Product Description

The KitchenAid 4 Slice Toaster features an attractive metal housing that gives the toaster durability and style that you’ll love displaying on your countertop. The LCD display featured on this toaster remembers the last shading and function set, so you can get your toast the way you like it every time. A sleek, digital progress bar counts down time, so you’ll always know when your toast will be ready.

Customer Reviews

After all you have to push down the lever.
Taterbug
Everything toasted unevenly, with one side darker than the other, as if it was "stuck" on the "bagel" setting.

I would highly recommend this toaster to anyone who has yearned for the perfect piece of toast.

A lot of reviewers of this product note the slowness that it takes to toast, but I wanted to go ahead and show the actual time to toast in a head to head video demonstration. Here's a quick overall scoring breakdown for this toaster:

Appearance: 10/10 - This thing looks great, there's no disputing that.

Features: 3/10 - Although it does feature a visual LCD readout and various modes such as defrost, reheat, and "bagel," the annoying audible ending-beep is a real annoyance (and can't be turned off or turned down).

Toasting Ability: 1/10 - As demonstrated in the video (look at the LCD readout at the time the first toaster finishes), I have time (with the G.E. two slice Toaster) to cook two individual slices two times in the time it takes the KitchenAid four slice toaster to get done. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of a four slice toaster. And the end product is questionably worse (drier) in the end.

Overall 1/10 - Good looks can only get you so far. When an appliance performs poorly at the one thing that it's designed to do, all the good looks in the world couldn't save it from a negative recommendation.

Toasting is the 50 yard dash of the culinary world. It's not about endurance, but raw speed and power. And sometimes, slow and steady does not win the race Mr. Turtle...

For crying out loud...this "toaster" - which is more like a tanning bed for bread - is just ridiculous. It doesn't toast both sides evenly at all, and though they were thoughtful enough to build-in an alarm clock to wake you once your toast was finally "done", this is just one more gadget that someone thought was a good idea that was over-thought.

Look, just TOAST BREAD, okay? We don't need to marvel at how much crap you can add to a simple kitchen appliance.

Really, do NOT buy this toaster. Just don't. I swear, you'll wish you had taosted your bread with a bic lighter instead. That would be faster, and more thorough.

Look good and toasts evenly. It is a bit slow but the results are good. The timer countdown feature is nice to have. Once you figure out what settings to use for different things like thin or thick breads and bagels its easy to time making other things like eggs and have the toast ready when the eggs are.
Decent product so far. We will see how long it lasts.

I wish I had read the reviews on this toaster when my husband first brought it home from the store. We would probably have taken it back. I don't mind the loud beep when it's finished, I don't mind that it's a little slower than the toaster I'm used to but it only toasts one side of the bread. I think the problem is that the factory set it for bagels. If you notice, it only toasts on the side where it shows to put the cut side of a bagel. It NEVER toasts the other side. I've tried all four slots and none of them toasts both sides of the slice of bread.
Also, it's impossible to clean. The crumbs stick on the bottom of the toaster and do not fall into the crumb trays.

Unless you eat a lot of bagels, do NOT buy this toaster. First thing I noticed was the smell, as if vinyl is burning. Everything toasted unevenly, with one side darker than the other, as if it was "stuck" on the "bagel" setting. (There's no button for "toast", only "cancel," "bagel," "defrost," and "reheat".) Also seemed to take a very long time. The crumb trays are only accessible from the back of the toaster, which I find very inconvenient. Looks pretty, but is pretty useless for my needs.

I bought this toaster twice from Costco. I took the first one back because I had trouble making it start. The lever would not stay down unless I pushed real hard and probably to the side. The second one was a little better but I kept it because it was hard to find a 4 slice toaster. I've had it for over a year and it's hard to predict how the toast will come out, barely toasted or overtoasted especially the second time the side is used. The push down handle plastic broke trying to make it stay down so now I have to use a utensil to get it started but it isn't easy as it's always been touchy to make it start. Plus, it takes quite while to toast a slice of bread and most of the time only one side is toasted and the other side partly done. It's hard to believe they can't make a toaster work right after all these years of being made.

This darn toaster does make good toast, but the mechanics are more than a little anoying. We have had this toaster for a little over two years now and it still makes great toast. But, as many other reviews attest to, it is more than a little slow, has a very loud and annoying beeping sound when toast is done and has a very poor design for the levers that you use to put the toast down. In the two years we have owned this I have replaced both of the levers and both sides now require that they are locked down with our toast tongs to stay in place.

PROS: Makes good toast
Bagel function works well
You know when your toast is done
Toasts evenly
Gives you plenty of time to cook your omelettes

CONS: Makes good toast - makes me hesitant to try another toaster
REALLY LOUD annoying beep when toast is done - but you do know when it's done
Very slow - but this can easily be worked around, just start toast before cooking eggs etc.
Bad design for levers, they break easily and then have problems staying locked down
Expensive for the number of problems

I would have already replaced this thing but it is fun to make fun of, it still works and the reviews for most toasters are even more abismal anyway. I will probably have to replace it soon though as the humor factor is wearing thin with my darling wife.
