5.0 out of 5 stars KHM9Q versus KHM9P: Same mixer, more attachments

I ordered several of these mixers from Amazon to use as gifts--you know--to have in my gift cupboard when I need a gift and don't have time to shop. The lowest price point I have seen on Amazon for this set is $34.49. I purchased several for $34.99 (June 2007). I was concerned about potential differences between the two models of the 9-speed hand mixer. When I purchased it, the Q was less expensive. Some on Amazon had complained that it did not ship in a retail box. I feared that the Q was a lower-quality model designed for a large, budget reseller such as Wal-Mart. I could find no information on the KitchenAid web site or in its manuals about motor specifications, etc. that might enlighten me.

After writing customer suppoert, I was relieved to learn that the Q mixer is practically identical to the P except that the Q ships with more attachments.

Thank you for contacting the KitchenAid website and your interest in our KitchenAid Hand Mixers

The KHM9Q model is a QVC model that does come equipped with more accessories.

The KHM9P and the KHM900PK are a 9-speed Hand Mixer which includes "Soft Start" and has extra fast and three slow stir speeds, which gives greater control. Its Digital display shows the selected speed at a glance. Pro Whisk ships up fluffier egg whites, icings, and whipped cream. The Electronic Mixing Sensor maintains selected speed automatically regardless of the mixture. Self-cleaning stainless steel Turbo Beater accessories have no center post to prevent clogging. The strong motor handles heavy mixtures with ease and is specially designed for quiet operation and durability. The control pad has smooth, seamless surface for easy clean up.

They all have the same motor and 9 speeds - it is the colors and attachments offered with each that varies.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT HAND MIXER!, May 29, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't have the space for a stand mixer and I have gone through hand mixers like crazy because most of them just can't handle big batches of cookie dough. I have five kids and I bake a lot. It has been a big frustration because the last hand mixer I bought lasted through one batch of chocolate chip cookie dough and died on the next try. The one prior to that one lasted no more than five batches.....and the list goes on. these things are just not made to be able to handle it like the hand mixers of yesterday - except this one!!! this one is definitely more powerful and durable. This will last me a long time, I can feel the difference in it. If your'e like me and bake often but don't have the space for a big stand mixer than this is the mixer for you!! I do wish that the beaters were a little bit more heavy duty, but they do seem to do the job just fine and they can always be replaced.

We have used this hand mixer tirelessly for the last 10 years without any problems. It is a solid performer and has whipped up many cakes and cookies without hesitation. The motor churns confidently today as it did the day we started using it. Don't buy this mixer if you are looking for something to keep for only a few years...this will probably last a lifetime!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your mother's mixer, June 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KitchenAid KHM9QWH Professional 9-Speed Handheld Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I bought this somewhat reluctantly, because I had less than fond memories of wrestling mom's old hand mixer, which always seemed to spatter the kitchen at the slightest provocation, and which was tricky to operate without accidentally ejecting the beaters. My least favorite feature of the old mixer was its tendency to turn itself on when I least expected it, at times rattling away across the counter.

Well, I was completely astonished at how times have changed. The beaters are easy to put on, but they stay put until you eject them. They are also of a different design than the old ones, and they actually drain themselves of the mix if you try to pull them out of the batter when they are still turning. They seem to mix much better, too, with nearly no scraping needed. The mixer is quiet, too, and very light weight. This truly is a wonder of modern engineering. Oh yes, and with electrronic controls, there is no way it can turn itself on - my very favorite thing about my new mixer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dream Come True, May 24, 2007

Shop Gal (Kirkland, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: KitchenAid KHM9QWH Professional 9-Speed Handheld Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I got rid of an old hand mixer after I got my KitchenAid Stand Mixer several years ago, thinking I'd never need it again. I was wrong and found myself often hand whisking things that needed to be prepared in a double boiler over the stove 15 minutes or more at a time. I also found many instances where my KA Stand mixer's 5 qt. bowl was just too large to efficiently whip small quantities, such as just a few egg whites.

I received my KHM9QWH 3 weeks ago and I find myself using it more and more. I love this appliance and I don't know why I waited so long. The accessory attachments are fabulous and I particulary love the whisk. The soft start feature eliminates splatter or dry ingredients flying everywhere. You simply gradually increase the speed as the batter begins mixing or the cream begins thickening. I wish I'd only ordered this sooner. Now I can't imagine living without it. I highly recommend this product. The instant off button is an important safety feature which many other brands don't have. I love that I can stop it with just the push of a button, rather than having to keep pressing the button to cycle down through through the speed settings.

If you still have an old style hand mixer with square beaters, you really don't know what you are missing. Once you've tried the whisk attachment you'll wonder why you waited so long to order this. The rounded turbo beaters reach the corners of bowls and practically eliminate the need for scraping (something I found I had to do almost constantly with my old square style beaters).

I ordered several of these mixers from Amazon to use as gifts--you know--to have in my gift cupboard when I need a gift and don't have time to shop. The lowest price point I have seen on Amazon for this set is $34.49. I purchased several for $34.99 (June 2007). I selected this item because the similar hand mixer: Kitchenaid KHM9PWH 9-Speed Professional Hand Mixer, White sells at a higher price, has fewer attachments and appears to be the identical hand mixer.

I was disappointed to discover that this mixer set is packaged in a plain brown box, NOT a *retail* style box with inviting labeling. This makes me wonder if perhaps these are refurbished. I don't know. I REALLY don't want to give a refurbished hand mixer to a new bride as a gift! I will probably remove one from the box and try it out to see how it performs before deciding to keep the additional ones I purchased for gifts or return them.

Yes, I know that the box has NOTHING to do with the performance of the appliance. However, for gifting to a new bride, I would have preferred receiving this item in a more inviting box.

After trying this mixer, I will post more on its performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Work Horse, June 11, 2007
This review is from: KitchenAid KHM9QWH Professional 9-Speed Handheld Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I have had this mixer for about 10 years also and it has never disappointed me. The beaters are heavy and smoothly finished stainless steel. They attach firmly into the mixer and have never rusted. The mixer itself is the most powerful hand mixer I've ever had, and like the other reviewers, I've been through quite a few until I got this one. I think it's an excellent choice for those who don't want or don't have room for a stand mixer.

The best hand mixer I've ever had. I read other's reviews for many models and brands before choosing this one. It works wonderfully. Mine has dough hooks, a wisk and an emusifier in addition to the beaters.

I do wedding cakes as well as regular cooking and this mixer has proved excellent for every project. I love the beater feature of no center post to cause ingredients to lodge.

I got mine for $49.99 and free shipping. WOW. It pays to read reviews and see how prices and shipping change from day to day. Don't be in a hurry. I love every purchase I've gotten thru Amazon.com.

I own the KitchenAid stand mixer and love it but it is so heavy to drag out for small jobs that I just wasn't doing simple baking. That has now changed.........this hand mixer is powerful and a joy to use. I don't know why I didn't buy it before!
