Product Description

Amazon.com

Professional chefs have long sung the praises of the KitchenAid stand mixer. Now, KitchenAid has designed a product specifically for the home baker with this five-speed hand mixer. Very portable, this mixer allows you to roam the kitchen and mix at will. Its powerful yet lightweight motor maintains consistent beater speed even in heavy mixtures and won't bog down. The mixer comes with traditional beaters and also dough hooks for raised yeast doughs--simply change attachments to mix heavy bread doughs and delicate whites all with the same machine. Designed with nonclogging air vents, the mixer is easy to clean because smooth, sleek surfaces have no seams or grooves that trap ingredients. This mixer also comes with a one-year warranty. --Linda Dahlstrom

Prior to buying this hand mixer, I always seemed to end up cooking in qalley type kitchens, without the counter space or storage for a stand mixer. Plus I seemed to burn up the motors on any hand mixer I ever bought. I thought I simply asked unfair performance from hand mixers. About the time I burned up the motor in my third hand mixer I saw an ad in a cooking magazine for the then new to the market KitchenAid hand mixer.
So I went out and checked it out. Here are the reasons I bought this hand mixer: a) it was made by KitchenAid; b) it looked like it was easy to clean; c) When compared to the more expensive model with additional speeds, I thought the five speeds would meet my needs; d) It had a "nice feel" to it - it was light weight yet seemed substantial, and well built and well designed.
I have used this mixer ever since, I think it's been about four years (maybe longer), and it has always lived up to my expectations. The five speed model when I bought mine did not come with a dough hook attachment, so I cannot speak to its ability to handle yeast dough; however, it has unfailingly whipped and mixed every concoction I've put it in without any signs of strain. It is easy to clean with its seamless design, as the editorial points out. I enjoy using this mixer, and highly recommend this mixer as a very well designed basic, efficient, and reliable hand mixer.

Wow, I can't believe how great this mixer is. I bought it mainly to knead dough. The dough hooks worked just as well as a stand mixer that I had. They didn't hesitate at all. The mixer has a sensor inside that will compensate for the current to make sure it doesn't bog down. I kneaded on setting 4 for 2 minutes and the dough was better than when I used to do it by hand, and it was also better than with the Farberware stand mixer I had. I never got the impression that it was straining at all. It was also pretty quiet. It felt solid in my hand but not heavy enough to make it tired. It is a well-built product. The owner's manual has several recipes that look pretty good and even a few bread recipes.
I enthusiastically recommend this mixer to anyone who wants to knead dough.

I bought this mixer as a mothers day gift for my wife, to replace an old, inexpensive mixer with a broken beater. We both use it a lot, and it is beautifully designed and manufactured, quiet and powerful, a real pleasure to use.
I followed the advice of one of the other reviewers and ordered the whisk beater separately from Kitchenaid, and I'm very glad I did. The beaters that come with the mixer are very sturdy and work very nicely on heavy mixtures like cookie dough, but don't move enough air into the mix to whip cream or egg whites efficiently. It has nothing to do with the mixer not being "fast" enough. With the whisk, which is the correct tool for the job, whipping cream is very quick and easy with this fine mixer. I also find it gives me a very nice, light, frothy mix when making French toast batter, something I would normally whisk by hand with much more effort.
I would have given the mixer 5 stars if the whisk had been included. However, with the great price offered here for the mixer (not much more than the really junky, low end hand mixers), I didn't feel bad about paying for the whisk separately. The combination is still an excellent value for such a nice small appliance.

When it was time for me to buy a new hand mixer, I went to many stores to evaluate which one would be best. I knew I needed one with heavy-duty power to get through cookie doughs, but also one which was comfortable yet not too heavy for me to hold. I also looked at the beaters since many models of hand mixers have very flimsy, oddly shaped beaters. Finally, I decided on the KitchenAid Hand Mixer since it felt just right in my hand, and it had a heavy-duty motor and excellent beaters. There is also a dough hook, but I have never used it. My hand mixer has 5 speeds, plus a power-boost feature. One new feature, to me, is the sliding mechanism for changing speeds, rather than a clicking in place mechanism. However, I found it very easy to adjust to this type of speed control. This hand mixer also comes in other models with fewer or more speeds, but I find that 5 speeds is all I need for quick mixing tasks when I don't want to use my KitchenAid stand mixer.
Highly recommended!

Standing mixers are beautiful, but they don't fit my budget or tiny urban kitchen. This little beauty makes a great compromise, and far surpasses any mixer I've ever owned. My toddler and I bake regulary, and make bread every week, and this machine handles everything perfectly (as a bonus, it's also extremely quiet -- kids can find the noise made by bigger mixers scary). For just a little more than one of those cheap mixers that splatters and constantly gets stuck, you can have something that works quickly and efficiently, and includes an indispensible dough hook. Simply the best.

Two years ago I bought one of these hand mixers and used it and used it. . . batch after batch of cookie dough. . . A year and a half later I broke one of the beater connections (through my own mishandling) so I phoned KitchenAid to see if I could PAY to have it repaired. . . I described the problem. They insisted on sending me a NEW mixer and with the new mixer, they sent a postage paid box to return the old mixer. . . I don't know if this was a fluke or what. . . BUT, now all new appliances, large and small in my house are KitchenAid.
