5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity itself!
I considered this an optional kitchen item, but I hate having to make sauce or soup by dipping it out of the pot a little at a time into the blender, then pouring it into another bowl--tedious and time-consuming. I considered this an optional kitchen item, but I hate having to make sauce or soup by dipping it out of the pot a little at a time into the blender, then pouring it into another bowl--tedious and time-consuming. I was doubtful that something like this would do the job, but decided to give it a try. What fun! A simple on and off switch, an easily detachable and washable blade housing, and unlike most appliances these days, it comes with a long cord. And it's plenty powerful for my purposes. Besides the fact that it blends leek and potato soup into a beautiful cream quickly, it also makes homemade mayonnaise in less than a minute, including the time it takes to gather the ingredients. That was my first attempt ever at mayonnaise, and it was easy, which was amazing. (Recipe using Egg Beaters, lemon juice and oil comes with it--just dump in all together and blend). I think it would be a little easier in another small bowl, rather than the one that came with the blender, however, as I ended up overblending it in that one. The one caveat I have is that, if one attempts to make bean soup, one should make sure all the big chunks of ham are taken out of the pot beforehand. There was this big THUNK, you see, and after cleaning bean juice off my stove, walls, floor, refrigerator, clothes, face and hair, I learned my lesson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blenderizing is a breeze, June 13, 2007
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100WH Immersion Hand Blender, White (Kitchen)
I became my wife's student after my retirement last year. I scored consistently a low C until I bought this immersion blender based on an LA Times article. Now I whip up hummus, chutney and smoothies that even she acknowledges reluctantly, are worth a second notice.

It is easy to assemble -just insert the blade wand handle, easier to clean -just rinse and dry before storing, and compact sized. Variable speeds are available and the blades blend fruits, nuts and vegetables effortlessly.

The default lid does not close the base-beaker while you are blending. Without a cover the blending contents may spray if you are not wary. What I did was cut a slit with a central hole out of a plastic lid from a 32 oz Dannon yogurt carton. I use that to cover the beaker while blending. Works well for me.

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars KitchenAid versus Cuisinart..., April 27, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100WH Immersion Hand Blender, White (Kitchen)
Amazon sells the two best (I know that is gramatically incorrect since there can be only 1 'best').

Cuisinart:
1) $15 less, even taking into account the $5 KitchenAid rebate.
2) Nylon guard which means the preparer may use right in the cooking vessel.
3) Longer warranty (18 mos. versus 12 mos. KitchenAid).

KitchenAid:
1) Multi-speed (versus 2-speed for the Cuisinart).
2) Mixing attachment is removable which means easier storage.
3) Choice of colors (for those who care).

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are indeed a Chef, this is the tool for you, March 14, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I am not saying that there are not better immersion blenders available, because I don't honestly know, but for the price, this is a very good one. It has satisified all requirements, and has been used frequently for a wide variety of purposes for about a month now. If you are a chef, and know exactly what you will use this for, then you can buy this brand with confidence.

As to the brand, Kitchen-Aid, a number of their products are in my kitchen right now, and I have to say, it is in general a brand of quality and distinction, at least for middle-class families, and especially compared among the brands you will find in your average department store. The price/performance ratio is Good.

Have to say "ditto" to all the reviewers below--I owned another brand before but it wasn't nearly as powerful. At least one reviewer expresses concern about keeping the blades clean, so I must note that the instructions indicate everything but the motor housing--which detaches from the blade element--can go in the dishwasher!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Blender, February 21, 2007
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100WH Immersion Hand Blender, White (Kitchen)
I just purchased my new red Kitchenaid Immersion Blender. I used larger ice cubes to test it. It works GREAT! It actually works better than my Smoothie-maker blender. It's much quieter than I thought it would be. And I got it for a great price! Yay me!

1.0 out of 5 stars Lousy blender broke after a year, August 9, 2010

Absolutely the worst immersion blender I've ever owned. Bought it only based on a recommendation in Cook's Illustrated (since this isn't the first time, anything they promote I now take with a grain of salt). After little over a year of infrequent use (every 1-2 months or so), the bottom attachment pops out of the housing during blending; I was very careful not to use on thick liquids, since I have already fried 2 Braun stick blenders on mashed potatoes and liver pate, and those lasted me 4-5 years each. I own a mixer, toaster and food processor made by KitchenAid and they all work great. The blender says "Made in China", so let that be a warning. Complete waste of money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy blender - requires very little storage space, November 23, 2008
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100WH Immersion Hand Blender, White (Kitchen)
This is exactly as advertised. I love it. It's the perfect size for anyone that makes smoothies for one or two. I would recommend it for use in an RV, as it fits neatly into a drawer.

It's a little heavy - so I would recommend a regular blender for making more than one batch of drinks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plastic piece broke off, April 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KitchenAid KHB100WH Immersion Hand Blender, White (Kitchen)
I have had this hand blender for 2 years, but have only used it about 6 times. I pulled it out last week to blend some soup. The motor turned on but the blade did not spin. Had my husband look at it - the PLASTIC piece that makes the blade turn was broken. Why is Kitchen Aid selling $50 hand blenders that rely on a small piece of plastic to work? The device is only as strong as it's weakest part. The motor is doing me no good if the blade isn't spinning. What a scam - shame on you Kitchen Aid!
