This Coated Spiral Dough Hook mixes and kneads yeast dough, saving both time and effort of hand-kneading.

Customer Reviews

Despite that, it fit perfectly and works like a charm.
Joan
I find that the dough mixes better when I make bread, and the kneading is much better.
Amazon Customer
My kids lost my last dough hook and I needed another fast.

I love making different kinds of breads, wet doughs and stiff doughs. My old kitchen aid had the "C" style hook and I did not like the way it kneaded bread dough. I purchased the new 5qt spiral and the dough does not climb up the hook!! Chaazam! I think it's meant for the newer 5qt "profesional" mixer but it works quite well on the old one. I did notice the mixer does get HOT because it's working the dough so well. I dont put as much dough in the bowl anymore. So far I've saved from buying a new mixer, so let's see how much longer this 10yo one lasts! Good Luck.

This is a wonderful dough hook. I have a Kitchen aid KSM5 5 qt bowl lift Mixer. I ordered this hook for the 5 qt mixers. The literature that came with it did not list this part for my mixer. But --Happily I tried it, & it fits! It is a great improvement over the older style dough hook. The dough needs quicker & more thoroughly. I highly recommend it for anyone who makes yeast dough.

What's in a model number, it turns out quite a bit. I ordered this spiral dough hook model "KNS256CDH". I discovered that the "6" in the model number does make a difference as this hook is specifically designed only for certain Kitchenaid wide bowl models (KP26M, KV25, KJ26, and KB26 ) with the bowl lift feature. It is important to note that Kitchenaid also makes another spiral dough hook model "KNS25CDH" (not offered on Amazon) that is specifically manufactured for Kitchenaid "Professional HD" models with the bowl lift feature, models beginning with KG25, and including the Professional HD model I purchased from Costco a few years ago.

Comparing the two hooks it appears that this model available on Amazon is slightly larger than the KNS25CDH hook and therefore if it is used on the narrow bowl models (it will fit) however the clearances are smaller and thus I assume the technical strain on the motor is slightly higher. That is the bad news.

The good news is that this spiral dough hook WILL work with narrow 5Q bowl models in the sense that it does "fit" and will not strike the bowl. Some reviewers appear to indicate that it actually does a more efficient job of kneading the dough. Others have indicated that they have successfully used this hook with KSM5 and other older models. This spiral hook model does contain a warning not to use the hook at speeds other than "2". I assume this will help address the motor burn out discussed in other reviews.

If there is a lesson it is that even though my Kitchenaid bowl lift stand mixer model KG25 came with a spiral dough hook this is not the EXACT spiral hook model originally provided by Kitchenaid with my unit.

I have been unhappy for years, decades about the Kitchenaid dough hook. I am a baker by profession and have complained and complained that the standard Kitchenaid dough hook is unsuitable for wet doughs. This simple redesign is just what I wanted. My bread doughs are mixed more quickly and don't overheat and most important, the dough, even wet dough, does not ride up the hook nearly as much as it always did. I recommend it.

I make a lot of bread, some of which i knead by hand and some of which i put through my kitchenaid. This spiral dough hook performs worlds above the standard "C" hook - i don't know how i did without it for so long! It kneads bread very quickly, incorporating air properly and developing the gluten. Has greatly improved the texture of my machine-kneaded doughs.

When using this hook, be VERY careful not to over-develop your dough, as it is much more efficient than the "C" hook.

This is un-useable with the 4.5 Qt. bowl. this was not stated when i ordered it. it should be noted that it only works with 5 Qt, bowl so other will not make the same mistake i did.

Even though this dough hook is not recommended for the K5SS it works great. It works so good that there is no need to upgrade to the KA 600 Pro (KP26M). Buy this dough hook instead. The K5SS is quitter and will not burn out like the KA 600 Pro. On the K5SS the spiral dough hook comes within 0.27" of the bowl. So don't try to beat the hook and slide your finger down the bowl to wipe dough off while the hook is moving unless your finger is less than 1/4" diameter. The conventional C-hook that comes with the K5SS has a clearance of about 0.95" from the bowl, more than three times the clearance than spiral hook. With the tighter hook to bowl tolerance you may need to back off on the speed. On the KA 600 Pro they put a sticker on the hook that tells you to use the hook at speed #2 only.

I inherited my old KitchenAid/Hobart K5-SS. The original C-shaped dough hook doesn't clean the bowl well and bread doughs tend to climb up the shaft hook. I read up on the spiral hook and ordered it. It fits, cleans and mixes much more thoroughly and the dough doesn't climb. I know this old model isn't rated to use the spiral hook - but it works well and I expect with careful use it will do. And if not, the web has a number of repair sites for this and other models.
