With a 525-watt motor to handle bread doughs and thick cookie batters, this is KitchenAid's most powerful stand mixer, a professional-grade appliance with a heavy, rugged, all-metal construction (31.7 pounds) which prevents "counter walk" on the mixer's rubber feet. It has a 6-quart, polished stainless-steel bowl with an ergonomic handle and a two-piece pouring shield made of heavyweight plastic to provide a large chute for adding ingredients. Accompanying the mixer are a burnished flat beater, a burnished dough hook, and a big wire whip. On the front of the powerhead is a hinged cover for the hub to which KitchenAid's many mixer accessories attach.

This mixer's great features abound. An electronic sensor ensures mixing action remains at the speed selected from among the 10 available--even when the going gets tough. Mixing begins softly to prevent splatters and "flour puff." With the beater moving clockwise and the shaft moving counterclockwise there's no need to rotate the bowl for the beater to reach all ingredients. The bowl-lift lever functions easily. A ventilation system cools the entire mixer to prolong motor life, and a resettable overload-protection system prevents overheating. The mixer measures 11-3/8 inches wide, 16-1/2 inches high, and 14-5/8 inches deep. KitchenAid says the first year of the mixer's lifetime warranty against defects is "hassle-free," with a replacement shipped at no cost and without question if a defect is detected. --Fred Brack

Yes, it has a stationary head - that's easy enough to get used to. We've been making dozens of batches of Xmas cookies with our machine and haven't found any need to scrape down the sides any more than you'd expect (although I did find that it mixed better on higher speeds and required less scraping at those levels). Mine is a "jadite green" model rather than the dark green usually available, but we love it so much that I needed to write a nice review about it. :) This will be our mixer for years to come - I don't expect to need to replace it.

I love my mixer. I used to work in a professional kitchen and they had an industrial size Kitchen Aid mixer. I learned to love this brand then. After buying this 6-quart mixer, I have used it at least once a week or more for various purposes. This is my first stand mixer in my home and I love it. The only thing I wish is I could put the 3 beater attachments in the dishwasher. They have to be hand washed and dried because of the metal they are made of. I think the smaller stand mixer can have the attachments in the dishwasher because they are made of plastic. The bowl can go in the dishwasher. Small inconvience for a wonderful product.

I love this mixer so much. I have a big family who has lots of friends and this mixer can really handle the big jobs! I use the dough maker attachment to blend my hamburg for burgers and meatloaf. It's blending while I'm making something else. You do need to scrape the sides frequently. And it is so big that you still really need a small mixer to beat low volume items, like egg whites. It is relatively quiet for such a big machine. I can't wait to get some attachments for it, like the grinder and juicer. You can buy this one with confidence!
