeze to clean. This is so much easier than using a traditional blender to make a smoothie.

I got this KitchenAid hand blender at $25 with a $5 rebate, 9 Speed dial on top to pick from for plenty of power, a 4-cup beaker capacity with lid and KitchenAid 1-Year hassle-free replacement warranty and their History of quality. You have the option of purchasing 2 different attachments (Wisk and chopper attachment) that make this very useful tool and I must for any kitchen. This great price is only for the Cobalt Blue color that was fine since all my KitchenAid appliances are. I expected this tiny, little handheld blender but this this is HUGE! The granddaddy of handmixers! Awesome!

A real mix master,
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100BU Hand Blender, Cobalt Blue (Kitchen)
I got this hand blender mainly to make smoothies and it does a heck of good job. Very easy to clean and very powerful. Sometimes you have to watch what you are trying to mix, I put freeze dried strawberries and stuff shot out of the container and made a mess. No problems with ice, peanut butter, berries or anything else, but I guess the large frozen pieces of strawberries should have been sliced by hand into smaller pieces. All in all, a great unit and saves messing with the blender!

powerful hand blender, but the size is quite big.,
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100BU Hand Blender, Cobalt Blue (Kitchen)
Pros : powerful, can chop fruit into fine puree in seconds.
Cons : clumsy, and big in size, not easy for small hand, power cord is not long enough. Plastic container comes with it is the best place to do the blending, need to hold the blender with and up and down motion to improve blending and chopping. It is a good milk shake machine, like the one in fast food restaurant.
