Product Description

The KitchenAid 4 Slice Metal Toaster is an attractive and durable addition to any kitchen. Toast the thickest bagels and English muffins perfectly using the industry's most advanced bagel toasting function. Baker's Bagel¿ Toasting gently browns the bottom of the bagel while toasting the sides that are sliced. One-touch button automatically sets toaster for warm function to warm previously toasted items without additional browning. The easy to use dial knob with detented stops controls toasting levels with precision ¿ turn the dial knob clockwise for darker toast, counterclockwise for lighter. Precice toasting with the Even-Heat¿ System. Extra-thick mica boards hold the heavy gauge heating elements flat, for even browning. A heat sensor ensures consistent toasting slice after slice. Extra-wide slots handle the thickest bagels, breads, and pastries easily. A gentle lift on the side Easy Lift¿ lever will cancel toasting and raise the toast. Thick or thin breads are centered perfectly on self-centering bread racks for even toasting. Metal construction for added durability and style. Heat shields inside the toaster help keep the Cool Reach¿ exterior steel side panels cooler. Features a steel interior which offers the ultimate in durability and adds consistency to toasting. Extra-deep toasting cavity helps ensure even browning. Full-width, rugged steel crumb tray removes easily and is dishwasher-safe. Under base cord wrap keeps counter neat. At first glance the price kept me away from this toaster. Being a Kitchen Aid Nut kept bringing me back. The five star rating isn't unusual for Kitchen Aid Products. The moment my wife saw the order(ed) form, she nearly passed out. She fussed for a few days,(the one hundred dollars for a toaster was unheard of) even AFTER testing the toaster for a few times. Now that her blood pressure is about normal (food usually tastes better when our body is functioning normally) she agrees that the toaster is worth the money. WOW!!! THAT in itself is a story worthy of the evening news! The toaster is great, the variation of settings is wonderful and the quality is, of course, Kitchen Aid. English muffins are the best ever!!!
Try one for yourself, you'll like it and may even be proud of yourself. It truly is worth the money.

Great Toaster April 2, 2007

I always thought a toaster is a toaster. However, this toaster is solid. It makes perfect toast every time. The one thing I like about it is that it does not have a dip in the top where bread crumbs can collect. My last toaster had that and it was hard to clean. This one cleans in a snap. I have bought all new Kitchen Aid products for my kitchen and I am happy so far with all of them.

A Toaster For The Ages January 24, 2008
I bought this toaster when our toaster oven burst into flames - a clear indicator we needed a new one. After evaluating whether we really needed an oven, we decided to go with a toaster. I did quite a bit of research on toasters and came to the conclusion that this one was in the right price range for the quality and feature set we were looking for. We ordered it from Amazon right before Christmas and it was delivered in time to toast our english muffins on Christmas morning.

Controls:
I thought the controls were pretty self explanitory but my wife and children required a bit of tutorial on the bagle setting and how it worked. Once explained, they got it and used it to their delight. Getting them to adjust the controls their personal setting took a bit. One setting does not fit everyone and you have to remember to set it to your personal setting unless you want your bread item toasted like the last person to use the toaster.

Quality of Contruction:
This toaster has a solid feel to it. So far nothing has fallen off, loosened, or given indication it will burst into flames anytime soon. That's a plus over my last toaster oven.

Quality of Output:
Toast, english muffins, and bagles come out great once you figure out the setting for your personal taste in color and toastiness. Breads with higher moisture content seem to take a bit longer to toast, but the results have been worth the wait. The rye bread I toast comes out faster than it did when I used my old toaster oven and the color is more even and consistent.

Slot Width and Length:
I would have liked to have had a longer slot for the rye bread I typically tast, but I soon learned that cutting the bread in half works just as well. The halves come out toasted the same. If I want two full slices of bread, I simply cut them in half and toast using all four slots. With the settings the same on each slot pair, I have gotten four pieces of toast with identical results on color and crispness.

Crumb Catcher:
The crumb tray is easy to remove and put back into place. I wish it was more conveniently located in the front instead of the back, but turning this toaster is not that much of an inconvenience. Putting it in the front would have possibly ruined the sleek lines of the design.

Cable Minder:
The power cord can be wound underneath to take up the amount of cord not needed. Simple and efficient design.

Cool To The Touch:
It is as advertised. My old flaming toaster oven was so hot you had to be very careful not to burn yourself or set things on fire if they were too near it. This one stays cool as a cuke.

Color Matches:
The Empire Red color matches our KitchenAid mixer perfectly (as one would hope) and our other counter top appliances of that stated color from other vendors.

I highly recommend this product for those who need a toaster over a toaster oven. We rarely miss our toaster oven except when wanting to quickly warm something up that might drip into the toaster (sticky buns, chicken patty, etc).

So far, so good with one negative.
The toaster is solidly built. I use the "bagel" feature much more than I thought. I can toast buns, English muffins, and bagels without scorching the bottom. Read more
